[Wikimediaindia-l] More India news about Wikidata

2014-01-17 Thread Gerard Meijssen
Hoi,

There are a few more exciting bits to report:

   - the userinterface of the Reasonator is now available in Malayalam and
   Telugu [1]
   - there is information about the Malayalam calendar
   - I have started to add information about the 60 year cycle in the
   Telugu calendar [2]

Obviously you can join in the fun and help for instance with the
localisation of the user interface in your language [3] or help by adding
labels in your language. When your language is not yet supported in
Wikidata [4], let me know and I will see what I can do.
Thanks,
 GerardM

I haven't a single clue what all is happening out there, as you describe it
Gerard, but I'm realy happy you all are doing stuff which I think would not
have got done otherwise! Localisation, and creating the bare bone
infrastructure is not the flambouyant part of wiki-contributing but easily
one of the most important! Congrats, best wishes to all you guys out there,
including especially Gerard! My thanks encouragement! :)

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] More India news about Wikidata

2014-01-17 Thread Gerard Meijssen
Hoi,
A good question... the answer is every Indian language but let me explain.

The policy of the language committee has changed; every language that is
ISO-639-3 recognised will be recognised as eligible for use with Wikidata.
No localisation of MediaWiki is required for this.

The point is that at this stage there is hardly any localisation needed for
the Reasonator. It already provides a powerful amount of information. As
more information becomes available, the information becomes richer in a
language.

Using Reasonator does not take much effort. If there is a problem, it is
with the people adding the necessary information, particularly the labels
in a language. Adding labels to Wikidata is easy; you can either look for a
subject and start completing the labels used on an item or you can use one
of the other schemes that help you be as effective as you want to be.

So any recognised language is eligible. We may need to resolve issues about
scripts and orthographies. That is largely beside the point of your
question.
Thanks,
  GerardM
