TASK DESCRIPTION
  We've had a number of times where bots evaded throttling mechanisms of WDQS 
by using either multiple hosts or randomized user agents. Such bots can create 
significant load on the service, causing massive lags. We can throttle them 
properly by adding their query pattens to pattern.txt file, however the process 
of finding what bot is causing the load and what is the pattern is largely 
manual.
  
  I wonder if it's possible to automate this process. The way it would work 
would be:
  
  1. Detect set of "substantially similar" queries. This is most unclear part - 
how to do it - maybe by hashing first N characters of the query? Those are 
usually similar.
  2. Collect all IPs for the above. If the set of the IPs is small, and the set 
of the queries is large, this set is suspicious.
  3. Check how big and frequent these queries are. If they are over certain 
threshold, then output the set as potential bot query along with statistics of 
IPs and user agents.
  4. We might also start the search for "suspicious" queries from queries that 
time out (i.e. scan the list of timed out queries first and if there are 
"frequent flyers" see if there's more of them).
  
  That's the idea so far but more substantiation is needed. There could be 
manual components in this but the idea is to make detecting high-frequency 
distributed bots easier so we can properly throttle them.

  It sounds like this started happening after today’s 1.33.0-wmf.23 deployment, 
so added to T206677: 1.33.0-wmf.23 deployment blockers 
 (though I’m not sure if that makes 
sense – it’s not like there’s a larger Wikidata in group2 that we need to 
prevent this being rolled out to). But there were also some Wikidata changes by 
@Smalyshev, so CCing him just in case, though they look unrelated to this.
  
  Also adding to the campsite board for them to look at tomorrow (UBN tasks are 
critical enough to bypass #wikidata-campsite 
, I assume).

TASK DESCRIPTION
  If I open wikidata.org with clean environment and go to Special:Search and 
search, I get lots of namespaces searched, including talk namespaces, etc.
  
  Not sure if it's intentional or not, but the consequences are: for the user 
with default settings:
  
  - They do not get specialized Wikidata search (no languages support, no 
highlighting, etc. - almost all the features we've worked for Wikidata search 
are not used)
  - Talk spaces are searched together with article spaces - meaning index 
optimizations for splitting talk and article spaces are not used and search is 
run in slowest mode possible.
  - A lot of spaces are searched that common user would not be interested in - 
Template, etc.
  
  We need to figure out why it happens, whether it is intentional and

  While testing for this I noticed that when I click "edit" and then "cancel" 
**twice** on the sitelinks for any item with existing sitelinks (like Q42), all 
language codes displayed turn into `aa`. No idea if it's related or not though.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  The Wikidata site opens, but I'm not able to add a sitelink.
  
  And there's another Hebrew Wikipedia user who complained about it.
  
  I click the "Edit" button in the sitelinks list at 
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1016414 , and the line for typing the language 
code doesn't appear.
  
  I don't see any JavaScript errors.
  
  And if I try to use the "Add link" tool on the Wikipedia article, then 
nothing happens when I type a language code.
  
  On the Telegram channel several people think it's an "Unbreak now" issue.

  It is problematic for WDQS to "just hit varnish", because varnish does not 
know if certain revision is the latest one available or not. Wikidata on the 
other hand does.

now looking into controling the consistent positioning of e.g. 
`#page-actions-watch` via these ids.
  One thing that struck me was that there are JS-based (legacy/prototypical?) 
ways of actions being added (e.g. downloadPageAction 
)
 that do not use an offical minerva API to achieve this but write straight to 
the DOM and consequently do not profit from this change (i.e. still miss the id 
ATM). Are there plans to standardize such behavior?

  During T219364  users were not 
able to use entities that they created for a rough 24 hour period.
  
11:03 AM <+gehel> lag of multiple hours is unexpected and **should** not 
happen (or if it does, it should be treated as a bug)
11:04 AM <+gehel> but lag of < 1h is perfectly normal
  
  We should consider using a combined search again allowing users to use 
entities that they create moments after creating them rather than needing to 
worry about cirrus search lag.
  We could also consider some clever JS that when just and entity id is 
entered, detect this somehow and allow the user to try sending the edit request 
which would then be validated on the server side?
  We could also have some sort of fallback if we detect that the cirrus search 
returned no results and is lagged?

  The search index being lagged on wikidata means that users are unable to use 
items that they have created.
  I care specifically about wikidata in this ticket, but if other indexes 
should have alarms then we should probably create those too.
  
  This ticket was created after T219364 
 which caused around 24 hours of 
search index lag.
