  Just ran in to this when trying to help troubleshoot a page for someone.  Is 
there a ?useskin= option to use the legacy vector by the way?
  
  I don't see a screen shot like the one in the description - there is no "Add 
links" link at all when I just checked a page on vecwiki for example.

  I corrected also the name in cyrillic mongolism, this is not the Mongolian 
meta language (only mn meta-language is supported for now)
  , but only the Khalkha variant. The 3 languages are unsupported.

  If I read the integration config correctly, the 
`generic-node12-browser-webdriver-docker` job runs that script using the 
`docker-registry.wikimedia.org/releng/node12-test-browser:0.0.2` image, and the 
Bash in there supports process substitution just fine as far as I can tell:

  @Lydia_Pintscher we'd like to change the file size limit from "10k lines" to 
"10MB", because at this step of processing the upload, we do not open the file 
and read it, yet. The check on a maximum number of lines can happen later, 
during the import process. 10MB file size is the equivalent of 10k lines, each 
filled with 250 4-byte unicode characters. A file containing 10k lines of only 
1-byte ASCII characters will be a lot smaller (by factor 4, obviously).

with `#!/bin/bash`, but maybe it’s being run by a non-Bash shell (e.g. Dash)?

TASK DESCRIPTION
  Currently, our CI uses `rm` and `cp` to completely remove our live site and 
copy it over each time we deploy code (i.e. each merge to `main`). However, a 
possibly faster and more robust way is to use `rsync` to incrementally copy 
files after they have been sent to the server.
  
  This will also eliminate the need to maintain a separate `.env` master file 
that is copied over in each deployment, and eliminate the risk of losing 
uploaded files (in case files uploaded are in the repo's "storage" directory)
  
  **Current behavior**:
  In the "Deploy code" step of our `deply-app.yml` github workflow, the live 
site is `rm`d and `cp` over into the tool account.
  
  **Expected Behaviour (AC)**:

live site is `rsynced` incrementally over into the tool account.
  [ ] `.env` file is no longer copied into the deployed code folder after 
copying is complete (the only version of `.env` lives in the

  My 2c from a rather different perspective.
  
  Support for IE11 in WMF is in this weird stage of "no support for new 
products but keeping support for widely used/old interfaces" but it's not going 
to stay like this forever, we drop support for old browsers once a year or so, 
even if frontend-wise we don't push for dropping support, the platform of IE11 
might lose support (e.g. due to TLS versions or ciphersuites it supports which 
happened with several versions of Firefox and IE9)
  
  My biggest point is that we are currently using wikit for new features now 
and I assume (just assumption) by the time we reach rewriting the old UI with 
wikit, the whole support for IE11 would be already dropped by core. So I don't 
see the point of keeping IE support in wikit or tie it to core's support of 
IE11.

  That's a very important point, @wiese. My message reinforces a relationship 
of causality that doesn't have to be, not necessarily. There's always the 
chance to still provide support for IE, even if we're based on ES6, and 
deciding how to do so, at scale, might even help us avoid making decisions for 
specific browsers in the future. I forgot to link the notes from the last Front 
end standards meeting  
with WMF's Design system team, where the need to rely on progressive 
enhancement was mentioned while discussing the history behind this task.

  Hm, I think there’s two different things here.
  
  1. It looks like we removed the “-BETA” from the name of the latest dumps 
(e.g. latest-all.ttl.gz 
), but not 
from the timestamped ones (e.g. wikidata-20210628-all-BETA.ttl.gz 
).
 This wasn’t mentioned in the announcement 
,
 so I don’t think it’s intentional, and we probably want to fix it.
  
  2. @Rtroncy, I’m not sure what you mean by the same content, but as far as 
I’m aware, we don’t guarantee any atomicity for those dumps, neither within a 
dump nor between them. Since the `.nt`, `.ttl` and `.json` dumps are created 
independently (as far as I know), they probably don’t quite contain the same 
data, because Wikidata edits continue while the dumpers are working. Does that 
answer your question?

(in .nt and .ttl formats) and a -all.json format dump. Is it normal? Can you 
please confirm that the content of those dumps is the same except for the 
serialization format?

using `wbparsevalue`, and that JSON specifies the file name with an underscore, 
we still want to save it using a space, just as we do (I assume) for sitelinks.
  
  Hm, let me walk that back a bit. Sitelinks and commonsMedia values aren’t the 
same thing – I’m not sure if there are currently any places where we normalize 
data value contents.
  
  Maybe we should instead:
  
  1. Make the value parser normalize page names. This should be a fairly 
straightforward change that we can make without breaking anything.
  2. Make the value validator reject non-normalized page names. This would be a 
breaking change to the API (announce in advance, waiting period, etc.) that we 
would make afterwards.
  
  (“Normalize” here mainly means replacing underscores with spaces, though I 
could imagine some Unicode normalization as well.)

  A data point to prevent anchoring: the causality "only use the ES6 standard 
to implement new features, and thus we'll be dropping optimal support for IE11" 
(T178356 's gist; @Sarai-WMDE is 
just the messenger) does not exist. It is only valid in a – somewhat artificial 
– universe where there is no way for a computer to help us (stern look at 
T199004 ).
  
