TASK DESCRIPTIONBlazegraph BFS search is very useful, however the downside of it is that it always considers all nodes. It would be nice if we could implement the same algorithm but one that would impose conditions on considered vertices and discard those that do not satisfy the condition. Note that it's not the same as applying the condition after the BFS is done, since the failed condition on the vertex also would exclude the vertices accessible through it, even if by itself they would satisfy the condition. If you want to be pedantic, the magic word doesn't actually do anything. There is code that reads the magic word's value and stores it in the database, just as there is code that reads the database and renders it. It's just as important to be able to see the complete flow of information from wikitext to database to rendered page as it is to see the compartmentalised view. That flow happens for the magic words, just as it does for any other piece of wikitext. It would be far better if it got the first one, as there are a large number of pages where there is a default short description generated from a template or infobox, but for some of these a hand crafted short description would be better, which would be at the top of the page, so that is the one that should be displayed. If {{SHORTDESC}} appears more than once on an article's page, then the text in the final instance takes precedence.
Since the output on Wikipedia app (and previously on mobile view) appears at the top of the article, immediately after the title, it would seem natural to fix any errors by editing something also at the top of the article.
However, if there is another instance of the magic work lurking somewhere else on the page as well (perhaps buried inside a template), then an editor trying to fix a problem will be perplexed when their edit to the first instance has no effect.

I think it is fair to say that this is not exactly an isolated case (but I am surprised that you seem to (pretend) not to know? Maybe for legal reasons?) How do you think these problematic uploads should be treated? If there a drift between the practices of the community and the rules of the project, that problem should be solved. My impression is that the references I added on these statements fulfill the attribution requirement of the license (or at least the spirit of it). But I am not a lawyer. The curators of the database are aware of the import and seem quite happy with it. In general I think many open data producers do not expect that requiring attribution would be a significant hurdle for reuse. Pintoch added a comment. I think there are plenty of examples of non-CC0 data being imported in Wikidata. PubMedCentral is being imported at a large scale and as far as I can tell it is not CC0 (at least https://europepmc.org/Copyright does not make that clear. It focuses on the full texts, which we don't import, but I guess the metadata could also be protected?). I don't want to point fingers at all - I think this import is completely fine, but I would be interested if this general impression that "it's fine" can be grounded legally. Since these tables are all empty at the moment, it's reasonably likely that the database engine is simply noticing that fact and deciding that a full scan of empty tables is more efficient than using empty indexes. Items with statements that only has references to Wikipedia are not as reliable as those with external sources. Most of them are extracted from infoboxes. I understand that at the beginning of Wikidata it helped, but now we have to try to improve the quality of these items. However, I don't think we have to remove the statements. I think that our efforts should be directed to encourage the users to search and add external sources, to then remove the "imported from Wikipedia in X". A similar concern apply to the 100M unreferenced statements, although here it's not clearly in conflicting with any term of use, it is just in completely unknown legal situation. But this case is different, because it can be related with another issues. I can point to a message on the Wikidata WMfr mailing list where @Karima clearly explain how some contributor envision that point and promote a *adventurous beyond legal attitude* regarding license issue. The terms of use of the list don't allow to share it (plus it's in French, obviously :P). But maybe @Karima will be OK to express again this point of view in the current ticket. Basically my understanding of this statements is that for this like-minded contributors the plan is to consciously cross the red line and bet on a the establishment of a jurisprudence that will comfort their opinion. Apart from that it would be interesting to improve https://tools.wmflabs.org/wikidata-todo/stats.php to be able to evaluate how many statement are sourced from which data bank which release them under which condition. As it is, there are 50M statements which comes from Wikipedia, which is under CC-by-sa-unported 3.0, which is not compatible with CC-0. If the same statements might be linked to PD or CC-0 sources, et would be fine, but in current state, their presenc in Wikidata raise license concerns. This concern might possibly be resolved through something like the jurisprudence that @Karima and its like-minded follow have in mind, by removing them from Wikidata, or by some other solution yet to identify. A similar concern apply to the 100M unreferenced statements, although here it's not clearly in conflicting with any term of use, it is just in completely unknown legal situation. TASK DESCRIPTIONWhen the WDQS UI links to an image on Commons, it uses the canonical URI entered on Wikidata, which uses HTTP, not HTTPS. And sometimes we also load that full image directly in the query service UI (though usually we translate it into a thumbnail URI, which includes HTTP→HTTPS replacement), for example in the full-size image view. This results in a “mixed content” warning in Firefox (even though commons.wikimedia.org is on the HSTS preload list).

TASK DESCRIPTIONIf you run the main query, and then also get suggestions for a query template while the main query is still running (which involves another query behind the scenes), then the query runtime of the main query will be reported as the current UNIX time (in ms), an absurdly high value. I suppose we should disable runtime tracking for all auxiliary queries?

But when browsingtrying to **edit** the Cantonese Wikipediae item descriptions using eitherthe mobile interfacesapp, the correct label cannot be extracted from Wikidata because the domain name (zh-yue.*) doesn't match the language code (yue)an error occurs and the edit cannot be saved. When trying to **edit** the Cantonese item descriptions using the mobile app,The error message seems to suggest the problem has to do with the fact that the domain name (zh-yue.*) doesn't match the language code (yue). an error occurs because the app tries to find a non-existent language "zh-yue"(The domain name vs ISO 639 discrepancy is discussed on Wikidata.T10217.) The workflow should include information on how, in each step, it is important to highlight how collaboration with the Commons/Wikidata communities works - GLAM contributions to our projects are essentially also very social and community-oriented The workflow needs to include a step on 'checking what is already present on Wikidata/Commons related to the contribution you're planning to do'.
