Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] WCI 2012 (Was: REMINDER: Wikimania 2013 - invitation to bid)

2012-01-25 Thread wheredevelsdare

Personally, I dont think Mumbai is in a position to do another one this year.

Also, imo, like Wikimania has an unofficial rotation policy wherein the event
takes place in different continents each year, we should make sure that the
locations are in different parts of the country to give everyone the
opportunity and make sure its not the same people traveling long distances each
time.

2012-01-25 Thread Adethya Sudarsanan
Hello,

I suggest that we conduct WikiConference India 2012 @ some place on the
east coast of India. Considering that WikiConference India 2011 was held @
West Coast (Mumbai), we can plan something in Orissa, West Bengal, Andra
Pradesh , Tamil Nadu.

We can also have it like 2011 was in Bombay (notice B), 2012 can be in
Calcutta (notice C), 2013 can be in Delhi (notice D) like B, C,D
alphabetical order. I know A is missing... we can have sometime in
Ahmedabad or Assam

It will be like we are following a fashion in organizaing events.
Just my opinion.

Open for suggestions.

Regards,
Ade.

2012-01-25 Thread Vickram Crishna
As discussed with Nikita and Dr Nagarjuna, the HBCSE has kindly offered the
use of the Gnowledge Labs at Deonar on Saturday 28 Jan afternoon (2pm
onwards; the request was for a couple of hours) for the conclusion of the
planned Photowalk, in order to complete uploading/tagging/captioning etc of
the pictures acquired to Wikimedia.

Organisers may please coordinate with Dr Nagarjuna directly (nagarjun;
gnowledge, org) to confirm how many persons etc will be attending. The lab
has computers (GNU/Linux only) and connectivity. He may not personally be
there on Saturday itself, so please make sure the details are confirmed in
advance. HBCSE is a security campus (part of TIFR) and visitors will need
to take passes at the gate and have them signed in acknowledgment by an
HBCSE staffer before leaving. You also need to make clear what digital
equipment will be carried into the campus (phones, cameras, laptops) and
declare it coming and going to the security staff at the gate.

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] WCI 2012

2012-01-25 Thread CherianTinu Abraham
A good idea is to do similar to Wikimania, by inviting bids from respective
local city communities. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2013_bids

A panel consisting of representatives from the Wikimedia India Chapter,
Community and the Wikimedia Foundation can be formed to select the city.

I think we need to develop this page further
http://wiki.wikimedia.in/WikiConference_India_2012

While in no particular order, it is advisable to select a city in a
different region each time.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Wikimania 2012 - scholarship applications, Deadline : 16 Feb 2012

2012-01-25 Thread CherianTinu Abraham
Hi all,
Wikimania is the annual international conference of Wikimedians ,
jointly hosted by the local team ( usually local chapter) and the Wikimedia
Foundation.

The previous conferences were held in Frankfurt, Germany (2005), Boston,
USA (2006), Taipei, Taiwan (2007), Alexandria, Egypt (2008), Buenos Aires,
Argentina (2009), Gdańsk, Poland (2010), and Haifa, Israel (2011).

This year, it is to be held in Washington DC, United States of America, on
July 12-14 , 2012. http://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

I have attended the Wikimanias in Gdansk and Haifa, along with several
other Wikipedians from India.

http://wiki.wikimedia.in/Wikimania2011

I highly recommend everyone to apply and attend Wikimania !

Like every year, The Wikimedia Foundation is offering a limited number of
scholarships to offset the cost of select individuals' attendance at
Wikimania.

Both full and partial scholarships are available for Wikimania 2012:
Full scholarships will award round trip travel, dorms accommodations
and registration.
Partial scholarships will subsidize up to 300€ of travel expenses.

Scholarship recipients have to bear themselves the additional costs of
taxis, visa & travel agent charges etc.

More Information : http://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Scholarships
Apply here : https://secure.wikidc.org/wm/schols/
Deadline : *16 Feb 2012*

Around 30 % of the scholarship are allocated to Asia & Pacific, so there
are more chances of scholarship applications from India to be selected. :)

Please note that the selection is mostly based on the merit of the
applications.
One of the common mistakes that Wikimedians in India make is that we aren't
enough vocal of what we do. So please do write in detail about your
Wikimedia activities.

Please feel free to forward this to various language and city mailing lists
and encourage other Wikimedians to apply.

All the best wishes!

Regards
Tinu Cherian

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Analysis of IEP: Quantitative Analysis & Tory Read's Report

2012-01-25 Thread Theo10011
I see Tory responding to end her engagement on the issue, 2-4 days after
she started responding on the talk page. I see a total of 4 edits from her
this month, on the issue.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:India_Education_Program/Analysis/Independent_Report_from_Tory_Read

I left a question for Barry mostly, on the talk page. Do you think it was
the right decision to have Tory do this report? If you recall, I mentioned
why you didn't chose a community member or even an Indian to do the report
about shortcomings of the education program *for India*? maybe in addition
to Tory?

This was what I tried to allude to earlier- consultants, employees,
generally people with paid engagement for a topic, leave after the said
term of their engagement. They can not provide the ongoing discussion and
engagement a community member can.

I brought this exact issue up when this was first announced.

Regards
Theo

[Wikimediaindia-l] GLAM proposal for National Crafts Museum

2012-01-25 Thread Noopur
Dear all,
In Delhi we have been working on a collaboration with the National Crafts
Museum and the director has been helpful enough to accept our draft and
forward it to the Ministry of Culture. This is a copy of the final proposal
we sent her and may be used if you want to make your own proposals for the
future.

This may specially help Pranav and others trying to write one for MSA.
Thank you,
Warmly
Noopur
