  It is unclear for us Scholia people how much load we are putting on WDQS. We 
have a tendency to do multiple SPARQL queries on each page and that might not 
be a problem or it might be a very bad thing. I recall a statistics on the WDQS 
query that it was mostly Magnus Manske tools that put load on WDQS, - but I 
might remember it wrongly.
  
  In Scholia, we now add a "# tool: scholia" on top of most of our queries. I 
am not aware of other tools doing that. Perhaps it was an idea to do that, so 
that Wikimedia Foundation people could more easily do statistics wrt. the 
tools. (perhaps there should not be a space between "#" and "tool".

are connected to non-scientific paper items in WD (not including authors and 
publications)"
  
  We would hope that every scientific paper has a topic annotation with one or 
more of the Wikidata items - either non-scientific paper items or - in rare 
instances - scientific paper items. Currently we "only" have around 15 million 
of these links. "Links from works to their main subjects":

  All scientific papers could also have the language set.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  When an item uses entities (e.g. saying an statement of P31 
:Q5), the non-dump (flavor=dump) RDF 
output of that item would include label and description of P31 
 and Q5 in all languages. That bloats 
the output, drastically, causes performance issues and caused a major incident 
today (while mitigated by other means).
  
  We have several options:
  
  Status quo:
  Perfectly valid situation but the output will be massive, performance issues, 
etc.
  
  A set of languages to output:
  No performance issues but decide on which languages, etc.
  
  Use request language (uselang=?) defaulting to the site language:
  Faster, no performance issue but change of behavior which people might depend 
on. Might cause client-side cache pollution.
  
  No label or description being output:
  The dump flavor does this. Not necessary bad but the most drastic change.

 for headers.
  
  Does T276366: Replace vue-cli with vite and webpack with rollup 
 mitigate the medium security risk 
in packaging? If so, we can prioritize it.
  
  Regarding performance review, I want to mention this will be on wikidata.org 
but a separate, statically served site (basically something like 
https://security.wikimedia.org/) and won't have any interaction with mediawiki 
(beside being in the same high level DNS domain). Do we still need to get 
performance review for it?

TASK DESCRIPTION
  As a Wikidata editor, I want the UI to show me useful and comprehensible 
error messages when I do something wrong.
  
  **Problem:**
  With the geoshape or tabular data datatypes, if you try to save a value for a 
data page that doesn’t exist on Commons, you get an error. That error message 
is broken:
  
  > Could not save due to an error.
  >
  > ⧼wikibase-validator-page-not-exist⧽

  GIVEN a Data: filename that does not exist on Commons
  WHEN I try to add it on some item as a statement for a geoshape or tabular

  **Acceptance criteria:**
  
  - The error message works.
  
  **Notes:**
  
  - The correct error message is “page-not-exis**ts**” 
(`wikibase-validator-page-not-exists` in `repo/i18n/en.json` and translations). 
`InterWikiLinkExistsValidator` has “page-not-exis**t**”.

  Scavenging the production logs, we found that `Special:EntityData` requests 
for rdf documents were possibly the culprit.

  As far as I can tell, we currently use best-rank `P279` statements in the 
SPARQL part of type checking, but non-deprecated-rank `P279` statements in the 
PHP part. I think we should adjust the PHP code so it also only uses best-rank 
statements.

  I think what @Addshore just found is a good candidate for being the source of 
the issue.
  
  I'll try and get some more info from apcu on servers, although they've all 
been recently restarted to ease the pressure. I will take several snapshots of 
the apcu metadata during the day.
  
  Sadly, php-fpm doesn't expose apcu data, just the metadata. We might be able 
to extract the data with some gdb wizardry, but I'd leave that as a last resort.

  You are completely right, the same hashes are not needed to apply 
EntitySchema's on memory ingestion to Wikidata. I need the hashes as a sanity 
check that my script created the exact same RDF as being produced by Wikidata 
natively. So the hashes are only needed in the development phase of the script.
  
  Here is a notebook that contains the first prototype

  If my script works, there should be no difference in the length of both 
graphs. Currently, that is not the case. I checked various examples and except 
for the hashes in those normalized statements they seem equal. But if it is 
indeed difficult to reproduce those hashes, I should reflect on another test to 
verify.
  
