https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32120 --- Comment #10 from wikichai...@gmail.com 2011-11-16 12:03:30 UTC --- (In reply to comment #9) Sanskrit uses 'M' for 'ं' (Anusvara), since you have not yet taken 'M' you may follow same. If its pronunciation closely matches with 'ng', I suggest 'nG'. Anyway avoid ''. Anusvara is now M/nG Sometimes within transliteration we will force for a ligature formation to support a common usage. When we want to break it, even without introducing ZWNJ in text, we can use '_', because of its visual 'look' that being part of a word that keeps two characters away from touching. We are using ZWNJ for same purpose technically for different situation(s). So '_' can be used for two mutually exclusive conditions. now ZWNJ = '_' and ZWJ = '__' Thanks, -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. 'Alt' combination will work only on Firefox. [Bug 32120] New Assamese Transliteration Scheme
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32120 --- Comment #7 from wikichai...@gmail.com 2011-11-11 18:01:19 UTC --- (In reply to comment #4) More recommendations: Can't we use any other key for 'ং' than ''? As '' normally occurs within text, so using it is not a good choice. what is used in hindi for 'anusvara? phonetically it makes the ng sound, which is already taken. Other languages, including Malayalam and Sanskrit use '_' for ZWNJ. So it is recommended to use the same. is there any technical reason to change it other than similarity with malayalam? Also it is advised to change 't~' = 'ৎ' and '^' = 'ঁ'. Assigning with some phonetically matchable combinations. 't~' = 'ৎ' is phonetic (ৎ makes t-hasanta sound). i shall go through the community response on 'ঁ' again or ask for more input. You can move this table to one of project page in your Assamese Wikipedia. Thus you can discuss on it thoroughly. the transliteration scheme has been discussed thoroughly on facebook, which seems to be the preferred community portal for now. we are trying to move to wikipedia resources, but the transition will take a while. thanks! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. Already applied. (In reply to comment #7) (In reply to comment #4) Can't we use any other key for 'ং' than ''? We are using ZWNJ for same purpose technically for different situation(s). So '_' can be used for two mutually exclusive conditions. I can't show such a situation in Assamese as I don't know it. To clarify I show an example in Malayalam: In Malayalam transliteration, typing 'n' will produce 'ൻ' and typing 'ma' will produce 'മ'. If we type them together 'nma' we expect 'ന്മ', not 'ൻമ', since, when we put 'ൻ' and 'മ' together they will not form a ligature, but here we are forcing for their ligature. To get 'ൻമ' we will type 'n_ma'. Hope it gives some hint. OK, we can keep 't~'. (In reply to comment #8) does 'ঁ' = 'N~' work? Current recommendation contains '\' and '\\' for '।' and '॥' respectively. Black slash will be used widely for escaping. Can you discuss it to change to something else, possibly to '.'
