Sorry to reopen this again, but the font is not loading anymore. Thus we are
requesting the font to be available again in Javanese projects

[Bug 71653] New: Hovercards: Popups to Disambiguation pages should show a standard message

2014-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 71653

a standard message
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal

Usually a disambiguation page starts with " may refer to:" with nothing
useful to the context.

Popup should display just "Disambiguation page" (maybe in capitals?) making it
easy to spot links to disambigs and making a call to fix the link.

[Bug 59849] VisualEditor: Cutting (removing) last sections on page, and then pasting them back in, results in increased indentation in Chrome

2014-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59849

I'm convinced that most editors don't know this. I only learned this a couple
of years ago, when talking to someone with WikiProject Accessibility.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Glossary is only used 101 times, which
is almost nothing for the English Wikipedia. I don't believe that I've ever
seen a list using it. The normal way to make a definition list is:

;Term
:Definition

or, alternatively:

;Term: Definition

See [[Disease]] for one of several examples I could name off the top of my
head. Both formats produce the same end result.

VisualEditor does not support definition lists at all at this time. Support is
planned (see bug 37938), but it may be a while. Whenever that happens, this
problem should (hopefully) be resolved.

The best 'quick' way to do this is move the test into a new class, and then in
setUpClass skip the tests if there are not sufficient suitable recentchanges /
newpages for the test to run against the live wiki.

[Bug 71648] Some French characters break the Lyrics.wikia.com API

>
> Cheers

Its treating the ô character as if it was iso 8859-1 and converting to UTF-8,
however the text is already UTF-8 so in essence its double encoding ( %C3 is
how you say à in UTF-8, where %C383 is how you say à in UTF-8. Similarly %B4 is
how you say ´ in ISO 8859-1, but %C2%B4 is how you say ´ in UTF-8. Thus if the
API module thinks %C3%B4 is in ISO 8859-1, then it will convert it to
%C3%83%C2%B4)

Anyways, not a problem with the MediaWiki API. You need to file a bug with
Wikia.

[Bug 71200] Support redirects in JavaScriptContent

 CC||jackmcbarn+w...@gmail.com,

--- Comment #3 from Kunal Mehta (Legoktm) ---
Current patch only creates "redirects" behind, but MW doesn't actually
recognize these as redirects. This means people without "delete" can't revert
moves (if they move their own common.js or something) since the pages aren't
recognized as redirects.

Also if a wiki changes their domain, there is no easy way to find "redirects"
that need updating without doing a full text search (usually difficult) or just
going through logs (not perfect).

My proposal is that we make these real MW redirects.

We can't just turn any mw.loader.load("url...") into a redirect since people
might have common.js's with just one script being loaded.

A magic syntax like /* #REDIRECT */mw.loader.load("url..."); is what I'm
thinking of. "#REDIRECT" will be hardcoded and English only and must be in that
exact format with spaces and whatnot.

Thoughts?

jQuery 1.8.3 is old. How long to you want it to stay there?

Version 2 is a bit faster since it no more supports old IE versions.

But I guess MW wants to support old IE for the next 50 years so users will
never see a reason to use a proper browser.

Example:

should return these lyrics:
http://lyrics.wikia.com/MC_Solaar:J%27Connais_Mon_R%C3%B4le

..But it doesn't. Because the API returns a link to
http://lyrics.wikia.com/MC_Solaar:J%27Connais_Mon_R%C3%83%C2%B4le, my guess is
that the "ô" character is at some point converted to "%C3%83%C2%B4" instead of
"%C3%B4".

$ git clone https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/mediawiki/vagrant

$ git submodule update --init --recursive

Maybe if the initial checkout would have been done with

it would work?

InlineMenuWidget is just one of the wrappers for MenuWidget (the other is
ComboBoxWidget) and not a MenuWidget itself, so it kind of makes sense for it
to have a different interface (even if it is surprising at first).

Do you think we should duplicate the public API of MenuWidget on
InlineMenuWidget (including re-emitting events)? We'd probably want to do the
same for ComboBoxWidget if yes (I think there is value in keeping their
interfaces similar). I'm not entirely sure if we should do this, though.

Or perhaps we should just rename InlineMenuWidget to DropdownWidget or
something to avoid name confusion?

[Bug 71645] New: php5 session cleanup script can go nuts

2014-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71645

Bug ID: 71645
Summary: php5 session cleanup script can go nuts
   Product: MediaWiki-Vagrant
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: General
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: bda...@wikimedia.org
CC: dduv...@wikimedia.org, o...@wikimedia.org,
yuvipa...@gmail.com
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

I think I may have tracked down a cause of Trusty VMs (and labs instances)
occasionally locking up.

