Thanks for the precious info

btw, it is sad to see that if anybody wants to jump here in Wikimedia India
list and posts something, people rejects out-rightly. This is bad sign. Bad
sign for the growth of the community.

Diversity and inclusion are the key aspect for the Wikipedia India growth.
India is a country of diversity. Sankarshan wrote about something and see
the reaction.

http://wiki.wikimedia.in/Wikimedia_India_Chapter_Executive_Committee_Members

Out of five members mentioned here, 3 are from Pune. One of Kerala, one of
Banglore. Diversity of regions, diversity of expertise, diversity of
languages can only make Wikipedia growth in India. Please do something for
it.

No offense to anyone, but I am forced to say here that Wikipedia needs more
worker than adviser.

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Setting Up of the Advisory Council at Wikimedia India

2016-03-29 Thread Arun Ramarathnam
Dear Abhinav and EC,

Good to see the chapter reach out and put together a formal document
outlining the Advisory panel they need. I went through it.

My view is that the exercise would be effective for you if the EC calls out
what skills they are short on and the kind of advise they need? Are there
any goals they seek to achieve that they need help with? Are the specific
challenges the team is having difficulty surmounting?

Calling out these out would help volunteers for the advisory board assess
and reflect if they can fulfill that role suitably/effectively*.*

It is not the pedigree of the panel member alone but what time they can
make and what expertise of theirs is helpful for the chapter. Also panel
members need to be complementary and work well with each other.

Just sharing from my past experience working with teams and advisory boards.

Also how does the chapter intend to handle down selects if they receive
more nominations than they need?

Also don't hesitate to ask for help and reach out to people who you think
may add value to those role, keeping the movement and chapter's interest
first.

Best wishes to the EC. Good luck on this exercise.

Warm regards
Arun

[Wikimediaindia-l] Fwd: [WMIN-Members] Re: Setting Up of the Advisory Council at Wikimedia India

2016-03-29 Thread Bodhisattwa Mandal
Hi all,

Thanks Satdeep for the nomination. I am really honored.

But I am very sorry that I cannot accept the nomination, as I am being
provided infrastructure support from WMIN, which is essential for me to
continue my volunteer on-wiki activities as a community member, and it will
be a conflict of interest from my part to continue to get the support as
well as become a Advisory committee member.

I am also happy to nominate the name of Satdeep Gill, as he is one of the
most active community members in India (both on-wiki and off-wiki) and also
the founder member of Punjabi Wikimedia User Group, the first user group
from India. He was also mentioned as Wikimedian of the Year in Wikimania
Mexico in 2015 by Jimbo Wales. In my opinion, his addition to the committee
will improve the communication gap between the community and the chapter.

Best wishes,
