[Wikimediaindia-l] *Volunteers required for translating the Paris OER Declaration*

2013-06-10 Thread Pranav Curumsey
Hiya,

Bala and I received a request a few days ago from Tim Seal of the Open
University (UK), with whom we have been in touch in the last few months
regarding open licensing of content and donation to Wikisource etc. among
other matters.

Tim requested us if we could help with translation of the Paris OER
declaration, which is currently not available in any Indian Language. Would
appreciate if community members could take this up. In case your
interested, please contact Bala or myself offlist.

Volunteers for translating the Paris OER Declaration

The Paris OER Declaration, adopted in 2012 during the World OER Congress,
is now available in 10 languages:
http://www.unesco.org/new/en/communication-and-information/access-to-knowledge/open-educational-resources/what-is-the-paris-oer-declaration/
In order to make the document accessible to the largest number, we are
looking for volunteers to translate it into other languages. They are all
accepted, so if you want to translate it into your language that would be a
great opportunity to contribute to the awareness of OER.

[Wikimediaindia-l] *Use of Images from India Office Records on Wikipedia*

2013-06-10 Thread Pranav Curumsey
Hiya,

As some of you may be aware, I was in London for GLAM-Wiki which was held
at the British Library a couple of months ago. This gave me the chance to
interact with several members/trustees etc at Wikimedia UK. One of the
discussions we had was getting images from the India Office Records onto
Wikimedia Commons. These images are rare insights into our country in the
19th and 20th century. Andrew Gray, formerly Wikipedian in Residence at the
British Library agreed to help.

Andrew has managed to get a few collections onto Commons in the last couple
of months. A couple of days ago he emailed me, suggesting it may be easier
for him to push for further collections to be shared (there are thousands
of images, the process would take years to get everything) should we
showcase use of images already donated on various Wikis.

Requesting community members to share this far and wide and to help add the
images onto relevant articles.

Excerpt from Andrew's email:

One thing that would be good is being able to show the material we've
got so far is reaching a new audience - not just in en.wp, but in
hi.wp, bn.wp, etc. Any chance you could see if we can get some more of
these used on Indic-language projects?

[Wikimediaindia-l] Announcement: A2K's MoU with TISS

2013-06-10 Thread Nitika Tandon
Dear All,

Institutional partnerships (especially in the higher education context) is a
cross-cutting activity across A2K's various language plans and also the pilot
project. A2K Team is happy to share with you an important outcome on this
front.

CIS-A2K has signed an MoU with TISS as part of which we will collaboratively
work towards building Digital Knowledge Partnerships with select higher
education institutions. The objective is to enhance digital literacy in the
Indian languages and facilitate collaborative knowledge production and free
dissemination. A2K along with TISS will co-design and jointly implement
relevant training programmes to achieve this. Further, within TISS campuses we
will endeavour to bring teaching-learning processes onto free and open digital
platforms, including Indian language Wikipedias. The A2K team would like to
acknowledge the pivotal role played by our Adviser Dr. Tejaswini Niranjana in
buildig this collaboration.

We'll keep you posted as and when new developments shape up and would like to
actively involve Mumbai Wikipedians in planning, designing and rolling out
Wikipedia training programmes.

Thanks

Hi,
Wanted to know the specifics of facilitate collaborative knowledge
production and free dissemination , facilitate collaborative knowledge
production and free dissemination basically the MOU itself since it will
be helpful for others to pitch in or pitch to other universities and have
programmes like these in various other institutions too.