  However, for years, WMDE has been implementing in languages (e.g. TypeScript, 
less/sass) and using technologies (webpack, postcss) which allow us to have the 
development enviroment which makes us the most productive //and// have the 
browser support required at the same time – in this respect we //can// have the 
cake and eat it, too (with constraints, but those are not reached).
  
  (This is not an argument for or against IE support, but an argument for 
asking the right questions and keeping discussion chains unentangled unless 
combining them provides a benefit)

the correct code unless it's approved and added here, but to approve a code and

TASK DESCRIPTION
  Special:MergeItems  as a 
standard Wikibase feature, is also available on Wikidata.org
  
  However, on Wikidata, mergers are mostly done with a gadget that relies on 
the api, see Help:Merge .
  
  Users trying to use the special page mostly end up being confused.
  
  Accordingly, it was suggested to de-activate the special page: 
Project_chat#Deactivate_Special%3AMergeItems 
.
  
  The only potential use at Wikidata could be to enable editing without 
javascript (per discussion), but this is currently not an option nor considered 
a priority.

  I can explain this behavior, if it helps. The first date is unambiguous. We 
do have a parser that ignores all punctuation. It checks if it can find 3 
numbers, and if there is only one way these 3 numbers can be mapped to a year, 
month, and day. This works for an input like "2001 8 31", but not "2016 7 1". 
The later can be January 7th or July 1st. The current set of parsers can't know 
and gives up.
  
  One possible solution is to add a new parser especially for Japanese dates.

  as we started one week belated, we have only proceeded with 3 Newsletters 
instead of 6. 
  Hence, we will have to prolongue the project after returning from holidays. 
  I will prepare 3 further newsletters from July 21st and will add more tags to 
the tracking doc.
  Can you already tell me, if and when you will be available to update the 
tracking? Could you manage on 23rd of July f.ex.?

  I have just realized that even if the double quotation marks are removed from 
the URLs some tags are still observed as having a quotation mark attached. For 
whatever reason this happens, I will simply clean that up in the analytics code 
directly.

  The problem - which is really not a problem - is that 
`?WMDE_2021_wikipost_3_1` and `WMDE_2021_wikipost_3_1` would be  treated as two 
different tags in the analytics code.

  Just following up on Tonina's message and pinging @Lydia_Pintscher, since she 
was part of the original discussion: I agree that the Wikidata/Wikibase team 
should make explicit whether we uniformly abide by the Foundation's decision to 
only use the ES6 standard to implement new features, and thus we'll be dropping 
optimal support for IE11 (first for new features, and later for existing 
features and tools once their functionality is "replaced or repaired").
  
  I would support keeping this ticket in case we want to include our own 
supporting arguments (as Tonina mentioned) in our response/agreement with the 
WMF's compatibility stance. Once our standpoint is documented, we could create 
a new ticket to "Drop IE support in WiKit" (and proceed with the technical task 
of removing the IE browser tests, and subsequently modify ADR 10 
).

  Exactly, I want to emphasize that page_props is not a scalability/performance 
concern. ALL of page_props (with wikidata, etc.) in enwiki is just 2.8GB, it's 
25th biggest table. To compare, output of autoreview logs of flaggedrevs in 
ruwiki in just two years is bigger than all of page_props of enwiki. In commons 
it's a bit bigger but it's still 17th biggest table there. Or in other numbers 
it's only 0.7% of commons database and 0.3% of enwiki's database.
  
  Even if page_props becomes big enough to be a scalability concern, it's 
rather easily fixable but normalizing it to a NameTableStore.

  For sitelinks, it looks like this happens in `SetSiteLink::getChangeOp()`, 
with a call to `$site->normalizePageName()`; the result ends up in 
`SiteLinkChangeOpFactory::newSetSiteLinkOp()`.
  
  For Commons media, it looks like we already normalize the page name in 
`CachingCommonsMediaFileNameLookup`, but that class is only used by 
`CommonsMediaExistsValidato)`, which only checks that the normalized name isn’t 
null before throwing it away. (More or less the same thing seems to be true for 
geoshape and tabular data validation, too.)

  @jhsoby already said that `mix` is inappropriate because it's only Mixtepec 
Mixtec. Subtags make language codes more specific, so `mix` with any subtag 
still means some variety of Mixtepec Mixtec.

campaigns, who will be sent on 7 and 14 July. I've also noticed the ?? - does 
it matter? Shall I change them? The other tags remain the same.

  But I think the value parser is the wrong point to do this normalization 
anyways. We want to normalize on save, not on parse – even if someone directly 
creates the JSON for a commonsMedia value and submits it to the API without 
using `wbparsevalue`, and that JSON specifies the file name with an underscore, 
we still want to save it using a space, just as we do (I assume) for sitelinks.

  I feel like optimizing the page prop is probably not worth the effort (after 
all, connected pages almost certainly outnumber unconnected pages, whether 
expected or unexpected, as long as we don’t count excluded namespaces, and we 
write a page prop for each connected page), and we should just write a page 
prop whenever we encounter the magic word. (If that becomes a problem, we can 
still change it later.)