The php5 package shipped with Ubuntu 14.04 includes a cron job to cleanup stale
session files stored on disk. A similar cron job has been present in previous
versions of Ubuntu, but the version shipped with 14.04 attempts to fix a long
standing bug by scanning for sessions in
active use before purging. To do this, the upstream maintainer decided that
running `/usr/bin/lsof -w -l +d "/var/lib/php5"` would be a great way to find
out if any processes had session files open. As pointed out in an upstream bug
report lsof can
have a highly variable runtime cost depending on the processes running at the
time it is invoked. I have now several times caught multiple versions of the
/usr/lib/php5/sessionclean script running on my VM. Since this script is only
invoked at :09 and :39 of each hour by cron, if multiple instances are seen
this implies that the older version has been running for at least 30 minutes.

The Ubuntu 12.04 version of the cleanup script was inlined in /etc/cron.d/php5:

  [ -x /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime ] && [ -d /var/lib/php5 ] && find
/var/lib/php5/ -depth -mindepth 1 -maxdepth 1 -type f -cmin
+$(/usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime) ! -execdir fuser -s {} 2>/dev/null \; -delete

The proposed fix in the upstream Debian package is at
. This
fix is not currently scheduled for backporting to Ubuntu 14.04.

I think we should either, 1) revert the cron job to the 12.04 version, 2)
backport the Debian fix as part of our Puppet configuration, or 3) remove the
clean up job entirely as part of our Puppet configuration.

Since we do not currently set $wgSessionsInObjectCache, we are actively using
files to store php sessions. I think this implies that option 3 would be less
than optimal.

PopupWidget needs to have its body positioned absolutely and anchor relatively
to it, and not vice versa. Doing it the way we do now causes problems with
measuring elements and scrolling them into view (bug 71540).

However, we currently depend on positioning popups that are used as part of
other widgets with just CSS, which probably won't work with this.

I cannot reproduce this with the current version of the article, which has
similar content.

When trying to edit the old version of the article I get a strange result: I
don't see the external links in the reference editor at all.

[Bug 66537] The MW_MATH_MATHML mode should expose the MathML to accessible tools

2014-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66537

I wonder whether we want to try something like

https://github.com/Khan/KaTeX/issues/38#issuecomment-55802898

instead of the current "display: none;" on the element. That's similar
to what Chris Fleizach suggested to me by mail in the past. That would give a
chance to tools based on the native WebKit accessibility tree (e.g. VoiceOver)
to read the math. And the "aria-hidden" on the SVG fallback will still be
important for DOM-based tools, I guess.

[Bug 59849] VisualEditor: Cutting (removing) last sections on page, and then pasting them back in, results in increased indentation in Chrome

2014-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59849

> TLDR: The colon does *not* actually mean "indent".

Ok, the colon does not mean indent. However, I have had an account on English
Wikipedia for seven years, have made 50,000 edits in that time (which must
include tens of thousands of colons) but this is the first I have heard of it.
We have a page (WP:INDENT) explaining how to use colons for indenting, MOS:MATH
requires it for display formulae, and WP:TALK suggests that it may be
disruptive to deliberately not use colons. On none of those pages is it
explained that, actually, colon does not really mean indent.

I am almost certain that the vast majority of editors do not know this. There
are probably hundreds of thousands of articles that use colons. It is simply
not going to be acceptable for VE to chew up articles because it does not
"like" the markup used by editors and established for many years. A less
disruptive way forward would be to make the colon actually mean indent.
Definition lists are usually achieved with templates. The few that are not are
going to be a much smaller number of pages that need fixing and can easily be
found by extracting a list of pages from the database with semicolons in lines
beginning with colons. A semi-automated bot could then go through them.

Strange. I wonder what happened. The other 2 were still there. Just re-did it.

[Bug 52162] VisualEditor: If VisualEditor is the primary editor, type=create and type=fulltext buttons should point to VE, not WT editor

2014-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52162

I don't want to make inputbox suddenly magically different. It's about ordinary
users (especially the new sort 'born' after VE deployment) who want to type a
new article's name, click on button and voila, start creating their article in
VE. In 2 steps, after 1 click, without experience like 'why the markups? oh,
I'm switching to VE'. They'd be more likely to give up in this case.

Technically, you may change the default 'action' with 'veaction' or create a
new parameter or sth else, it's up to you.

I just tried a QRpedia code for the article "M1 15". The article exists on SVWP
and ENWP. When i set my phone to German (as a test) and scanned the code, I
came to a page telling me the article was not avaliable in German, but
suggested I "read in one of the following languages:
- M1_15
- M1 15"

It is impossible to see what link leads to what language!

(And also, there shouldn't be an underscore on the first link).

The recently created wikimedia/iegreview repository does not allow JenkinsBot
to submit patches after it has verified them. I would additionally like
l10n-bot to be able to manage translation files so I can connect the project
with translatewiki.net. I believe that granting permissions similar to those
set for the Wikimania Scholarships project would be sufficient
.

[Bug 71621] Not loading site CSS on Special:UserLogin/Preferences breaks wkis which use it to create a skin/theme

2014-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71621

Many scripts/styles run on a site level; it does not make sense that they do
not work on two pages. CSS is used e.g. in Arabic Wikipedia to adjust general
font size and fix a bunch of directionality issues.
