[Wikidata] Re: [Wikimedia-l] Re: Toolhub 1.0 is launched! Discover software tools used at Wikimedia

2021-10-15 Thread Bodhisattwa Mandal
Hi Birgit *et al*,

Thank you all very much for the hub. It's nice to get the tools in one
place in a collaborative interface.

While adding tools into the hub, it would be great if there remains an
option to add the contributors of the tool in addition to the primary
developer. Also, is there any way to add info on existing tools?

[Wikidata] Re: [Wikimedia-l] Sign up for the Toolhub's quality signal sessions

Hi Shrishti,

Just one head's up regarding your Unconference session

about Toolhub feedback
 on
15.08.2021 at 6 pm UTC. The tables A and B on Floor 1 are two separate
tables on Remo and AFAIK, it would be virtually impossible to conduct the
same session with the same people simultaneously and parallelly using both
the two tables, unless you split your team between tables A and B. I guess
a design of the unconference floors will come very soon.

[Wikidata] Bodh: a new tool for for lexicographical data

2021-06-27 Thread Bodhisattwa Mandal
Hello all,

We are happy to announce that a new tool ,
named Bodh, has been developed by Jayprakash, as a
CIS-A2K assignment, to add or modify statements for lexemes, senses and
forms. This tool presents lexicographical data in tabular format generated
from SPARQL queries or from manual lists. Users can switch whether to work
on lexeme proper, sense or form and add or modify statements there.

The idea of this tool was inspired by the one and only Magnus Manske's
 Tabernacle
which helps editors to add or modify
statements, labels, descriptions and aliases for Wikidata's entity data.

The tool is going to be documented here
. Users of this tool can
request for more features or report for bugs using this phabricator project
profile .

Happy editing!

[Wikidata] Wikidata Eighth Birthday merchandise

2020-10-07 Thread Bodhisattwa Mandal
Hi everyone,

As you know, WikiProject India
 is celebrating
the 8th birthday of Wikidata
 this October
and on this occasion, CIS-A2K
will be sending *Wikidata special merchandise* to *all Indian affiliates*
and *communities* upon request as well as *active Wikidata contributors
residing in India*.

*Affiliates and Communities*

Please note,

   - *All Indian affiliates* are welcome to request for Wikidata special
merchandise and/or infrastructure. There is no need for community
notification. But, affiliate contacts or board members or executive
committee members or people in similar positions, who can represent the
affiliate, need to do the request.

   - *All Indian language communities*, except those who have geographical
affiliates, are welcome to request for Wikidata special merchandise
requests. But, the community should decide on-wiki and have clear consensus
to whom the merchandise will be sent.

   - Indian language communities having geographical affiliates are
requested to discuss any need with their respective affiliates first and
ask them to request them on their behalf.

   - Only *one request for each* affiliate or language community will be
   accepted.

   - It is expected that the requests for merchandise and/or infrastructure
should be practical enough to be used by community members and within the
budget of *maximum INR 10,000 for each affiliates*.

   - CIS-A2K will not design for the merchandise. If any custom design is
preferred, the affiliate or the community should upload it to Wikimedia
Commons as svg format and send the link to CIS-A2K, which will be taken
care of, while printing it. The design should be Wikidata specific only.

If this sounds interesting, please feel free to request here -
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Eighth_Birthday/India#Affiliates_and_Communities

*Active contributors*

   - CIS-A2K will *pro-actively send* different gifts or merchandise as
small token of appreciation for active Wikidata contributors from India.
Contributors *do not have to request* them.

   - Merchandise can be in the form of T-shirts or mementos or other
things. The budget allocated for each contributor is *INR 1,000*.

   - CIS-A2K will take care of the designing part.

Thanks Léa for the reply.

I totally agree with Yaroslav to limit the option to use the feature at
least at the autoconfirmed user level. Some community might even think best
to limit them at the level of reviewer or administrator or any other
trusted user rights. Will there be option to implement these limitations?

Re: [Wikidata] Wikidata Bridge v1 to be deployed on Catalan Wikipedia

2020-08-11 Thread Bodhisattwa Mandal
 Hello Léa,

Thanks for the update. I am thinking about starting a discussion to have
the Wikidata bridge feature for Wikidata driven infoboxes on Bengali
Wikisource. Let's see.

I have just one concern. The feature will bring more and more vandals, who
are active in those Wikipedia or other Wikimedia projects, directly to
Wikidata through this feature. How will the Wikidata community deal with
them effectively as the number of vandalism might increase manifold?

