[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Created] T149281: Fix Governor's demo - party affiliations

2016-10-26 Thread Yurik
Yurik created this task.Yurik added projects: Maps, Interactive-Sprint, Easy, Wikidata-Query-Service.Herald added subscribers: TerraCodes, Aklapper.Herald added projects: Wikidata, Discovery.
TASK DESCRIPTIONPlease fix https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:Kartographer - governor's demo. The SPARQL query gets "party" (if multiple, gets any one), and compares it with Democrat and Republican Qid. The "getting any" behavior is non-deterministic, and sometimes I see Mark Dayton as either Democrat or independent.

Please change it to explicitly check if entry has Democrat/Republic party link (without end date), and if either both are false or both are true, treat it as independent (or an error?).TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T149281EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: Smalyshev, YurikCc: Aklapper, TerraCodes, Yurik, mschwarzer, Avner, debt, Gehel, JGirault, D3r1ck01, Jonas, phabyogi, FloNight, Xmlizer, MuhammadShuaib, Susannaanas, Izno, lxbarth, jkroll, Planemad, Smalyshev, Wikidata-bugs, Jdouglas, aude, Deskana, Manybubbles, MaxSem, Mbch331, Jay8g___

2016-10-26 Thread daniel
daniel created this task.daniel added projects: MediaWiki-extensions-WikibaseRepository, Wikidata, WMDE-TLA-Team.Herald added a subscriber: Aklapper.
TASK DESCRIPTIONWhen an entity on another repo is referenced by using a non-local EntityId in an EntityIdValue (or using a property defined on another repo in a statement), we should track this via the usage tracking mechanism we are already using on the client wikis.

This requires two changes:

per-repo usage tracking
usage tracking on a repo

Number (2) can be ignored if we assume that in order to use foreign entities from a given repo, the local repo must be a client of that other repo. That seems to be a reasonable requirement, and may help to avoid confusion.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T149205EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: danielCc: Lydia_Pintscher, Bene, Ricordisamoa, Aklapper, daniel, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

The properties I care about (P373, P1472 and P1612) all have distinctive single value constraint, so 1:1 is true. (VIAF identifier P214 has the same constraint but there are thousands of violations which can not be resolved on Wikidata without fixing VIAF database. ). In T149108#2742575, @Jarekt wrote:
Yes that is basically T99899 except for the "identifier" part. AFAIK, identifiers, like VIAF, are a special homogeneous subset of properties. Links to pages on other wikipedia would be another, links to wikidata items would be another, sitelinks like in T74815 would be yet another. We could join this task with T99899 if the scope of T99899 was expanded, I do not know how big of a difference it makes to the solution.

The difference is very small (external id statements are also strings with a slightly different ). The potential problem here is that T99899 assumes we can do a 1:1 mapping of lookup string -> entity, that might not be possible (or even desirable?) here. If that is not an issue, I don't think this task has much value over T99899.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T149108EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: hooCc: hoo, Jarekt, Aklapper, D3r1ck01, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

TASK DESCRIPTIONIf the section on the right with the image and external ids is not too long, apparently the boxes with information take some of the space, but in a very weird way so that nothing is aligned and generally looks like nothing is really on purpose there.

It used to be space for three boxes next to each other and empty space underneath the external id section, now the third box and the external ids's section's space somehow overlap.
Probably a rather easy CSS fix.

So, with the feedback @Addshore gave me on IRC, I would suggest:

Converting, in the first case:

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS /*_*/cognate_titles (
  cgti_site VARBINARY(32) NOT NULL,
  cgti_namespace INT NOT NULL,
  cgti_title VARBINARY(255),
  cgti_key VARBINARY(255) NOT NULL,
  PRIMARY KEY (cgti_site, cgti_namespace, cgti_title)
  )/*$wgDBTableOptions*/;

CREATE INDEX /*i*/cgti_keys ON /*_*/cognate_titles (cgti_site, cgti_namespace, cgti_key);

into something more or less like:

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS /*_*/cognate_titles (
  ct_site VARBINARY(32) NOT NULL,
  ct_namespace INT NOT NULL,
  ct_title VARBINARY(255),
  ct_key INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL,
  PRIMARY KEY (ct_site, ct_key)
  )/*$wgDBTableOptions*/;

CREATE INDEX /*i*/ct_site_namespace_title ON /*_*/cognate_titles (ct_site, ct_namespace, ct_title);
// add the following if you will want to query all sites with a key (indexes depend on the SELECTs):
// CREATE INDEX /*i*/ct_key ON /*_*/cognate_titles (ct_key);

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS /*_*/cognate_keys (
  ck_id INT UNSIGNED PRIMARY KEY,
  ck_name VARBINARY(255),
  PRIMARY KEY (cgti_site, cgti_namespace, cgti_title)
  )/*$wgDBTableOptions*/;

CREATE INDEX /*i*/ck_name ON /*_*/cognate_keys (ck_name); // names can be unique or not, up to you

We didn't go deep into (site) and (namespace, title), I would definitely normalize site/interwiki on separate table on the second option you mention, it is sufficiently small in the first case.

