Thanks Santosh for this great effort. But I would like to request you and
future hackathon co-ordinator, please share your plan before hackathon at
proper mailing list or create a fabricator project for hackathon. [1] [2]
[3].  Otherwise most of the community member not aware that what you were
planning to resolve. Are those above application  most needed wishlist from
Indic community? Are there any documents/discussion?

[Wikimediaindia-l] OpenCon 2015 Ranchi

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I am happy to be in this Wiki India Mailing List Before I could involve 
myself in the community discussions on Wiki, please allow me to post some 
information about OpenCon

I hope many of you know that during our Wiki Conference at Chandigarh our 
friends Sailesh, Abhinav, Kavya and others had organised OpenCon 2016 
Chandigarh.

A similar satellite event of the main OpenCon 2016 conference would also be 
happening at Ranchi in the month of November and the date is tentatively fixed 
as 12th Second Saturday. And it is being organised by the Open Access India 


The probable venue would be Ranchi University. Still it was not confirmed but 
most probably it would at Ranchi University.

and get yourself registered at https://opencon2016ranchi.sched.org/

I am not sure if any Wikipedians are in Ranchi. When we conducted Wikipedia 15 
event at Ranchi https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_15/Events/Ranchi, I 
was not aware about this mailing list and so we could not get Ranchi 
Wikipedians.

Now, I am sure some of you who are Ranchi or nearby may participate in the 
event and also speak & share about Wikipedia as Open Educational Resources.

If not able to travel physically, you may also speak via Skye. hangouts or 
another web tool.

I hope you would be supporting this satellite event as you did for the OpenCon 
2016 Chandigarh.

application, which is useful to all community.

*1)* *WikiSpeak with native language :* (Hindi) (*Web Application* + *Android
Mobile application*).
*2)* *Edit Tamil Wiktionary **(Tamil community request)** :* - (*Android
application*)
*3)* *Audio file upload to WikiData (Punjabi community request) :* (*Android
application*)
*4) Wikipedia articles on google map :* find wikipedia articles on google
map (with latitude and longitude) as per city.
*5) OCR (Native Application) *: Convert scanned book copy to Indian
language text with google doc (Tested for Hindi and Malayalam).
*6) Communication platform[WebRTC] (Web Application)* : Community used this
to talk or conference (Audio/video web conferencing application)
*7) Notification (Event based)* :  showing popup on event eg (If recent
changes happen, It will show popup which article was updated)

[Wikimediaindia-l] Scrapping of data from Digital dictionaries of South Asia - Indic Languages : A wiktionary project

Dear all ,

I have been working quite some time to scrap data from Digital dictionaries
of South Asia . 

Quite an amount of success has been achieved
.The basic idea is simple -
I use a python program using Beautiful soup , scrap the data from the site
using a simple crawler and take out the output in a text file which can be
hacked around and output tweeked according to our needs . Though I have
written the program , a lot help has been got from infofarme
r
.

This has been written for Punjabi Wiktionay . I can sit down and port it
for all Indiac Languages and the data can be used in Wikitionary .
Suggestions and improvements welcomed .

Sure. That would be great. We would love to have a virtual edit-a-thon.

To be honest, I'd also like to use the interest in local interest to build
up wider interest here in contributing to the Wikipedia as a whole.

The next local gaps waiting to be filled (as far as we here are concerned)
include:

* Educational institutions in Goa
* Konkan Railway stations in Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka
