Lokal_Profil created this task. Lokal_Profil added a subscriber: Lokal_Profil. Lokal_Profil added projects: Wikidata, MediaWiki-extensions-WikibaseClient. Restricted Application added a subscriber: Aklapper. TASK DESCRIPTION If a filename/commonsMedia (and possibly other types) is added as a the value for a property but the initial letter is lower case then this is displayed as upper case in the interface but stored as lower case in the backend. Since the diff displays the value as shown, rather than as stored, the result is a diff which looks like it should have been a null edit. As an example this diff changes //fr-Japon.ogg// to //Fr-Japon.ogg// but the diff makes it look like a null edit. [Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T94539: BlazeGraph uses old xsd:dateTime standard
Jc3s5h added a comment. As far as I can tell Wikidata's statement to data contributors and users about the meaning of dates stored in Wikidata is at mw:Wikibase/DataModel/JSON. The [ earliest version] dated 29 April 2014 states time: Date and time in ISO notation. The 2004 version of ISO 8601 defined as 1 BCE, contrary to XSD 1.0. Furthermore, en:astronomical year numbering, which was probably the most common use of negative years before the late 20th century proliferation of computer standards, treats 0 as 1 BCE. I believe we must presume that most data contributors have not read all the code that implements Wikibase, and just believed the statements, and the general public understanding of what the year 0 is. More importantly, they would understand year (-n) to be equal to year (n+1) BCE. What would get stored in wikibase would depend on how it was entered; the user interface would have changed an input of 5 BC to -5, but using an API to enter -004-12-31T00:00:00Z (which the data contributor would have regarded as equal to 31 December 5 BC) as-is. **This means that every year = 1 AD in the database is suspect and must be reviewed for correctness**. Jc3s5h added a comment. In https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T94064#1296543, @daniel wrote: @mkroetzsch precise dates for prehistoric times may be useful for astronomical events. These could/should use a different calendar model though, such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_day (Q14267), see T59704: Support Julian Date (astronomy) https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T59704 To support dates of prehistoric astronomical events, the issue isn't whether to use the Julian day, the proleptic Julian calendar, or the proleptic Gregorian calendar. The issue is that the theories of motion of the Solar System, use time scales such as Terrestrial Time or Barycentric Coordinate Time. These time scales use seconds of equal length, very similar to the seconds produced by atomic clocks. But calendars conventionally count actual solar days. Because the rate of rotation of the Earth is steadily decreasing **January 3, 10,000 BC, Julian proleptic calendar modified to observe Terrestrial Time** would be approximately **January 1, 10,000, Julian proleptic calendar**. The actual rotation rate of the Earth is not well known enough to create a definitive conversion between calendar dates and Terrestrial Time (and other similar timescales) dates. So support of prehistoric astronomical events would require support for multiple time scales; one or more for actual observed solar days, and others where the length of a day is close to 86,400 atomic seconds. Smalyshev added a comment. @Multichill yes, it's in labs. I'll add the external URL soon (probably by tomorrow). This is based on Blazegraph http://blazegraph.com/. For the docs you can see https://github.com/wikimedia/wikidata-query-rdf/tree/master/docs. No clients so far, though it has REST API that you can query by sending it SPARQL. I'll make a simple GUI client (Blazegraph has GUI but it does much more than just querying so I don't want to expose it for external people because most of it would be useless for them). If you want, we can also make a short meeting pre-hackaton (say, thursday morning PDT) to make a quick walkthrough about the setup to whoever is interested. @Daniel: true, if you ask for no labels, no duplication happens. It can be a bit boring without labels though :) We can make the Q/P URLs links to wikidata of course but still it may be a bit dry. It's not hard to write label limits (see e.g. https://github.com/wikimedia/wikidata-query-rdf/blob/master/docs/sparql-query-examples.md#who-discovered-the-most-asteroids) but can be annoying and slows things down a bit. mkroetzsch added a comment. @Jc3s5h You are right that date conversion only makes sense in a certain range. I think the software should disallow day-precision dates in prehistoric eras (certainly everything before -1). There are no records that could possibly justify this precision, and the question of calendar conversion becomes moot. Do you think 4713BCE would be enough already, or do you think there could be a reason to find more complex algorithms to get calendar support that extends further to the past? The integration test should further verify that entity usages included via a template are tracked, and are updated when the template is changed (once T99510 is implemented). Once T99512 is implemented, the integration test should also verify that label usage is tracked for all languages the page has been rendered (and cached) in.
