  I started a PAWS notebook where I will evaluate the proposed strategy (Recoin 
with additional of reference/labels rules) against the 2020 dataset (~4k items) 
of assessed Wikidata item qualities. This will allow me to relatively cheapily

  My only caution is that using strings to represent languages can be quite 
error-prone, given that there are different "string codes" floating around for 
the same language.  In an ideal world, I'd say you should create a light-weight 
language object in lua that you can pass around without actually invoking 
mw.language.new (or bump the maxLangCacheSize only when actually loading the 
language file, not simply when creating the object).   ::getBcp47Code() (or 
`::getHtmlCode()`) and `::getCode()` can be invoked on that lightweight object 
to make it clear which code you are using, and similarly, 
`mw.language.newFromBcp47()` and `mw.language.newFromMw()` would make it clear 
which "type of string" you are using to create the language object.

  Another part of `wikibase.common` that gets lost on mobile is that the entity 
ID part of an entity link (“Douglas Adams (Q42)”) is shown in a slightly 
smaller font. I don’t think this is worth a separate Phabricator task, it’s 
just another bit of CSS that should be moved to the “all targets” module at the 
same time.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  As a mobile Wikidata visitor, I don’t want to see language fallback 
indicators if the fallback is just within language variants, e. g. from British 
or Canadian English (`en-gb`, `en-ca`) to “English” (`en`).
  
  **Problem:**
  Language fallback indicators for variant fallbacks are hidden on desktop 
(implemented in T174318  and since 
then fixed in a few more places), but not on mobile. The relevant styles are 
currently in the desktop-only `wikibase.common` ResourceLoader module.
  
  **Tech note:** T325084  splits 
`wikibase.common` into two modules; the styles that hide variant fallback 
indicators should then move from `wikibase.desktop` to `wikibase.alltargets`. 
This also means that a bunch of places can stop loading the more heavyweight 
`wikibase.desktop` module – history views, Special:NewLexeme etc. only need the 
link styles from `wikibase.alltargets`.

  I would prefer wikitext over normal text, so that it would be "Use {{unknown 
value}} instead of anonymous when the author is unknown." in the example. New 
users might not know what "unknown value" happens to be and the wikitext 
template gives the user the link to the page that explains it in more detail.

  The Wikidata Reliability Metrics 
 track 
the median execution time of wbeditentity and wbgetentities and alert if it’s 
outside the range 250 - 700 ms (wbeditentity) or 20 - 30 ms (wbgetentities). 
Both of them are frequently outside that range – specifically, frequently 
//below// the configured minimum time.
  
  wbeditentity is frequently flapping around the 250 ms threshold for the past 
quarter year or so:

  wbgetentities is mainly below the 20 ms threshold and only occasionally 
poking through above it:

  We should reconsider these thresholds to stop the alerts from firing all the 
time: at least decrease the lower threshold, and maybe also the upper one.

  Together with the MediaWiki core change mentioned above, I think this change 
is viable and (once the core change is reviewed) ready to merge, but it will 
change what’s recorded in the `langlinks` database table, which might confuse 
existing Quarry queries, tools etc. – I think this needs approval from a 
Wikidata PM (@Lydia_Pintscher, @Manuel, @Arian_Bozorg?), and we should consider 
announcing it somewhere (Tech News might work).

  Script to verify that making Wikibase emit e.g. `[[be-tarask:xyz]]` instead 
of `[[be-x-old:xyz]]`, as proposed by Ide36585f2c 
 for 
T112426 , is sound for all 
deprecated language codes. Emits TAP-like output (but without a version) and 
exits nonzero on error.

  wdqs2010 locked up as well. At this point, we can rule out OOM. The most 
likely culprit is NFS, which is already scheduled to be replaced by rsync 
.
  
  More concerning is the failure of wdqs1009, which ran for 17 days and failed 
when Blazegraph corrupted its own journal (NFS was not a factor). We are 
starting the reload process again on 1009 and 1010.

clarification under the violation works best:

  Some may have multiple constraint violations and I think this option will be 
a clear way of grouping them all together.
  
  Regarding capitalisation and punctuation; as the clarification comes from the 
community, I think it is best to keep them as is. Both to encourage better / 
cleaner information from them and also not to accidentally undo correct 
information.

  One unintended consequence of this change is that the focus outline of links 
is now gone in Firefox, where it was previously nice and visible. (However, in 
Chromium, links already didn’t have a focus outline and that doesn’t change.) 
Is this okay to deploy, or should we find a fix for the focus outline first?
