One of the new error messages at the bottom of en:Higgs Boson as I type:

Lua error in mw.wikibase.entity.lua at line 37: data.schemaVersion must be a number, got nil instead.

For the second time the category has shrunk dramatically: yesterday there were hundreds of articles in it, now there are only 16.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T170039EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: JohnBlackburneCc: eranroz, IKhitron, Kipod, zhuyifei1999, PokestarFan, hoo, Anomie, gerritbot, thiemowmde, Salgo60, AnotherLadsgroup, RolandUnger, Larske, Arbnos, daniel, putnik, Framawiki, Zebulon84, Thibaut120094, TerraCodes, Jay8g, Liuxinyu970226, aude, Vachovec1, Zdzislaw, ValterVB, Agabi10, Ankry, Jarekt, Lydia_Pintscher, matej_suchanek, JohnBlackburne, Aklapper, Johnuniq, Cosine02, Lordiis, GoranSMilovanovic, Adik2382, Th3d3v1ls, Ramalepe, Liugev6, QZanden, Lewizho99, JJMC89, Maathavan, Johan, Izno, Luke081515, Cwek, Wikidata-bugs, Dinoguy1000, jayvdb, MrStradivarius, Arlolra, TheDJ, Jackmcbarn, Mbch331___

What you describe is in my experience how the category works in general. Before this issue the category (on en.wp) had far fewer articles, and I would from time to time go through them and check them. Some I could fix and they would immediately be removed from the category. But others even if fixed (whether by me or already by someone else) were not removed from the category, taking hours, even a day, to be removed.

One example is a temporarily broken template. Someone making an edit to a template which breaks it, then quickly reverting or fixing a problem as they notice it. Sometimes this would result in pages being put in the category and still being in it several hours later.

So I would not read anything into the pages not being removed from the category even after being 'fixed', It is just how that category works.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T170039EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: JohnBlackburneCc: gerritbot, thiemowmde, Salgo60, AnotherLadsgroup, RolandUnger, Larske, Arbnos, daniel, putnik, Framawiki, Zebulon84, Thibaut120094, TerraCodes, Jay8g, Liuxinyu970226, aude, Vachovec1, Zdzislaw, ValterVB, Agabi10, Ankry, Jarekt, Lydia_Pintscher, matej_suchanek, JohnBlackburne, Aklapper, Johnuniq, Cosine02, Lordiis, GoranSMilovanovic, Adik2382, Th3d3v1ls, Ramalepe, Liugev6, QZanden, Lewizho99, JJMC89, Maathavan, Johan, Izno, Luke081515, Cwek, Wikidata-bugs, Dinoguy1000, jayvdb, MrStradivarius, Anomie, Arlolra, TheDJ, Jackmcbarn, Mbch331___

Interestingly one of the examples today seems to coincide with an edit, a bot edit. The article is Bergamo and no doubt it will be promptly purged but the date and time in in the page list by date/time exactly matches the last edit by InternetArchiveBot. I think this is just coincidence though; all other pages I have looked at there is no edit to the page or to e.g. a template that caused it when I have checked.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T170039EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: JohnBlackburneCc: AnotherLadsgroup, RolandUnger, Larske, Arbnos, daniel, putnik, Framawiki, Zebulon84, Thibaut120094, TerraCodes, Jay8g, Liuxinyu970226, aude, Vachovec1, Zdzislaw, ValterVB, Agabi10, Ankry, Jarekt, Lydia_Pintscher, matej_suchanek, JohnBlackburne, Aklapper, Johnuniq, Cosine02, GoranSMilovanovic, QZanden, JJMC89, Johan, Izno, Luke081515, Cwek, Wikidata-bugs, Dinoguy1000, jayvdb, MrStradivarius, Anomie, Arlolra, TheDJ, Jackmcbarn, Mbch331___

