I tried hard to catch the use case accurately here, so that it covers all kinds of relationships (not only parents, via "subclass of", but also things like "has part" and probably many more). We would need to traverse multiple trees upwards instead of one. Well, these trees might overlap, which allows us to cache and reuse intermediate results. But the same kind of caching can be done when the Lua function is called multiple times in a loop. It still makes a difference to search one exhaustive first and then another… but probably not that much. We can go with a single from/ child id, and expand later on, if actually needed. toIds should be a table, I believe. This allows to specify more than one possible end-condition. For example, I want to check if a biography is properly categorized as either "fictional" or "living person". "Fictional" and "living person" are exclusive and not subclasses of each other. We can just make it a table in all cases, we need to support this anyway. propertyIds can be a table. The algorithm that traverses the tree upwards would not become more complex because of this. Even with one propertyId given, each entity can have multiple. Allowing more than one propertyId would not change the fact that entities in this tree can have any number of parents. However: Because of the complexity that is often not needed I would not make this parameter a table. Yeah, we can expand this later on, if there really is a need. My conclusion: I like the concept that returns an entity ID more. I didn't think of them as alternatives, but rather thought about having both. Do you think we should have the simple boolean version as well? The UI looks good and seems to work great (I tried adding multiple languages and copying them).
I was totally confused though as to what a "caption" was. In Wikipedia, a caption is always a description of an image in the context of an article. Since there is no article context in the Upload Wizard, I had no idea what to actually write as a caption. The instructions offered, "Add a brief caption of the file.", don't help to explain it. Once the uploading process was complete, I didn't see the captions that I wrote anywhere, which was also confusing. After a bit of clicking around, I figured out that the captions were actually used as Wikibase labels. I'm wondering if "caption" is the word we actually want to use here. Maybe "label" or "short description" would be better? Since I'm not sure what the actual intended purpose of these Wikibase labels is, I'm not sure what suggestion would be best.
Another thing that was slightly confusing was the instructions for the description field: "Describe what is notable about the file." I realize this is just a shortened version of the old help text ("Briefly describe everything notable about the work. For a photo, mention the main things that are depicted, the occasion, or the place."), but I feel like the overall gist of the instructions has been lost.

Here are my impressions as a Beta Tester...
Personal background for context: Long-time Commons user and administrator (over 2,000 file uploads and 17,000 edits on Commons), also helped write the UploadWizard (sorry!)
The UI looks good and seems to work great (I tried adding multiple languages and copying them).
I was totally confused though as to what a "caption" was. In Wikipedia, a caption is always a description of an image in the context of an article. Since there is no article context in the Upload Wizard, I had no idea what to actually write as a caption. The instructions offered, "Add a brief caption of the file.", don't help to explain it. Once the uploading process was complete, I didn't see the captions that I wrote anywhere, which was also confusing. After a bit of clicking around, I figured out that the captions were actually used as Wikibase labels. I'm wondering if "caption" is the word we actually want to use here. Maybe "label" or "short description" would be better? Since I'm not sure what the actual intended purpose of these Wikibase labels is, I'm not sure what suggestion would be best.
Another thing that was slightly confusing was the instructions for the description field: "Describe what is notable about the file." I realize this is just a shortened version of the old help text ("Briefly describe everything notable about the work. For a photo, mention the main things that are depicted, the occasion, or the place."), but I feel like the overall gist of the instructions has been lost.

Question: Looking at https://github.com/Wikidata/QueryAnalysis/blob/master/tools/extractAnonymized.py, at first glance, it looks like the string handline code wouldn't handle edge cases properly e.g. "foo\"bar" "foo'bar" ? (I only skimmed the code, may have misunderstood) We have a list of query types ordered by frequency. However, there are millions of query types, and the most frequent are those created by bots. I can dig up a pointer to the local file where we have it, if this is what you want. If you are interested in a broader analysis of the data, you could take a look at a recent workshop paper of ours: https://iccl.inf.tu-dresden.de/web/Inproceedings3196/en It has detailed statistics of SPARQL feature distributions and discusses some findings. Ok, that's good enough that you did that I think. CHANGES TO TASK DESCRIPTIONCurrently when adding a value of "Derived from" only Lid is shown in suggestorAs a user I want to be able to link to another Lexeme in a statement. I want to be able to see possible matches in the entity selector after typing in the first few letters of a word.
When making a new statement linking to a Lexeme the suggester should show the Lemma of the Lexemes that can be selected. Currently only the ID of the Lexeme can be entered. Current state:

My personal remarks: Please find variable names that are more specific than fromId, toId(s), and propertyId. fromId could be named childId. toIds could be named parentIds. propertyId could be named hasParentPropertyId or relationshipPropertyId. The method itself could be named getClosestParentId then. I'm not a fan of making to many parameters tables. Sure, this feels kind of natural. My investigation in T182147#3815415 also hinted at this possibility. However, the function will become complex and hard to use. Multiple fromIds can be emulated by calling the function in a loop. Allowing fromIds to be a table does not save us much, I believe. We would need to traverse multiple trees upwards instead of one. Well, these trees might overlap, which allows us to cache and reuse intermediate results. But the same kind of caching can be done when the Lua function is called multiple times in a loop. toIds should be a table, I believe. This allows to specify more than one possible end-condition. For example, I want to check if a biography is properly categorized as either "fictional" or "living person". "Fictional" and "living person" are exclusive and not subclasses of each other. propertyIds can be a table. The algorithm that traverses the tree upwards would not become more complex because of this. Even with one propertyId given, each entity can have multiple. Allowing more than one propertyId would not change the fact that entities in this tree can have any number of parents. However: Because of the complexity that is often not needed I would not make this parameter a table.
