  So this is semi-blocked on figuring out what we do for labs, since that 
impacts the reasons for immediate cleanup.
  
  We can already think about this question though: if labs is not a concern, 
can we get away with not spending effort onto this? (no cleanup (1))

  I was wondering about how much extra complexity the post request approach (4) 
would bring. In particular, which info do we need to give to the job. Giving 
the property id is not sufficient. You could give the ids of the text records 
and then in the job check if they are still unused and do the same for the 
higher level records that point to those text records. Thing is, if you already 
need to find the unused records in the request, then you can just as well 
delete them right away. Either way you have a performance penalty. So I think 
the simpler approach (immediate cleanup (3)) makes more sense as a starting 
point. Does that make sense to you?

  Interesting. Treating our internal storage as public even when it can't be 
accessed via the software is kinda weird. People that have access to a replica 
can just log/copy everything anyway, so this is a bit of a half measure. From 
an architecture PoV I'd also prefer the persistence details to be private and 
to have well defined interfaces. That's for when we talk about the labs use 
case(s) though :)

TASK DESCRIPTION
  Currently the new service (DoctrinePropertyTermStore) uses naive updating. It 
deletes everything and then inserts everything. The old wb_terms code 
(TermSqlIndex) first does a select and then a diff to only delete and insert 
those terms that changed. The new service should also do this.

  I renamed this back to an implementation agnostic task, since else we don't 
have anything to track the completion of the service implementation, and a 
parent task for more detailed things such as the cleanup logic.

  As pointed out at some point we probably want to remove the strings form the 
table fairly sharpish, as content my be removed, revdeled, and should not 
continue to appear in public places such as labs dB replicas. So that rules out 
maintenance scripts run periodically .
  
  Running the logic to cleanup tables post main request or in a job would 
probably make the most sense.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  Because of the normalization we are ending up with unused records in the DB.
  
  When the terms of a property are deleted, the records in property_terms are 
dropped. Referenced records in terms_in_lang are not dropped, etc.
  
  How do we want to deal with these unused records?
  
  - Leave them be, no need to clean them up
- Con: wasted space in db (do we care?)
  - Have a maintenance script that periodically cleans them up
- Con: extra dev work
- Con: need to run extra script
  - Clean them up immediately
- Con: extra dev work
- Con: Write performance penalty

  The same happens for the `{{#statements:…}}` parser function. IMO this is a 
huge problems and should be fixed fast. I've created T220122: Displaying 
mapframes for geocoordinate on client requires preprocessing by the user 
 for this.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  As pointed out by @Tpt in T210926#4999461 
:
  
  If Wikibase Client tries to format a coordinate (either via 
`entity:formatStatements()` in Lua or the `{{#statements:…}}` parser function), 
the user will need to manually preprocess the result of these expressions. That 
is unacceptable, as it breaks the current way these constructs are used, it is 
undocumented and also very inconvenient to use.
  
  As a solution, we should make sure we `Parser::preprocess` all (or just if 
`` is in there?) wikitext generated in 
`StatementTransclusionInteractor::formatSnaks`. For this to work, we will need 
to pass the current Parser instance through to that function :/
  
  As (AFAIR) re-preprocessing already pre-processed wikitext is a noop, we can 
safely do this change.

  IMO it would be nicer to instruct users to not run composer in the extension 
dir (would that even work? I'm not sure MW would pick up a Diff installation in 
the extensions vendor dir), but in the main MediaWiki dir (via composer merge 
plugin). I've opened a discussion to change the template in question: 
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Template_talk:ExtensionInstall#Composer_instructions_should_use_the_%22composer-merge-plugin%22,
 so I wouldn't block this task on that.

much; I just have the (very personal) impression that we see so many of them

uniformly designed. I would be all for experimenting with masking too, so let's 
definitely try that as well. I'm happy to hear other ideas from your side too.
  
  I do think collecting 'source images' is going to be quite a bit of work 
(looking at the large amount of time I usually spend looking up suitable images 
on Wikimedia Commons, for instance when I prepare a presentation), so I will 
already start creating a folder of inspiration images and will ping our 
GLAM-Wiki community for inspiration too.

normalization MUST NOT be performed when comparing IRIs for equality.
  