Bodhisattwa

Re: [Wikidata] [Wikimedia-l] Memorandum of Understanding with NDLI, CIS and WMF

2020-03-14 Thread Bodhisattwa Mandal
Hi Ilario,

If you check this link <https://ndl.iitkgp.ac.in/faq>, you can find it
written at the Terms and Conditions section - *The actual contents are
subject to the copyright laws of the respective data providers as the
authors or publishers retain copyright to these works which are used by NDL
India with permission.*

It is the practice for any government agency like NDLI to sign a MoU or
other form of contracts with other organizations, before engaging with them
in any way. Although I can't speak for NDLI, but it is extremely likely
that they have partnered with Worldebooklibrary and others officially.

Re: [Wikidata] [Wikisource-l] Memorandum of Understanding with NDLI, CIS and WMF

2020-03-14 Thread Bodhisattwa Mandal
Hi Nicolas,

Thanks for your reply and interest in the partnership.

It was discussed during the Delhi meeting that as a first step, NDLI will
come up with a unique authority control for the authors listed in their
website and we will match them with corresponding Wikidata items, thus
starting to link Wikidata content with NDLI website. The process was
expected to initiate from January, but due to some other other commitments
from NDLI as a government agency, it has not been started yet.

As a major part of this partnership will largely depend on the data model
stated in Wikidata WikiProject Books
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Books>, we need works
and their editions on different Wikisource projects properly linked with
Wikidata exactly following the data model. For Indian language Wikisources,
I can say, the linkages are still very low. It would be great, if we can
collaboratively engage as many as Wikisource communities as possible to
start linking their contents on Wikidata. We definitely need suggestions
and all kinds of help there organizing this.

We appreciate if highly experienced community members like you share inputs
and insight w.r.t. this collaboration. Please feel free to do so
pro-actively at any time.

Regards,
Bodhisattwa

[Wikidata] Memorandum of Understanding with NDLI, CIS and WMF

2020-03-14 Thread Bodhisattwa Mandal
Hi all,

It gives us immense pleasure to announce to the Wikimedia community
that National
Digital Library of India
 (NDLI),
Centre for Internet and Society (CIS) and Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) have
signed a tripartite non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a
2-years partnership. National Digital Library of India is a Ministry of
Human Resource Development

project, developed at IIT Kharagpur

which aims to build a virtual repository of learning resources and
literature metadata.

Through this understanding, we will work together on:

   - integrating Wikisource and Wikidata contents on NDLI website.

   - building up technical infrastructure on NDLI website to crowdsource
metadata curation on Wikidata and proofreading on Wikisource websites.
   - importing relevant contents and data from NDLI website to Wikidata and
   Wikisource.
   - identifying and pursuing collaboration opportunities around other
   Wikimedia projects, such as Wikibooks.

After months of discussion among the three parties, the understanding was
finalized during International Symposium on Knowledge Engineering for
Digital Library Design 2019, an international
conference organized collaboratively by NDLI and UNESCO at IIT Delhi
, where
WMF was a technical partner.

Many apologies for cross-posting the announcement in different relevant
mailing lists.

Re: [Wikidata] New data type: musical notation with Lilypond format

2019-03-15 Thread Bodhisattwa Mandal
Hi Nicolas,

Although it is not possible today, but hoping to see that day, when
Lilypond will include all kinds of notations. As a matter of fact, we are
stuck in that part in Bengali Wikisource, where there are books
<https://bn.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=%E0%A6%AC%E0%A6%BF%E0%A6%B6%E0%A7%87%E0%A6%B7:%E0%A6%85%E0%A6%A8%E0%A7%81%E0%A6%B8%E0%A6%A8%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%A7%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%A8=500=0=1=%E0%A6%A8%E0%A6%BF%E0%A6%B0%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%98%E0%A6%A3%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%9F%3A%E0%A6%B8%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%AC%E0%A6%B0%E0%A6%AC%E0%A6%BF%E0%A6%A4%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%A8={%22namespaces%22:[102]}>
on music using a musical notation from India called Akarmatrik Swaralipi. I
guess, this is true for many oriental music systems, which Lilypond has not
included till now.

Anyway, there can be different musical notations for a single music item.
For that reason, P518 can be a mandatory qualifier for this property, which
serves the purpose to distinguish the notations.

Regards,
Bodhisattwa

This is great!

Shouldn't the property be named ''modern musical notation'' to distinguish
it from other forms of musical notations from around the world?
