[Wikimedia-l] Re: [Wikimedia Research Showcase] May 15 at 16:30 UTC

2024-05-14 Thread Shaba 50
Hi Kinneret,

Thanks for sharing the details of the upcoming Research Showcase. The theme
for this showcase, *Reader to Editor Pipeline*, sounds intriguing.

I'm especially interested in the Journey Transitions research project,
which explores how readers and editors perceive their relationships with
Wikipedia.

I'm also curious to learn more about the Growth features that the Wikimedia
Foundation is developing to improve the newcomer experience.

I'll be sure to tune in to the live stream tomorrow at 9:30 AM PST / 16:30
UTC.

I'm looking forward to hearing the presentations and participating in the
conversation in the YouTube chat.

Thanks again for the update!

Best regards,
Aliyu Shaba.

[Wikimedia-l] Re: Joint Statement on Palestine

2024-04-11 Thread Shaba 50
Greetings Farah and fellow Wikimedians,

I am writing to express my support for the Joint Statement on Palestine. I
am deeply concerned about the humanitarian catastrophe in Palestine and
believe that Wikimedia groups, affiliates, allies, and volunteers should
unite in solidarity with humanity and demand an immediate and lasting
ceasefire to halt the tragic loss of life and destruction of Palestinian
cultural heritage.

I urge the WMF to prioritize the impartial dissemination of information and
accurate, real-time documentation of the current human-caused humanitarian
disaster and erasure of cultural heritage. I also urge the WMF to take
proactive measures to ensure the safety of volunteers, communities,
partners, and knowledge and memory institutions from Palestine contributing
to the dissemination of knowledge.

Thank you for your leadership on this important issue.

In solidarity,
Aliyu Shaba.

[Wikimedia-l] Re: Wikinotebooks: A Wiki for Computational Notebooks

2024-04-02 Thread Shaba 50
Dear Adam,

Thank you for your prompt response and the additional insights you
provided. I am excited to see the fuller proposal for Wikinotebooks on
Meta-Wiki.

I appreciate your consideration of categorizing, organizing, and searching
for wiki-notebooks, as well as the inclusion of talk pages. These features
would greatly enhance the usability and community engagement with the
platform.

The ideas for task-specific templates, input forms, and real-time
processing of computational notebooks are also intriguing. These features
could significantly streamline the creation and editing process, making
Wikinotebooks more accessible and efficient for users.

I am particularly interested in the potential for AI assistants to provide
contextual recommendations and detect anomalous usage scenarios. These
features could greatly enhance the user experience and help ensure the
quality and consistency of the content generated on Wikinotebooks.

Best regards,
Aliyu Shaba

2024-04-02 Thread Shaba 50
Hi Adam,

Thank you for your email and the exciting ideas you shared for a new
Wikimedia sister project: Wikinotebooks. I find the concept of a
wiki-style, multi-user collaboration platform for notebook-based computing
to be intriguing and potentially transformative for our community.

I appreciate the detailed explanation of how Wikinotebooks could enhance
the generation and utilization of multimedia resources, streamline data
processing and visualization, and facilitate interconnectedness between
various components of the Wikimedia ecosystem. The integration with
Wikidata and the ability to leverage JavaScript or Python for data
manipulation opens up a wide range of possibilities for computational
exploration and knowledge creation.

I am also intrigued by the potential synergies between Wikinotebooks and
the proposed Wikianswers project.

Collaborative notebook environments could provide a valuable platform for
developing and refining answers to complex questions and fostering
discussions among experts and enthusiasts.

Thank you again for your initiative and thoughtfulness. I look forward to
continuing the conversation and working together to advance the Wikimedia
movement.

Best regards,
Aliyu Shaba.

Thank you for sharing this opportunity with the community. I'm eager to
learn more about Wikidata. I'm planning to attend the online event and I'm
also interested in scheduling my own session.

I'll be sure to check out the guidance page.

Best regards,

[Wikimedia-l] Re: Announcing Publication of the Wikimedia Foundation’s Child Rights Impact Assessment

2024-01-17 Thread Shaba 50
Hi Ricky,

Thank you for sharing this important information with the community. I'm
particularly interested in the recommendations that the Foundation and the
volunteer community could implement to mitigate the risks that children
face when accessing and participating in Wikimedia projects.

I think it's important that we do everything we can to make Wikimedia a
safe space for children, and I'm glad that the Foundation is taking this
issue seriously.

I'm also interested in hearing from other members of the community about
their thoughts on the risks and recommendations from the report.

I think it's important that we have a dialogue about this topic so that we
can come up with the best possible solutions.

I'm looking forward to the community conversation hours on Friday. I hope to
see you there!

Best Regards,
Aliyu Shaba.

[Wikimedia-l] Re: Arabic Wikipedia day of action

2023-12-22 Thread Shaba 50
Farah Jack Mustaklem,

Thank you for sharing this information. I appreciate the effort that the
Arabic Wikipedia editors are taking to highlight the plight of the
Palestinian people and to call for peace. I hope that this action will help
to raise awareness of the situation and to bring about a peaceful
resolution to the conflict.

I also appreciate the fact that Wikipedia remains accessible for reading,
even though it is not editable for 24 hours. This is a good way to ensure
that people can still access information about the Palestinian people and
the conflict, even though they cannot edit the site.

I hope that this action will be successful in achieving its goals. I wish
you and the Arabic Wikipedia editors all the best in your efforts.

Best wishes,
Aliyu Shaba.

 Dear fellow Wikimedians,

This is an update from the Movement Charter
  process. We have
closed the call for candidates on September 14 (AoE
 ) for the Drafting
 Committee

and now have a pool of candidates

with diverse backgrounds to choose from.

The 15 member committee will be selected with a 3-step process

 :

-

Election process for project communities to elect 7 members of the
committee.
-

Selection process for affiliates to select 6 members of the
committee.
-

Wikimedia Foundation process to appoint 2 members of the committee.

 Communities elect 7 members
