[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] T290300: Serve WCQS Sparql endpoint through api.wikimedia.org with OAuth 2

2021-12-20 Thread JeanFred
JeanFred added a comment.

  I share the opinion of @Multichill, @LucasWerkmeister and others: I
understand the rationale for authentication, and I think I can live with it as
user ; but as a tool developer, I don’t want to have to implement OAuth2 in my
tools (such as #tool-integraality
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/tool-integraality/>) − I was planning to
add WCQS to inteGraality (T294893 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T294893>)
but frankly I’m unlikely to do so if I have to throw in oauth on top.

  So a first step in making this acceptable could be to have an authentication
mechanism that’s transparently figured out already for toolforge accounts (that
might be covered by the API gateway plans mentioned by @Zbyszko?) − like
credentials already available on disk like for ToolsDB for some straightforward
mechanism (OAuth token, basic auth for all I care). I assume SUL is planned as
auth provider − having to register a WIkimedia username for every tool would
also be unnecessary hassle (some tools may have a companion bot account like
integraality does ; many won’t) − then tool-users would need to be somehow
recognized as well.

  This of course does not solve the issue for non-Toolforge tools, or perhaps
more crucially for user-scripts (for examples of SPARQL-querying scripts, come
to my mind IdentifierInput
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:1Veertje/identifierInput.js> or ExMusica.js
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Nikki/ExMusica.js> − there must be plenty
of others). What’s the plan for such scripts − having their credentials in
plain text in the JS? Some proxy?

TASK DESCRIPTION
  Perhaps this was never intended to be supported, but I expected this to work:

#TEMPLATE={"template":"Timeline of video games from
?country","variables":{"?country":{"query":" SELECT ?id WHERE { ?id wdt:P31
wd:Q6256 . }"} } }
#defaultView:BarChart
SELECT ?year (COUNT(?game) AS ?count) WHERE {
  {
SELECT DISTINCT ?game ?gameLabel (MIN(?game_date) AS
?original_date_game) WHERE {
  BIND(wd:Q142 AS ?country)
  ?game (wdt:P31/(wdt:P279*)) wd:Q7889;
wdt:P495 ?country;
wdt:P577 ?game_date.
  FILTER(!(wikibase:isSomeValue(?game_date)))
  SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language
"[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
}
GROUP BY ?game ?gameLabel
  }
  BIND(STR(YEAR(?original_date_game)) AS ?year)
}
GROUP BY ?year

  However, the UI for the template kicks in only when the BIND is in the
top-level query, not the subquery

  (I guess it’s possible to rewrite this particular query so that it works ;
but I think the use-case exists nonetheless)

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] T265573: Allow to mark Structured Data on Commons edits as minor

2020-10-15 Thread JeanFred
JeanFred created this task.
JeanFred added projects: StructuredDataOnCommons,
MediaWiki-extensions-WikibaseRepository.
Restricted Application added a subscriber: Aklapper.
Restricted Application added a project: Wikidata.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  It is my understanding that there is currently no way for
#structureddataoncommons
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/structureddataoncommons/> edits to be
marked as minor <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Minor_edit>.

  There is currently friction on Wikimedia Commons, where a tool for adding
Structured Data claims gets more traction and some users have their watchlist
flooded with tool-assisted edits. Some users feel that these edits should be
marked as minor, which could make them easier to filter out in the watchlist.

  There is not necessarily consensus that these particular tool-assisted edits
should always be marked as minor, or that they should be mark-able as minor.
However, this is a conversation that the community cannot really have, since
there would be no technical way to implement it at the moment.

  (Also, the particular problem described above could arguably be better
addressed with T174349: Have a way to exclude Tagged edits
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T174349> ; but nevertheless the general
point has merits and has wider application than just the particular tool being
discuss)

  As this is done (if I’m not mistaken) via `wbsetclaim`, this somewhat relates
to T52933: api module wbsetclaim doesn't accept the bot param
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T52933>.

  (Feel free to rename this task to be more general, as I suppose it’s not
about Commons in particular)

  (I would have thought there was already a task for this, but could not find
any − please merge if I missed it)

  I don’t understand why this would be unfortunate. One can trivially convert
prose fragment case to the case you desire (by upper-casing the first letter),
while the reverse is not-trivial (one cannot just lower-case the first letter,

  That resonates with me. As a bot operator I totally understand and expect
that my edits might be throttled. However, it is super painful for read-only
workflows, like the one I describe in T244030
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T244030>: all I want is read one wikipage,
which can result in a 30min wait time − as it’s 'interactive', it makes for a
