Screenshot of webfont not getting loaded for edit field on Wikisource

While creating books on Wikisource, webfont is not loading inside the edit
field even after changing language to Odia (language code: or) and enabling
webfont download. It is loading in the interface with proper rendering. This
has been tested on Windows XP service pack 2 for Firefox 31. I tried to clear
cache and re-opened Wikisource and the problem persists. The same problem
exists for other computers with the same version of Windows and Firefox.

tools expanding to 3 rows unnessarily.

tools should wrap to 2 rows rather than 3 or lower importance tools should
collapse into dropdown to retain all tools on a single row.

The path to the file
(d:\MediawikiTestwiki_Images/f/f0/0003_1110_Technische_Dokumentation.pdf) is
correct, but there is no entry within the thumb-part
(d:\MediawikiTestwiki_Images/thumb) for some files. 

I think those files that are small in height & width don't have a thumb file.
And my 0003_1110_Technische_Dokumentation.pdf is recognised as 0x0 px, what you
can see on its page. Thus it does not have a thumbnail file too (but it should
have one). Thumbnails are only created when "necessary" [2].

LocalSettings section:

and we use img_auth here [1] wich works generally.

Updating the base image available on my laptop seems to fix this issue:

$ vagrant box add -f --name trusty-cloud
https://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/vagrant/trusty/current/trusty-server-cloudimg-amd64-vagrant-disk1.box

Vagrant provides a command to do this update more gracefully (`vagrant box
update`) but it seems to not work with the unversioned base image that we
specify in our Vagrantfile.

Reviewed most of the code, except the javascript. The first issue to deal with
is the repetition of code from core. An option that I suggested is to extend
SpecialRecentChanges, like SpecialRecentChangesLinked does. A minor refactoring
in core would be needed. Details:

- The parent's buildMainQueryConds() could be used.
- For makeOptionsLink() the additional parameters could be added to $options
and call parent::makeOptionsLink().
- I *think* the parent's doMainQuery() could also be used. The additional
conditions could be added before calling. (It looks like the query options end
up being essentially the same. There's some extra stuff in the parent method,
not sure if any of it would be harmful.)
- In theory, the differences in optionsPanel() could be handled by
getExtraOptions() and a minor change in core. In getExtraOptions() the
namespace control could be fetched from the parent's namespaceFilterForm(). The
refactoring in core could let subclasses of SpecialRecentChanges control the
options that are displayed as links below where you select the number of
changes/age in days.
- The remaining method with repetition, outputChangesList(), is substantially
different from SpecialRecentChanges in many ways, so the repetition of
scattered fragments there is basically fine, I think. Just mentioning it in an
inline comment would be enough.

Regarding this point, Nischay pointed out that SpecialRecentChanges was not
designed to be inherited, and that instead a generic base class should be
created. I think that's reasonable, so there's another minor refactoring in
core that could be considered. In any case, I'm hoping to get more feedback on
this; that's why I'm taking the discussion out of the e-mail exchanges. (I
don't see any other good place for it; if anyone has a better suggestion,
please let me know. :) )

I'm posting my other specific comments here, since it also seems like the best
place for them. (Line numbers reference commit 1f0640.)

- When a user enrolls in a course, they still see the old version of the
activity feed.
- Did you consider taking into account course start and end dates?
- SpecialRecentActivityFeed line 49: the $listed parameter should be set to
false? It doesn't seem to do much (?) but we should be consistent...
- I know it's common practice in Mediawiki, but I don't really like leaking
database column names further afield than necessary. So maybe instead of having
to send in a DB column like 'rc_user' in setAdditionalConds(), the class could
have a way of taking a list of users? I think that would make for a cleaner
internal API.
- SpecialRecentActivityFeed line 289: maybe put the check for 0 rows sooner?
- SpecialRecentActivityFeed line 301: instead of adding the module here, can
you use addModules()?
- Maybe $this->defaultParams could have a better name? Maybe something like
additionalUrlParams? Also, the setter setParams() should have exactly the same
name as the variable.
- SpecialRecentActivityFeed lines 358-362: unused local variables.
- Remaining style issues (it's OK to leave these 'till last): consistent
spacing between methods, @see annotation for overriding methods, explicit
method visibility level and, ideally, more inline comments explaining how
things work.

We currently use jQuery to pluck out the reference link and text for the
reference drawer on mobile by grabbing the clicked link, appending the href to
a css selector looking for daughter elements of the reference list and
displaying the text of that link.

The href itself is determined (for named references) by an arbitrary string
given as by the user. Crucially, the visual editor will insert placeholder
named references (e.g. ":0", ":1") if you select "re-use" among the citation
options for a reference which does not already have a name.

If the selector string contains unescaped special characters it will likely
fail, getReference will return undefined and the text field will be blank. The
colon (':') is *automatically* inserted by the visual editor for reused
references and will break the CSS selector and cause the reference drawer to
appear blank.

Steps to reproduce:

1. on a page with a reference list, make a named reference abcd
2. Save the page and (in mobile) tap on the reference.
3. The reference drawer will be blank

How to fix:

Sanitize the input field. Right now we escape '.' but nothing else. A user
could insert any of the special characters in a name (see here for some info
https://mathiasbynens.be/notes/css-escapes) so we should eventually have a
solution which covers all of them but the visual editor inserts ':' likely
without the knowledge of the user so that's the critical one.

Regardless, if you shrink the window about 30% smaller while the browser test
is running, you can see in the "I click the Lock topic button" step where
Chrome scrolls that element into view, but Firefox doesn't.  I built a simpler
test test which assumes the first topic on Talk:Flow_QA is an unmoderated
topic:

Special:Contributions with wgUseMediaWikiUIEverywhere = true

When wgUseMediaWikiUIEverywhere is true, the Contributions special page doesn't
have correct margins between different form elements.  This is most noticeable
between "Only show edits that are latest revisions", and the checkbox to its
right, which corresponds to "Only show edits that are page creations"

It seems that CirrusSearch (as of the version deployed on English Wikipedia)
has a problem with byte counts. I assume they should reflect the wiki text size
shown in the history page, but CirrusSearch reports sizes consistently smaller
than that.

You can use the hook 'SkinMinervaDefaultModules'

Inside the hook you can replace the editing module with your own module.

e.g.

$modules['editor'] = array( 'mycustomeditor' )

So it turns out this patch is basically useless because iw_api is barely
populated anywhere. The MW installer doesn't do it (bug 46992), and WMF sites
don't do it (maybe we should file a bug for this). Clever past-me filled the
value for 'wikipedia' on my own install (which I what I had been testing
against) and left it at that.

Actually, it's MediaWiki with the issue.  As reported, GET and HEAD requests
should never change state.

Per http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec9.html#sec9.1.1 :

"In particular, the convention has been established that the GET and HEAD
methods SHOULD NOT have the significance of taking an action other than
retrieval. These methods ought to be considered "safe"."

I don't know whether we want to fix this for existing features (however, it
*can* be done in such a way as users with JS see exactly the same user
experience and it still works with no-JS, albeit with an extra step).

However, no new GET or HEAD methods that take actions should be introduced. 
Recently developed features, such as Thanks, show how to follow this guideline
in practice (uses AJAX with the API requiring POST and a token, with a no-JS
fallback that has a nice interface and uses POST, i.e.

I'm well aware that the drop-down menu says "Original file ", but
it's clearly having issues (I'll file further bug reports) and the HTML markup
makes it clear that the small option has been selected by the user.