  In the actual validation script, not all RDF will be needed. Ignoring the 
labels for example slims down the RDF graph substantially. So I am currently 
building functionality into the WikidataIntegrator that allows selecting only 
certain parts (e.g. no truthy statements, or only truthy statements, no 
normalized values, etc). A notebook with that code is here 

  
  My PHP skills are a bit rusty, but I will investigate and or consider other 
test strategies.

design goal for Wikibase… I’m not sure what else I can say about your question

  The most important part for you is probably that the hash is based on the PHP 
serialization of the snak (see the `serialize()` call in the last code 
snippet), which means it will be pretty painful to reproduce faithfully.
  
  If your goal is to verify EntitySchemas – do you really need to produce the 
same hashes as Wikibase? Surely no EntitySchema depends on the specific value 
of a value or reference hash (`prov:wasDerivedFrom [ wdref:~ ]`, reference 
hash starts with four zeroes?), so I would hope that you could use some other 
hashing method.

  It is unlikely that the long term fix (T244590 
) will be in place for the switch 
back. The simple workaround (but far from ideal) is to revert 
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/operations/puppet/+/701927/ during the switch 
back. The more complex solution would be to implement better metrics in the 
current updater, but I doubt we will have time to do that before the switch 
back.

  I don’t think deleting the revisions should be necessary – the main thing we 
need to do is ensure that the current revision no longer contains the bad data. 
(We need to ensure that even if we wanted to delete revisions, because you 
can’t delete the content of the latest revision, as far as I know.) Once that’s 
done, regular Special:EntityData requests for those items will no longer 
generate logstash warnings – and I think the remaining possibility that 
Special:EntityData?revision=… requests will generate logstash warnings can just 
be tolerated. (We could leave a note about it in T144248: No RDF builder 
defined for data type globe-coordinate nor for value type bad in 
DispatchingValueSnakRdfBuilder::getValueBuilder 
, so that people searching for the 
error message from logstash will know that the message is expected for old 
revisions of those particular items.)

issues outlined below. I would currently rate the overall risk as: {icon

  **Vulnerable Packages - Production**
  
  **None**: as verified with `auditjs`, `snyk` and `npm audit`. Still, I'd note 
that these dependencies add an additional **584,927** lines of code to Query 
Builder's codebase, thus dramatically increasing complexity and potential 
future risk. And with dev dependencies, that figure becomes **9,678,194** lines 
of code.  Risk: {icon check-circle color=green} **Low**.
  
  **Vulnerable Packages - Development**
  
  `npm audit` (though curiously //not// `snyk` or `auditjs`) found a 
//massive// number of development dependency vulnerabilites: **5,551** to be 
exact.  They break down as 1 low, 303 moderate and 5,247 high from 2,875 
scanned packages.  Allegedly, `npm audit fix` can be used to automatically 
upgrade the vast majority to secure versions, while 35 require manual review.  
While development dependency vulnerabilities typically pose a //substantially 
smaller// risk than those found within production dependencies, the risk is not 
zero, especially for development tools used to build production artifacts like 
`vue-cli-service`.  Just scanning the results, I'd note that a large volume of 
these appear to be for the `@vue/cli-service`, `@vue/cli-plugin-unit-jest` and 
`netlify-cli` dependencies, so bumping those to more recent versions (if 
feasible) would likely substantially reduce this risk.  For now, given the 
sheer volume of vulnerabilities, and the fact these are for somewhat-critical 
development tools, particularly `vue-cli-service`, this will be rated as a 
{icon exclamation-triangle color=orange} **High Risk**.

  I wasn't looking for guarantees about the hash values. They have a value a 
sanity check in a[[ https://github.com/Wikidata/triplify-json |  reverse 
engineering project ]] we are doing to reproduce the Wikidata/Wikibase RDF 
outside wikibase itself.  We need this to be able to apply EntitySchema's 
pre-ingestion. Currently, EntitySchema's can only be applied post data 
ingestion. The script, as it currently works, builds the RDF from the JSON. 
That JSON object is enriched and the idea is to then verify if the new JSON 
object still fits the EntitySchema before it is submitted to the API of 
Wikidata.
  
  In building that RDF script the hash values have a role in verifying the 
(reversed engineered) script does indeed reflect the exact same RDF as it is 
produced natively by Wikidata. For most snaks the hash values are given in the 
JSON that is produced by the API of wikidata.
  
  This is not the case for those values in the RDF that are not given by the 
JSON export. This is specifically for the normalized values on time and globe 
coordinates. That is why I am interested in the algorithm that is used to 
produce those hash values internally.
