[Wikimedia-l] WMF commitment for a Wikimedia projects archive

With all of the strategy discussions still on-going, it would be good
to know where the long term public archive of our Wikimedia projects
sits within it.

As has been mentioned on this list previously, when volunteers donate
to the Internet Archive, there is some comfort that their efforts in
helping preserve public domain media will be accessible and archived
for 100 years.

I have been unable to work out what the Wikimedia Foundations
commitment is to maintaining a publicly accessible project archive. I
may be wrong and would love to have someone post a link that puts me
right, but based on past discussions, I suspect that if a project gets
closed or mothballed, there is no specific commitment to fund public
access to any archives. The WMF may be unable to match the 100 year
commitment that the Internet Archive plans for, but it would be jolly
nice to have a commitment to something and have that promoted in the
long term strategy.

The best example I can think of is Wikimedia Commons as this is a
significant size, so committing to maintaining a 10 or 20 year archive
(not just an operational backup) is not an insignificant thing to find
publicly accessible server space for or earmark a specific budget for.

possibility for you to ask the same WMF source who to direct this question
to? Have you tried to ask AffCom, WMF SuSa or the community engagement team?

Hello Isaac,

Thank's a lot for your message. The affiliate I belong to has already
requested more details on that sanction. However, from the information
already provided, it is directly related to an AffCom resolution dating
back from 8 April 2018, without any relation to me.

For the moment I am not requesting anything to AffCom, as AffCom has not
even had the decency of informing me of the sanction, and I had to know
about it by 3rd parties in a very embarrassing and outrageous situation.
Also, after several situations where the AffCom was caught distorting the
truth, when not blatantly lying, as it is now, always failing to
substantiate their accusations when requested, I do not deem it to be a
trustworthy body - and the fact that AffCom was left unchecked and
unaccountable for years, even empowered to decide itself its own members,
certainly is not alien to this state of affairs. So I'm not presuming good
faith on AFfCom as well, and I'm requesting a formal investigation on this
and former similar situations involving AffCom.

I do not care much about the sanction itself, though it is quite annoying,
especially to my affiliate, but the fact that it was decided in secrecy,
and its blatant fraudulent nature, with false accusations involving my
person, is quite enraging and outrageous.

I think the correct venue to ask for such a large, cross-cutting, strategic
commitment would be with the strategy process working groups, and not this
mailing list. Did you try engaging with them?

Dear fellow Wikimedians,

Below you will find Wikimedia Deutschland’s 2018 report to the Wikimedia
Movement. Since 2017, Wikimedia Deutschland no longer receives movement
funds through the Annual Plan Grant program (via the Funds Dissemination
Committee, FDC). However, as an organization of this movement, we are
committed to sharing annually what we do and what we learn, being
accountable for our financial resources, and checking progress and impact
based on goals and objectives in Wikimedia Deutschland’s Annual Plan.

In this report you will find overviews, stories and descriptions of our
work in 2018 in three fields of action: Volunteers, Technology/ Software
Development and Conditions for Free Knowledge, as well as about our general
support for the Wikimedia movement. You will also find the financial
information for fiscal year 2018. This report for the movement goes out to
all people and affiliates who are interested in learning more about the
work of our chapter. A broader, less detailed view will be provided in our
Annual Report, to be published in the upcoming weeks.

Hola Wikimedia and education community!

We are in the final week of applications to the Wikimedia & Education
Greenhouse, time has really flown by! We have heard many of you have a
great idea for a team application but are a little worried about the
requirements for completing the application form or about the time needed.
Don't you worry!

We have created a step-by-step video guide showing you how a team could go
about completing the application form using an imaginary (but very
realistic) example. It takes less than an hour

You can watch the video along while completing your team application for
extra tips, explanations, and clear examples. We hope you find it helpful!

Additionally, we will be hosting two "Hit Submit!" virtual sessions to
support you through the process of completing a team application form. The
goal of these virtual events is that by the end of the session you will be
able to submit a complete team application! Join us in the following times
and dates:

- Thursday May 9, 13:00 - 15:00 UTC (link to join
)
- Saturday May 11, 15:00 - 17:00 UTC (link to join
)

Before saying goodbye I'd also like to answer one common question we have
received: What happens after the team applications close on May 12? Well,
from May 13 - 19 we are giving the community the opportunity to provide
feedback to the team applications. This means teams will have one extra
week to make improvements to their proposals before the selection committee
starts their review process.

We hope this encourages you to submit a team application soon! Don't forget
that if you need any extra support we are only a message away.

We just held our first national conference in Indonesia with 82
participants for the closed session and 100 selected participants for the
open session.[1] Our theme for the conference was "a window of
