I see the current patch puts this new data structure into `meta=siteinfo`.  I 
am wondering why there, instead of `meta=wikibase`.  Is `meta=wikibase` being 
deprecated?

IMO ideally this mapping should also be exposed on `Special:ListDatatypes` 
(e.g. mention that a 'URL' is stored using value type 'string') and then build 
an api query module to provide access all the information on `ListDatatypes`, 
including the help strings.  That would mean this new api dataset is aligned 
with an existing special page dataset, and the two should naturally grow 
together consistently.

Yeah but the rate increase we're looking at is actually in the htmlCacheUpdate 
job insertion rate, regardless of magnification due to 
pages-affected-per-update.  I'm surprised that we don't have any logs/data as 
to the source of those jobs.

I added it so I can look at the things related to this ticket in one graph 
(queue size, htmlCacheUpdate pop, htmlCacheUpdate insert/push, purge, scap). I 
looked at a few other stats related to Wikidata initiated purges. I found 
nothing more yet than what was already mentioned in this ticket. Found neither 
evidence for or against as opposed to my guess that these are Wikidata 
initiated purges. It seems we don't have stats for how many purges Wikidata 
creates, as similar to templates 1 edit can trigger 10 or more purges in 
rare cases with so many inclusions.

OK then, I would then suggest imaging a server in codfw, and once it is 
complete we can proceed to decommission one of the eqiad servers. Note also 
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T120714 with regard to disk space. I was 
waiting with reimaging of the servers because we'd need to reload the database 
anyway after Blazegraph 2.0 upgrade and implementing geospatial search, but if 
this happens before we need to set up codfw server the same way as we plan to 
do for eqiad one in the future.

The 'propblem' with IE 11 on Win 7 seems to be another issue. In IE 11 I can't 
edit or add any property of any item. So: editing / adding in wikidata on 
wmflabs doesn't work at all for me with IE 11 on Win 7.

I just looked into this very briefly and I see two cases where we do queries as 
listed above:

- On `LinksUpdateComplete` which should also be throttled to not overwhelm the 
infrastructure
- In `AddUsagesForPageJob`… maybe we should throttle that job in order to 
reduce concurrency.

Also we might (I don't actually know) be able to reduce the number or size of 
these writes by comparing data first and only updating what actually needs to 
be updated.

If we have lost a DC then we should not be doing maintenance on a node. 
Stability is key then. I'm used to running in an n+1 hardware layout where any 
of your DC's can fall over and the other(s) can take total traffic while 
running slightly hot. Then it doesn't really matter which one gets the traffic 
and your users are happy.

I looked into this a bit and did a few page moves myself, but couldn't 
reproduce this under regular conditions.

The issues laid out here can probably be addressed by fixing 
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T107722 as the issue that task addresses 
cause updates from Wikidata to sometimes not being applied to client wikis 
(Wikipedias etc.). Close as duplicate?

Changing the copy link location from the header 
(.wikibase-referenceview-header) to the body (.wikibase-referenceview) of the 
reference is ugly but restores functionality:

items, seen only from history of page (&action=history). When you check item 
you see there is no sitelink to them.

Yes for logged in users options and settings only work when babel is installed. 
I have no clue why this is the case ...

What are you aiming for with this question? What does "exist" mean? Exist in 
which context?

First fact is that anonymous users don't have user preferences. Our code falls 
back to use a cookie in this case.

Next fact is that only users with a Babel box can control which languages are 
shown in the terms list view. All other users (this includes all anonymous 
users as well as all logged in users that don't have a Babel box) get some 
additional languages picked by ULS. This (but only this) is a client-only 
feature.

When the Babel extension is installed users can control the set of languages. 
When Babel is missing they can't. This does not have anything to do with the 
question if the box is and can be expanded and collapsed.

As far as I can see the code introduced in 
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/183498/20/repo/Wikibase.hooks.php is a 
mistake.

Workaround: `mw.wikibase.getEntity()` always returns the target entity with the 
new id. So you can do:

  local id = ...
  local entity = mw.wikibase.getEntity(id)
  if id ~= entity.id then
  it's redirected
  end

The API only goes read only if more than half of the servers are lagged for 
more than 5s. That really should not happen unless there actually are too many 
writes.
I agree that it's ok for that to happen sometimes, but it shouldn't happen 
often.

To actually know how often this happens, I would like to get 
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/264595 merged and deployed, please review.

Maybe we should increase `APIMaxLagThreshold` to 7s or even 10s? In order to be 
able to make such choices, we might also want to log the lag times in case the 
API goes read only.