I mean to Category:Pages with script errors. The link at the top of the page lists them by the date they were added. As always seems to be the case with this error no edit triggers it; it can happen to actively edited pages or to pages that have not been edited for months or years. It seems totally random, except obviously it only happens to pages with templates/modules that access Wikidata.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T170039EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: JohnBlackburneCc: daniel, putnik, Framawiki, Zebulon84, Thibaut120094, TerraCodes, Jay8g, Liuxinyu970226, aude, Vachovec1, Zdzislaw, ValterVB, Agabi10, Ankry, Jarekt, Lydia_Pintscher, matej_suchanek, JohnBlackburne, Aklapper, Johnuniq, Cosine02, GoranSMilovanovic, QZanden, JJMC89, Izno, Fuzheado, Cwek, Wikidata-bugs, Dinoguy1000, jayvdb, MrStradivarius, zhuyifei1999, Shizhao, Anomie, Arlolra, Jackmcbarn, Mbch331___

It has always been the case that the pages can be fixed by purging – that was noted in the initial report. Purging is easy if you know to do it and how to do it, but many if not most editors, never mind readers, will not know to do so. And it is the nature of the problem that it can appear in almost any article, as probably most now have a template (Authority control, coords, cross-project linking templates) that uses Wikidata, from almost empty stubs to high importance featured articles.

Māui Pōmare got added to the category 90 minutes ago. It has not been fixed and is still happening. Only two today is very low but I noted its variability above.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T170039EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: JohnBlackburneCc: daniel, putnik, Framawiki, Zebulon84, Thibaut120094, TerraCodes, Jay8g, Liuxinyu970226, aude, Vachovec1, Zdzislaw, ValterVB, Agabi10, Ankry, Jarekt, Lydia_Pintscher, matej_suchanek, JohnBlackburne, Aklapper, Johnuniq, Cosine02, GoranSMilovanovic, QZanden, JJMC89, Izno, Fuzheado, Cwek, Wikidata-bugs, Dinoguy1000, jayvdb, MrStradivarius, zhuyifei1999, Shizhao, Anomie, Arlolra, Jackmcbarn, Mbch331___

It’s still happening. I went through a portion of the articles in the en.wp category yesterday and found one more. And as I check again there are only two articles in the category but one has the problem (until someone purges it): Māui Pōmare.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T170039EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: JohnBlackburneCc: daniel, putnik, Framawiki, Zebulon84, Thibaut120094, TerraCodes, Jay8g, Liuxinyu970226, aude, Vachovec1, Zdzislaw, ValterVB, Agabi10, Ankry, Jarekt, Lydia_Pintscher, matej_suchanek, JohnBlackburne, Aklapper, Johnuniq, Cosine02, GoranSMilovanovic, QZanden, JJMC89, Izno, Fuzheado, Cwek, Wikidata-bugs, Dinoguy1000, jayvdb, MrStradivarius, zhuyifei1999, Shizhao, Anomie, Arlolra, Jackmcbarn, Mbch331___

Just to know: yesterday I emptied the category "Pages with script errors" on italian wikipedia (18:20) now, after 18 hours the category has 723 pages, and increasing continuously

I went through the en.wp category yesterday, as the number of articles in it fell from 160+ to 30 or so. It was worth doing as while it was unusable a number of actual problem in pages had arisen. Good thing I did too, as the number is rising again, now up to 68 articles. The number of pages using Wikidata should be pretty stable, increasing slowly over time, so I don’t know if this high variability indicates anything.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T170039EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: JohnBlackburneCc: Framawiki, Zebulon84, Thibaut120094, TerraCodes, Jay8g, Liuxinyu970226, aude, Vachovec1, Zdzislaw, ValterVB, Agabi10, Ankry, Jarekt, Lydia_Pintscher, matej_suchanek, JohnBlackburne, Aklapper, Johnuniq, Cosine02, GoranSMilovanovic, QZanden, JJMC89, Izno, Fuzheado, Cwek, Wikidata-bugs, Dinoguy1000, jayvdb, MrStradivarius, zhuyifei1999, Shizhao, Anomie, Arlolra, Jackmcbarn, Mbch331___

It is not just one big red message. It is as many as there are uses of Wikidata on the page, sometimes showing the error message above, sometimes something else as it tries to use that as input to something, and it’s not uncommon to see two, sometimes more. Here is Alcantara, Cebu on en.wp, the worst example of it I’ve seen so far.
