If the goal is to make simplewiki more visible in the sidebar, the task should reflect that, rather than a specific proposed solution. If there is a desire to have an on-wiki per-domain whitelisting, similar to the interwiki map, this should be controllable together with the URL formatting (P1630). When I asked on behalf of Wikimedia, the names were added (maybe because I'm Wikimedia's CLDR ST manager?). CLDR's position is simply that they add names *only if* member orgs intend to actually use them and translate them (or at least one of them). I just need a list of language names which have a standard language code (not some Wikimedia-specific thing) and are actually in use (for Wikidata, this could mean having at least a few thousands labels/descriptions in that language, I guess?). It would be more useful to have MediaWiki find all the language codes (and names) it actually needs, e.g. for #language, #babel, ULS. TASK DESCRIPTIONAfter all "notable" placeholders are made indexable on the Welsh Wikipedia (cywiki, cy.wikipedia.org) per T117693#3038880, and before we try on another wiki, we should tweak how we select items. Currently, according to Hoo, we just use whatever has "3+ statements, 2+ sitelinks". One worry I have, and which I couldn't verify due to T144592#3038988, is that we're currently indexing placeholders which are largely in English (or some other fallback language). One possible solution is to only count the statements which have a property and item with a label in the current wiki's language. If an item has 50 statements, the items used by those statements have no Welsh labels at all, the statement count will be 0 and the item will not be considered "notable" enough for indexing.
