TASK DESCRIPTION Extension WikidataPageBanner should suppress TOC on pages with the banner. This usual behavior has changed today, and the standard column-style TOC appears now even when banner is present. It affects all pages on English Wikivoyage, for example: https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Prague TOC should be switched off on pages with the banner. This can be achieved by adding the __NOTOC__ keyword in the template that calls the banner. However, I am not sure if such a solution is really desirable, or something should be fixed inside the Mediawiki code instead. Table of contents created by Extension:WikidataPageBanner at Russian
Wikivoyage is displayed in a very small font, which is perhaps 70% of the
normal font size. My attempt of fixing this issue using
.ext-wpb-pagebanner li.toclevel-1 {
font-size: 100%;
}
was unsuccessful. I have an impression that something simply overwrites our
styles. The issue appeared at the same time as T255102

I guess we can live with the same setting as English Wikivoyage, but we would like to place the map and GPX icons on the same line as the geographical navigation. Could you advise us on how to do this in the current setting? I see this is done in English Wikivoyage somehow, but I don't really understand how. They put the icons into , but I don't see where it is defined. Since the time both extensions were introduced, the banner was sitting above the navigation line, at least in Russian Wikivoyage. This has changed in the beginning of July, and now the navigation line precedes the banner. We would like to have this change reverted, because it was not discussed with the community and obscures the view of Wikivoyage articles. Atsirlin added a comment. @Legoktm: Frankly speaking, for a small project like Wikivoyage the cache brings no obvious benefits, but triggers many serious issues including the problem of page banners and ToC. The dirty trick of automatic cache purge worked perfectly fine in the last 3 weeks, and I believe that it could be used further even if it violates some general philosophy of the Mediawiki software. I am fine with having this cache purge feature reverted, but you have to propose another solution. At this point, having stable page banners and ToC is very important for us, while anything related to the cache is of minor relevance to the project. These errors are sporadic and hardly reproducible: same page may be displayed correctly for logged-in users and produce an error for those logged-out. The problem can be remedied by purging page cache. Apparently, one can patch Common.js such that the cache is purged every time when the page is loaded, but that looks like a dirty solution. Would it be possible to find a better one? The implementation should be similar, but not exactly the same. Initially I forgot to add it, and we had exactly the same problem when the '>' symbol was not there. Then Sumit pointed me to this mistake (see the discussion above), I added '>', and everything went to normal. Today the ToC was broken and I tried to remove '>', simply as a blind guess, but this had no effect, so I reverted the change. It would be helpful if you could explain me what this whole thing means. For example, we also have .ext-wpb-pagebanner li.toclevel-1:last-child > a:after in the same css file, but I have no idea how to read this, and whether '>' is needed. Herald added a project: Wikidata. TASK DESCRIPTION We have a problem with the recently deployed extension WikidataPageBanner. It is supposed to show a bottom line with TOC. But some of the pages contain the TOC line with symbol "1" right under the banner and the standard Wikimedia TOC on its regular place before the first section. This problem is solved by purging the cache, but it happens way too often. Yesterday I have noticed it at least 15 times. Purging of the cache had temporary effect, and the problem appeared again after 1-2 hours, even though no edits were done to that pages. Today we tried to track the problem and arrived at rather confusing results here: https://ru.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Wikivoyage:Пивная_путешественников#Пропал_баннер_в_пивной We identified several pages where the problem appears: https://ru.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Новосибирск https://ru.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Иордания https://ru.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Самара https://ru.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Димитровград but it does not appear for all users. For example, I don't see it when I am logged in, and I see the problem when I log out. Altogether, this became a frequent and annoying problem that needs to be solved. Wrong performance of the pagebanner extension has huge (and unpredictable) influence on the appearance of Wikivoyage articles. TASK DESCRIPTION
I tried to use the bottomtoc= parameter in {{PAGEBANNER}}, and it simply does
not work. I get the standard TOC and nothing on the banner or below it (where
the TOC should be). The current description at:
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WikidataPageBanner
gives somewhat conflicting information on whether I should use bottomtoc=yes
or write
.wpb-topbanner-toc{
position: relative;
}
in Mediawiki:Common.css. But none of those two give the result that I need.
Any help will be appreciated!

Atsirlin added a comment. Thanks, Sumit. It was not straight-forward! Two more questions: i) multi-line TOC has large spacing between the lines. Compare, for example, https://ru.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Москва (new format) https://ru.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Прага (old format) Is it possible to reduce this line spacing, or, ideally, to have it adjustable? ii) So far we had a bit of white space between the bottom of the banner and the top of the TOC (see same articles as above). We will discuss whether we prefer to remove this white space now, but this may be another parameter that is worth customizing. The maps are embedded using the same java script as on English Wikivoyage, but then these embedded maps are placed into a collapsible environment. Map should be folded by default, but in the mobile version it is automatically unfolded. In fact, there are certain features of the map embedding that I do not understand, and I would be grateful if you could provide us technical assistance. Should we perhaps continue on-wiki because the maps are independent from pagebanners? Atsirlin added a comment. @Sumit: sorry, one more question. I implemented dots between section titles using the style from English Wikivoyage. It looks fine on most of the screens, but on the 12-inch screen the desktop version becomes weird. All dots go under the section titles. Same problem on English Wikivoyage, although nobody reported it so far. Do you know why it could happen, and how to fix this? Atsirlin added a comment. @Sumit, it looks like my problem was solved by this fix. Perhaps I copied the code from the old version of Mediawiki:Common.css? I don't know, but it was my very weird mistake combined with some caching issues, when my laptop and table displayed banners differently at the same time. TASK DESCRIPTION Russian Wikivoyage puts ToC under the banner, not on top of it. See, for example: https://ru.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Москва It is very useful for longer ToCs, and our regular ToCs take two lines on most of the screens, because Russian words are generally longer their their English equivalents. Therefore, it would be great to have the option of placing ToC under the banner, customized within the template or site-wide. Thank you!
