  The patch was made in Thursday, got merged on Friday and backported on

patches).

  Webpack does it. But also it does a better job in minfication like 
tree-shaking, and/or other configurable magic like renaming variables, etc. RL 
minfication is pretty inefficient (but fast so it can respond in timely 
manner). T49437: Consider a pipeline for enhanced minification (e.g. support 
UglifyJS)  talks more about this, it 
uses uglifyJS but the same principle can be applied everywhere. In short, it

  Yes, that's the biggest caveat of webpack IMO //but// most debuggers have 
prettifies  you can use, so it's not that bad.

  We already saw them in real-life, dropped 137 module and T203696#5387672 
 happened, It's too noisy to 
give an exact value but you can assume dropping 137 module, increased speed of 
pages in desktop with latency of 100ms by 4%, that adds up in case of clients. 
For repos, not that much because our bottleneck is not module names but 
actually the whole modules are pretty big and a better minifier might give a 
hand. (There are other ways to improve things like lazy loading but that's 
definitely outside of scope of this work). Dropping name of modules might give 
a small boost to commons though.

  Yes, basically before committing a patch, you run npm build, and it builds 
for you and you commit both codes (here's an example 
).During
 development you run "npm start" and it listens to your files and if they

  There are a couple of situations that I remember where some validation needs 
to take place first in order to know what permissions to check.
  This mainly applies to api modules that act on multiple entity types where 
entity type specific permissions also exist.
  As for the points #1,2,3 in the description I agree with the order there.
  
  This is probably pretty low prio and probably doesn't it in as a trailbalzer, 
but rather a campsite task.
  Thoughts @alaa_wmde ?

double-redirects, it still failed due to the actual exceptipon being thrown is

  @WMDE-leszek 100% agree. I actually was just asking out of curiosity (that 
that small change would fix the issues mentioned here). We should definitely go 
down the route of having Wikibase allow to manage a layer of supported 
languages on top of languages providers that it integrates with.

  @bert I'll be there; I'm coming in on the Tuesday afternoon flight from 
Edinburgh, and then I'll be at the Comfort Hotel Xpress Stockholm Central.
  
  My focus so far has been trying to identify good Commons categories for maps 
based on bounding boxes for the georeferencing.  I've now got reasonable code 
to do that for the UK & Ireland -- see the pages here 
 for 
preparations, and hoping to get some uploading going soon.
  
  The rest of the world 
 
outside the UK is more work-in-progress, and I could use some input from people 
with local knowledge to try to achieve appropriate similar refinement.
  
  I am or will be doing Wikidata matching for all the fields I can, but 
initially with a view to writing to Wikidata-driven field templates in 
conventional file description pages, rather than SDC statements.  These should 
be easy enough to translate into matching SDC statements when the time comes, 
but at the moment my intention would be to wait until QuickStatements is 
available for bulk writing of statements, and a SPARQL service for systematic 
retrieval, before any systematic creation of SDC statements.
  
  I am interested by IIIF, but don't know enough about it.   Later versions of 
the Klokan georeferencer use IIIF for all their tile serving (ie including maps 
layers and the image to be georeferenced).  The GLAM I am working with would 
very much like to move from its images from Klokan's IIIF service to an IIIF 
service provided by WikiCommons, and use that to feed the Klokan georeferencer; 
but that would need enterprise-level throughput robustness and reliability, 
which the present WMF Labs prototype just doesn't deliver.   There are some 
indications that a proper IIIF service might be provided by an upcoming 
revision of the Wiki Multimedia service, but at the moment no hard timeline or 
guarantees.
  
  The other aspect of IIIF would be how to expose georeferencing information as 
IIIF annotations.  I really know *very* little about the IIIF annotation 
syntax, other than that it exists.  But if this looked plausible (and could be 
made compatible with offerings from other services, eg Klokan and Recogito, it 
could be quite interesting.

  My interpretation is that "this" refers to the component library, not bridge. 
I'm having trouble seeing the need for product ownership for it. Are we afraid 
that different hikes using/working on the library will have conflicting ideas 
as to what the library should contain, or how specific component interfaces 
should look like? I would hope that our usual code review processes are enough 
of a solution. I don't see a reason not to treat it like any other internal 
library for now and let it evolve naturally with as little process as possible. 
If it becomes a shiny all-purpose component library within a few months, we can 
always revisit the decision.
  
  Or is this about the resources for initial setup and maintenance that cannot 
be directly accredited to either of the ongoing hikes, and would need a special

  I like the idea of a shared component library a lot. I'd be happy to help! It 
makes sense for this to be a shared npm dependency. I don't see a lot of 
potential for stepping on each others toes since Termbox is finished with 
user-facing features for its MVP release since last week.

  There will be some cost of getting it set up initially with a repo, npm 
package, CI, storybook, and initial release and use in the two code bases. Then 
there will be maintenance cost in making releases, coordination (review, 
mainly?) across hikes.
  The benefits would be reusing components across features, higher quality 
components with more eyes on it, components looking **the same**, not just 
similar, and changes happening in a central place. Going more into the 
long-term vision, there would be great benefits in having a large component 
library serving as a communication device between dev and UX.

  I'm going to boldly decline as the current situation is intentional (see 
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/operations/dns/+/119032/ ) and as the cost 
of maintaining the list of language prefixes whenever ISO 639-3 gets updated or 
new languages are introduced outweighs the gain of going to www.wikidata.org 
and having your browser simply pick up your interface language setting. As a 
workaround you could explicitly go to https://www.wikidata.org/?uselang=en
