TASK DESCRIPTIONWikibase (and Wikibase extensions) maintain high- and mid-level documentation in the docs folder. To expose this documentation on the web, it would be useful to automatically copy the latest version of these files to a canonical location, when a change is merged.

The following scheme could be used:

Files from an extension's docs folder get copied to mediawiki.org as subpages of the extension's homepage. For instance, docs/options.wiki in the Wikibase repo would be copied to Extension:Wikibase/docs/master/options.wiki. To make documentation of (snapshot) releases easily accessible, the documentation should be copied (for now, manually) when a new release is made. The path for a release could looks something like Extension:Wikibase/docs/REL1_28/options.wiki.

My suggestion is, once the fix for not introducing new duplicates (https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/354550) is in, to list all duplicate row ids in a text file (generated via a query similar to the one I already mentioned). TASK DESCRIPTIONThe data parameter of wbeditentity contains a JSON structure that is used to overwrite or modify an entity. That structure is documented in docs/change-op-serialization.wiki and similar documents for other Wikibase extensions. Links to the canonical location of these documents should be included in the self-documentation of the wbeditentity API module.

Implementation idea: ChangeOpDeserializer could get a getDocumentationUrl() method. TASK DESCRIPTIONWe should re-consider the merits of the wbeditentity module. Some problems and proposals that should be investigated:


Should we have wbeditentity at all, or rely on specialized modules for each kind of edit?
Should we have only wbeditentity, and not have specialized modules for each kind of edit?
Should wbeditentity be able to create new entities, or should creation be left to dedicated API modules? We have dedicated Special pages for creating each kind of entity, after all.
Should we have distinct modules, or at least use distinct parameters, for the operational modes of wbeditentity:
create a new entity
replace and entity with the data provided (triggered by the "clear" flag)
modify parts of an existing entity (using the input format defined by ChangeOpDeserializers)

Should we use an actual diff or patch format instead of magic ChangeOpDeserializer syntax? How about http://jsonpatch.com/?

TASK DESCRIPTIONMediaWiki core currently requires the ability to construct empty Content objects for any content model, via ContentHandler::makeEmptyContent. To support this even for kinds of entities that cannot be completely empty (like Properties and Lexemes), we need to allow EntityContent to be created with no Entity object.

Note that EntityContent can already exist with no Entity attached - in case the EntityContent is a redirect. TASK DESCRIPTIONSome kinds of entities (e.g. Lexemes) cannot be "empty" - in other words, they have required constructor parameters.

In order to construct such entities from the data provided by a client (e.g. in a call to wbeditentity), we need code that can construct an Entity of a given type based on constructor parameters encoded in a JSON structure.

This is conceptually very similar to what ChangeOpDeserializer already does for modifications of entities (by constructing the respective ChangeOps from the a JSON structure provided by the client in an API call). The same should now be done for constructing an entity.

Note: constructor arguments will need to have the same validation applied that would be applied by ChangeOps for the respective fields. The ChangeOpDeserializer should already have access to any services required for this, since it is a factory for the ChangeOps that would perform the check.

Note: EntitySavingHelper will need to be changed quite a bit so it can use ChangeOpDeserializer::createEntity() instead of EntityFactory::newEmpty(). Once this is done, the EntityFactory class can be removed.

Note: Most API modules that use EntitySavingHelper do not get sufficient information from the client to construct a non-empty entity. Automatic create-on-edit for "virtual" entities only works for entity types that do not have any required fields (other than the ID).

@Lydia_Pintscher When input search field gains focus (clicking on it) the CapsuleMultiselectWidget shows a list (in this case the data sets). TASK DESCRIPTIONIn addition to the PropertySuggester extension, we also have a python script/tool we use when updating the property pairs database table that PropertySuggester uses.

We run the tool on labs, but then use the results of the script to update the production table.

You can find a lot of existing user scripts that do more or less exactly what you are asking for. I wrote one myself, see https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer_Diskussion:TMg/moveInterwikisToTop.js (since you mentioned "de", I assume you can read the instructions).

There are also very low-profile CSS solutions. In your case:

.interwiki-de a, .interwiki-en a { background: #fff; }

You should also check if you have the "Compact Language Links" Beta feature enabled (see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Universal_Language_Selector/Compact_Language_Links).