  This explicitly states that in RDF, IRIs are considered equal only under 
simple string comparison normalization, and even goes so far to as to 
explicitly forbid any other normalizations. Normalization of %-encoding is one 
of these "other" normalizations (see 
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3987#section-5.3.2.3), and is therefore 
explicitly ruled out.
  This is further enforced by RFC3987 itself, which in section 5.1 states:
  
  > Applications using IRIs as identity tokens with no relationship to a 
protocol MUST use the Simple String Comparison (see section 5.3.1). All other 
applications MUST select one of the comparison practices from the Comparison 
Ladder (see section 5.3 or, after IRI-to-URI conversion, select one of the 
comparison practices from the URI comparison ladder in [RFC3986], section 6.2)
  
  RDF4J (and RDF triplestores in general) fall in the first category: IRIs are 
considered identity tokens not related to a specific protocol.
  
  rdf4j will probably add a function like `wikibase:decodeUri` to deal with 
this, but won't do %-decoding automatically.

  So there's nothing to do on this issue except: document the Wikipedia 
encoding rules so we can do the same before querying. 
  Sparql's encode-for-uri 
 encodes everything 
except upper- and lower-case letters A-Z, the digits 0-9, HYPHEN-MINUS ("-"), 
LOW LINE ("_"), FULL STOP ".", and TILDE "~", but Wikipedia URLs use less 
encoding.

  **Disconnection issue**

  We use RStudio R {Shiny} package  on the 
front-end. All our dashboards  are already 
tested across a wide range of browsers and known to deliver successfully 
irrespective of the browser or the platform. The message that you are getting 
refers to a Shiny Server  
initiated disconnection that is expected in two situations (a) the user was 
idle for some time, and (b) there are was an automatically triggered server 
reboot that takes seconds only and is necessary from time to time (e.g. some 
dashboards' updates procedure trigger it). If any other cause is responsible 
for the disconnections - it's not on our side. Note that the Shiny Server Pro 
is more flexible in respect to managing situations in which a disconnection can 
occur, while we're using the open source Shiny Server (for obvious reasons).

without enough data, there's a typo: "There is no enough data to compute the

Please first (a) read the dashboard documentation, and (b) learn to make a 
difference between (b1) identifier usage and (b2) overlap data to understand 
that having (b1) does not imply having (b2) necessarily.

  Can be deleted. The idea of setting the 'text' flag here is basically a 
pre-fetch: the old code in Revision would make use of old_text and friends 
directly if present in the row from a join, and would make a separate database 
query if not. The new code will always do a separate query if 
SCHEMA_COMPAT_READ_NEW is set, since there may be more than once slot to read. 
Any old_xxx fields passed to the constructor are ignored. Thus, the 'text' flag 
can just be deleted.
  
  Note that the extra query isn't so terrible because we'd be doing a separate 
query to ExternalStore anyway. A bulk mode in BlobStore would still be nice to 
have.
  
  By the way: while you are looking at testCompression.php, it would be nice to 
replace the usage of the deprecated Revision class with 
RevisionStore/RevisionRecord. This brings us back to having a way to access 
slot content without constructing a RevisionRecord. This wouldn't need much 
more than making RevisionStore::loadSlotRecords public. If you feel like it, go 
ahead :) Should probably have a separate ticket though...

  Postponing until the new master is up and running is very unlikely to be the 
adjustment we would go to.
  
  The more likely one would be to change to migration plan 2 (take from bonfire 
slides 
):
  **on write**: write to new schema and delete from old one
  **on read** read from both schemas
  when old wb_terms is empty, read only from new schema and drop wb_terms table 
eventually
  
  This plan will actually not require extra space (not significant increase at 
least) and will result in reducing the total space usage over time gradually 
too.
  It is hard to estimate the footprint of this plan on performance, which is 
likely to be a little higher than the original one. If I can think of a way to 
estimate I will share some numbers soon.
  
  We have yet to discuss it a bit amongst us .. but thought of sharing it with 
you already in case you can already spot any concerns with it.

  @Reedy I couldn't help reading some parts of your unfinished comment as 
Phabricator sent me email. I've found the link to the ongoing discussion on SOP 
mw.org page pretty important, thanks for a hint.
  
  I also do understand, and can absolutely relate to the fact that chasing the 
moving target is, among other adjectives that could be used, not optimal.
  This particular review clearly was requested too early, apologies for that. 
What I can assure at this point, understanding it does not change the past 
issues, that the extension code  is now in the ready state, and there are only 
finishing touches being done to it this week.
  I will update this ticket next week with the new desired deployment date, 
after checking this with the Product Management, as the development took longer 
than planned, and the original date has not been met.
