It's not something > that > has been given much if any attention in the past year or so :( Thanks Roan - we decided to try the trunk version as the stable branch (r74799) has awful behaviour pasting formatted text from MS Word - it apepars in the edit window with all its formatting rather than as plain text as it should, but if you save the edits it obliterates all the page content except the first line only of what was pasted. I could report a separate bug for this but it seems to have been resolved in the more recent builds. Guess we'll revert back to the stable branch version as we'd identified workarounds for the bug by pasting from word into notepad, then pasting that plain text into the wiki, or using a Word Add-in to save as MediaWiki format.
