Hi Farah,

I'm personally committed "to catalysing a successful charter + council".
This doesn't mean that I support the ratification of the current Charter or
that random people who try to pressure me to vote "yes" are achieving their
goal, not the opposite of it.

2024-06-25 Thread Victoria Doronina
Hello Samuel,

I agree with you that we need

...to iterate towards a working charter and council, this year, with
shorter cycles and public collaboration and broad participation by
individual contributors, not just affiliates.

However, you may be unaware that Lorenzo, Rosie and I are in the process of
the board elections, so I don't think that any of us are able to make a
firm commitment to catalyzing a successful charter + council.

As far as I remember, yes—the rate of account creation, making more than
one edit, and the percentage of unreverted edits was higher than in other
methods. I think this is a spectacular result and a completely unexpected
source for the new editors.

[Wikimedia-l] Re: Sister Projects Committee

2023-12-26 Thread Victoria Doronina
Hello Frosty,

In case you missed some comments on the page, the Board of Trustees has
initiated

Wikimedia Foundation Community Affairs Committee/Sister Projects Task Force
- Meta

The Sister Project Taskforce currently consists of 6 Trustees (Natalia
Timkiv, Esra'a Al Shafei, Mike Peel, Rosie Stephenson-Goodknight, Lorenzo
Llosa and myself) as well as fiveI volunteers selected after an open call -
Bilinghurst, Sj, Noe, Kasyap, Galahad.

Now is probably a good time to summarise the Sister Project Taskforce work
in 2023:

After the creation of the Sister Project Taskforce initiated by the Chair
of the Board of Trustees Community Affairs Committee Shani Evenstein
Sigalov, we advertised the volunteer advisory members' positions, conducted
the interviews and welcomed the new members.

The Taskforce had nine meetings of the Taskforce in 2023, including a
hybrid - in Singapore, where we ran a workshop on Sister Projects during
the Wikimania 2023. Rosie and Lorenzo had run a similar workshop in Toronto
during the Conference North America 2023. The results of the workshops were
incorporated into the Taskforce group.

As a result of our work, we have drafted documents pertinent to the Sister
project's lifecycle. In 2024, we will present these documents to the Board
of Trustees.

I would be happy to answer any questions; just bear in mind that this is a
work in progress.

Season's greetings

Victoria

[Wikimedia-l] Re: activity around Wikimedia.ru

2023-05-25 Thread Victoria Doronina
Hello Yaroslav,

Let me get this straight: there's no links between the Russian Wikipedia
community and the chapter, but you left the Community because of your
conflict with the Director of the chapter?

I disagree that the chapter is useless. Yes, it was always used by Medeyko
for personal gains, but the current director, Stas Kozlovsky did a lot of
advocacy for free knowledge in the Russian Parliament, Duma. I believe it's
one of the main reasons why Wikipedia is not blocked in Russia yet.

He also promoted Wikipedia among universities students.

The chapter supports communities of the "small languages" projects,
organises conferences (disclosure: I was a keynote speaker on the last
annual conference), etc

I think that only people who actually live in Russia can estimate the
chapter impact, and we should not forget the usual tension between the
online and offline parts of the Movement. I'm an online person, so it took
me a while to get what useful things offline people are doing instead of
writing articles.

Kind regards,

Victoria, Russian Wikipedia editor since 2006

I want to say that The Board has done its main job - changed the CEO means
" by mutual agreement". If there's a mutual agreement that the current CEO
is leaving, the Board will inevitably have to find a new one, e.g. change
the CEO.

Also, I find your complete lack of good faith and attempts to catch out
everybody on anything very unpleasant and completely contradictory to the
spirit of the Movement.

[Wikimedia-l] The Board Sister Project Faskforce is looking for the voluntary advisory members

2023-04-14 Thread Victoria Doronina
Dear all,

I am writing on behalf of the Community Affairs Committee of the Wikimedia
Foundation Board of Trustees [1] to invite you to work with us as a Volunteer
Advisory Member of the Board’s newest task force–the Sister Projects Task
Force. The Sister Projects Task Force will be a group of community members
and Foundation trustees working together on a strategy to support the life
cycle of non-Wikipedia projects across the movement.

The Community Affairs Committee charter calls on addressing “the review of
the existing sister projects and new sister site applications, including
creating a formalized procedure, from application to approval/rejection”
[2] as one of the responsibilities of the Committee. We are forming the
Sister Projects Task Force to deliver on this commitment. This Task Force
will create processes to support the development of sister projects, which
enrich and expand the way we share knowledge with the world.

We need your expertise to make this happen. We welcome applicants from
different sister projects, regions and languages, bringing different
perspectives to the table. You can read more about the selection process
and apply to join us on Meta [3]. Apply until 15 May 2023.

Please share this email with anyone you think may be interested in applying.

Best regards,

Victoria Doronina

Wikimedia Foundation trustee, Lead of the Wikimedia Foundation Board Sister
Projects Task Force (SiPTaF)

I can find contact details of Belarusian wikimedians who live in
