[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Created] T147169: Make sure Wikibase dump maintenance scripts solely use the "dump" db group

2016-10-02 Thread hoo
hoo created this task.hoo added projects: MediaWiki-extensions-WikibaseRepository, Wikidata.Herald added a subscriber: Aklapper.
TASK DESCRIPTIONAs repeatedly requested, Wikibase should only connect to the dump database group in the (long running) dump scripts (repo/maintenance/dumpEntities.php, repo/maintenance/dumpJson.php and repo/maintenance/dumpRdf.php).

We have a few options to implement this:

Try to pass the db group (as string) to all classes that get database connections?
Create an own (static?) wrapper which we can use instead of wfGetDB (and wfGetLB/ the analog function on MediaWikiServices?)?
Propose a core patch to be able to change the default for $groups in LoadBalancer::getConnection.

I'm not sure about this… all options seem kind of dirty in their own way, except maybe the third, if properly thought through.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T147169EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: hooCc: Aklapper, Smalyshev, Lydia_Pintscher, jcrespo, aude, daniel, hoo, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, Mbch331___

Smalyshev added a comment.
If there's no conversion to SI units or no SI units, we shouldn't use P2370. We should use P2442 instead. SI is well-defined system and we should only use SI properties to signify SI units. But we do plan to support other units, just a bit later after we see how the system fares with SI ones.

For dates, I'm not sure we should use these - dates are entirely different can of worms which usually don't play by the rules the other measure play. Please distinguish between

a) normalization applied by the API, when receiving a JASON structure representing a sting value.
b) normalization applied by the API when parsing user input, and returning a string value
c) normalization applied by the _javascript_ widget before sending user input to the API

I believe we should do (b), but not (a). We can also do (c), but with (b) in place, this seems redundant.

The reason I believe we should not do (a) is that we are not dealing with user input then, but with a DataValue object. DataValue objects are either valid or they are not, we should not guess intent. Clients that supply DataValues should take care to apply any normalization they desire.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T147037EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: danielCc: Esc3300, Aklapper, ChristianKl, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

I fear I'm not understanding what you exactly mean.

Anyway, for clarification, the idea is to warn the user that he/she is introducing a redundant statement so that he/she can make one of the following decisions:

simply doing nothing and not adding that new statement because the old one is more specific,
adding the new statement (which is more specific) and removing the old one (which is more general),
fixing the statements using subclass-of in the items and , which have wrong values.

somewhat odd that you'd revert the initial statement on an item stating that it's redundant. It might be that you are not aware how statements are added.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T147140EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: Esc3300Cc: Esc3300, abian, Aklapper, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Created] T147143: Special:NewItem created multiple items with the same sitelink

2016-10-02 Thread Nikki
Nikki created this task.Nikki added a project: Wikidata.Herald added a subscriber: Aklapper.
TASK DESCRIPTIONI just created an item with a sitelink. When I tried to add statements to the item, I got an error saying that the sitelink was already in use by another item (not that I was trying to change any sitelinks). It seems that when I tried to create a new item, two items with the same sitelink were created.

The items are https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q27067644 and https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q27067645

I started with https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:NewItem?site=hakwiki&page=%E5%88%86%E9%A1%9E%3A%E9%81%93%E6%95%99&lang=hak&label=%E5%88%86%E9%A1%9E%3A%E9%81%93%E6%95%99
As far as I remember, I clicked in one of the input fields and pressed enter to submit the form.

I've come across items with the same sitelink created by other people before as well.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T147143EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: NikkiCc: Nikki, Aklapper, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Created] T147140: Warn users when trying to add redundant statements using instance-of/subclass-of in Wikidata

2016-10-02 Thread abian
abian created this task.abian added a project: Wikidata.Herald added a subscriber: Aklapper.
TASK DESCRIPTION(1) It's considered that a statement P31 (instance of) is redundant with a statement P31 (instance of) if there's a statement P279* (subclass of, recursively) .

Example of SPARQL query that lists QAs for a particular case of (1) where QB = Q12280 (bridge): https://query.wikidata.org/#SELECT%20DISTINCT%20%3FQA%20%3FQALabel%20WHERE%20%7B%0A%20%20%3FQA%20wdt%3AP31%20wd%3AQ12280.%0A%20%20%3FQA%20wdt%3AP31%20%3FQC.%0A%20%20%3FQC%20wdt%3AP279%2a%20wd%3AQ12280.%0A%20%20FILTER%20%28%3FQC%20%21%3D%20wd%3AQ12280%29.%0A%20%20SERVICE%20wikibase%3Alabel%20%7B%20bd%3AserviceParam%20wikibase%3Alanguage%20%22en%2Ces%22.%20%7D%0A%7D

(2) It's considered that a statement P279 (subclass of) is redundant with a statement P279 (subclass of) if there's a statement P279* (subclass of, recursively) .

Note that (2) could also be applied to other properties like P131 (located in the administrative territorial entity).

These redundant statements are usually added by all kinds of users (sometimes, using automated tools and, sometimes, not using them) who aren't aware of being adding redundant statements or who aren't aware that redundant statements should be avoided.

TASK DESCRIPTIONThe graphite check for wikidata query service is regularly alerting since Saturday October 1st. Some investigation have already happened on T146576, but this seems to be a different issue. The slowdown of wdqs seem to be correlated with specific traffic and leads to 504 errors.