The (namespace,title) denormalization will depend on if this allows to get rid of a having extra connections to the regular shards; I am ok if it allows that.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T148988EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: jcrespoCc: hoo, Aklapper, jcrespo, Addshore, Marostegui, Minhnv-2809, D3r1ck01, Izno, Luke081515, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Darkdadaah, Mbch331, Jay8g, Krenair___

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T149005: time values should be formatted in Wikitext output (and not just use the ISO-like representation)

Thanks a lot for the links, @Izno, this clarifies things a lot. Short version: This is mostly unrelated to what we are talking about in this ticket. The "date auto-formatting" discussed there was a MediaWiki feature that was removed a long time ago, see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgUseDynamicDates. The only thing we must consider is that we should not link dates (e.g. [[1 April]] [[2008]]). We never had plans to do this.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T149005EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: thiemowmdeCc: Izno, Aklapper, Lydia_Pintscher, daniel, aude, Lucie, thiemowmde, gerritbot, hoo, D3r1ck01, Wikidata-bugs, Mbch331___

en.WP had date auto-formatting disabled. This subsequently made its way into their manual of style at WP:DATELINK.

@hoo, I'm tempted to close this ticket as invalid because both #property and #statements do not output "just the ISO-like representation" but formatted, localized strings, e.g. "2. Oktober 2015". So what is this ticket about? The description is empty.

I would gather that hoo wants to add links, which is the kind verboten on en.WP (and which makes an assumption about the location of years articles, recently a bad assumption).

That said, if {{#property}} is already doing the piece of it which is not the linking as you suggest, then I don't see a problem anywhere.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T149005EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: IznoCc: Izno, Aklapper, Lydia_Pintscher, daniel, aude, Lucie, thiemowmde, gerritbot, hoo, D3r1ck01, Wikidata-bugs, Mbch331___

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Updated] T147307: [RfC] Decide whether values outputted by new human readable access functionality should be wrapped in spans.

2016-10-26 Thread thiemowmde
thiemowmde added a comment.
I turned this discussion left and right in my head last night. I would love to see us doing something like this:

 data-property="P570" data-property-type="time">
 data-guid="q42$65EA9C32-B26C-469B-84FE-FC612B71D159" data-value="2001-05-11">11 May 2001

So yea, this is using two spans, even if there is only one statement for a property. But not because of "consistency" reasons (doesn't matter), or because it makes writing CSS selectors easier (it doesn't), but because it just makes sense. It's a nice mapping from our data model (where property and data value are two distinct things) to HTML wikitext. It avoids any duplication.

Our default rendering will be comma-separated spans. But we provide a parameter for other list renderings. These are all I can think of that are already in use out there and make sense in certain contexts:

Line breaks:

 data-property="P570" data-property-type="time">
 data-guid="q42$65EA9C32-B26C-469B-84FE-FC612B71D159" data-value="2001-05-11">11 May 2001 />

Divs:

 data-property="P570" data-property-type="time">
 data-guid="q42$65EA9C32-B26C-469B-84FE-FC612B71D159" data-value="2001-05-11">11 May 2001

Wikitext list:

 data-property="P570" data-property-type="time">
*  data-guid="q42$65EA9C32-B26C-469B-84FE-FC612B71D159" data-value="2001-05-11">11 May 2001

HTML list:

 data-property="P570" data-property-type="time">
 data-guid="q42$65EA9C32-B26C-469B-84FE-FC612B71D159" data-value="2001-05-11">11 May 2001

Numbered lists don't make sense, because there is no order. Tables may make sense, but I can't think of a good default table rendering. I believe this needs a more complex solution, see T146735 and related.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T147307EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: hoo, thiemowmdeCc: gerritbot, Izno, Aklapper, Lydia_Pintscher, daniel, aude, Lucie, thiemowmde, hoo, Lewizho99, Maathavan, D3r1ck01, Wikidata-bugs, Mbch331___

I'm sorry, @Izno, but what does "does not allow auto-formatted dates" mean? Showing "2016-12-31" to the reader does not make much sense. Dates must be formatted.

{{#statements|…}} is meant as a convenience feature that fits most needs, but never can fit all needs. If a community does not like the output it produces, they are free to stick to #property and apply their own formatting. Additionally, I hope we can add parameters to the #statements function that allow specifying other date formats and such.
