[Wikimediaindia-l] Re: Announcement of SAARC Movement Charter selector and elections

2021-10-12 Thread Abbad Diraneyya
Hello Bodhisattwa,

Thank you so much for your follow up and the important point you raise
about affiliate involvement.

It seems to me that there's an interest in this being a collaborative
process, which is great, because the selector would ideally be a
"representative" who knows what their regions want rather than assuming it.

During the meeting when Suyash was selected, it was suggested that there
should be a later call to get the opinions of the other selector nominees
regarding his selection, and he welcomed the idea. I think this discussion
can be extended to a larger meeting to get feedback from the SAARC
communities about their preferences for selecting the Movement Charter
Drafting Committee future members.

If there is interest in this kind of discussion (it seems to me there is),
I believe it should be organized by the end of this week or early next week
so that Suyash can be well-informed before meeting with the other
selectors. I'm happy to provide support with setting things up.

All the best,
Abbad.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Announcement of SAARC Movement Charter selector and elections

2021-10-11 Thread Abbad Diraneyya
Hello,

Apologies for posting several times in the last few days.

Yesterday we held a meeting for the SAARC region regarding its selector.
The selector will represent the region when casting the affiliates vote for
choosing members of the Movement Charter Drafting Committee. The result

was
agreement on *User:Suyash.dwivedi* as the region's selector. Suyash will be
one among eight representatives of other regions who will take part on
behalf of affiliates.

Additionally, all of you, as Wikimedians, have the chance to cast your
votes in the *Drafting Committeee's elections* that will start in a few
hours and run until 24 October. Here's a link to the candidates page

(the
option for voting will appear there soon).

All the best,
Abbad.

[Wikimediaindia-l] Nominations for SAARC Movement Charter selector are open until 5 PM / 10 October

2021-10-09 Thread Abbad Diraneyya
Hello everyone,

Thank you to all of those who attended today's meeting to discuss the
selection process for the selector of the SAARC/South Asia region.

Based on the results of the discussion, you will have a chance to nominate
yourself as a selector

(or to encourage people from your affiliate/group to self-nominate!) until *5
PM on 10 October*, according to the local time *anywhere in the SAARC
region*.

*Anyone can self-nominate. *You're not obliged to be a representative of a
particular affiliate, although you'll need to be a member of one -
communities, on the other hand, will have a chance to participate in the
open elections that will start in a couple of days.

All the best,
Abbad.

[Wikimediaindia-l] South Asia's Selector for the Movement Charter Process

2021-10-08 Thread Abbad Diraneyya
Dear Wikimedians,

I am reaching out to you in regarding the Movement Charting Drafting
Committee
setup
and to have a selector on behalf of the South Asian region (SAARC).
Although the representatives of the region's affiliates have been notified
in advance, I would like, upon requests, to extend the information to the
community that the decision on the selector from South Asia should be made
by *10 October*.

In order to help make a decision, a meeting has been proposed on *October
9, 2021, *to be facilitated by Wikimedia Bangladesh, during which we hope
that decision will be reached. More details about the meeting and the
process are on the *SAARC selection page*

on Meta.

The chosen selector will be one of 9 selectors who will select, on behalf
of affiliates, six members of the Movement Charter Drafting Committee
.
The process is an opportunity to take part in choosing the members of the
committee, who will be responsible for writing a governance document that
is expected to be of much importance to affiliates and for the Wikimedia
Movement's future.

Please note that this announcement is regarding a process that is *limited
to Wikimedia affiliates (only local user groups and chapters*). The
wikiproject communities will be able to cast their votes for the Movement
Charter's Drafting Committee through a separate election process that will
open on 11 October.

Apologies if this information comes a bit late. Please feel free to share
around in the relevant spaces, and let me know if there's anything I can
help with.

All the best,
Abbad.
