[Wikimediaindia-l] Wikipedia - Cochrane Symposium
Dear All, I'm happy to share with you that '22nd Cochrane Colloquium', an annual celebration of Cochrane Collaboration is going to take place in Hyderabad this year. Cochrane Collaboration is an independent, non-for profit, international organisation. It helps provide evidence-based, relevant, systematic, up-to-date reviews to people on health which is widely referred by healthcare-professionals, patients and general public. Last year in the Colloquium, there were nearly 2000 scientists from around the world in Quebec where Cochrane and Wikipedia initiated a partnership to populate Wikipedia articles with evidence from Systematic Reviews. This partnership was initiated on the Wikipedia front by Dr. James and his team of Wiki Project Med Foundation. As a part of it there has been appointment of Sydney Poore as a Wikipedian-In-Residence. For more. The Colloquium is going to happen from 21st - 26th September this year. A Pre-colloquium Symposium 'Wikipedia and Cochrane' is planned on 21st Sept. Cochrane Collaboration has offered free entries for upto 50 Wikipedians to this session! Cochrane has also allotted two slots for Wikpedia Workshops in addition to a Wikipedia Booth during the colloquium. Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Wikimedia India Chapter: FDC Proposal Review Request
Hi All, I sense the budget is little beyond the line. I understand the tentative events planned will mean an aggressive growth plan, but do we have the resources to handle it? More so, can someone explain the status of our FCRA and how exactly is the fund routed into our account? An amount of this magnitude will need a reflection of our previous spend/ failing which we will attract unnecessary scrutiny. This will mean we will need to have full-time support staff - additional expense. For Wikimania, I support and wish to see a transparent call for interests and a due process for selection of travel/scholarship awards: more Indian representation at Wikimania is worthy and called for. For a national conference/4 regional conferences - I understand it will be an overstretch, it is best to have a single conference, through rotation in different cities every year to ensure good participation in the long run. Most of the attendees are volunteers, 5 conferences in total is a bit heavy on schedule. - Abhijith Jayanthi From: Ashwin Baindur ashwin.bain...@gmail.com To: Wikimedia India Community list wikimediaindia-l@lists.wikimedia.org Cc: Wikimedia Members List wmin-memb...@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, 24 September 2013 1:00 PM Subject: Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Wikimedia India Chapter: FDC Proposal Review Request There is a very serious amount of money being spent on bureaucratic necessities indeed very little on community activities. For example, why do 6 people need to go for Wikimania Chapters conference? You have asked for money for 3 regional 1 national conference. Does anyone actually believe that the Chapter has the wherewithal to organise/conduct 4 conferences in a year? Add to that x number of academies one devcamp. Plus a whopping Rs 6 lakhs for Wiki Loves India/Monuments. There are also a huge grey areas - Event Participation, Unspecified general events. The amt 150,000 $ is not at all small. This is an extravagant budget and needs pruning down in the issues mentioned above more allocation to activities communities. My suggestion is to keep it much smaller but doable. Such huge amts demanded without any clear cut idea of whats to happen will only lead to non-utilisation at best misuse at worst. Dont bite off more than you can chew! Even this fund allocation will prove miniscule when distributed for all the language communities. I strongly recommend to extend the budget proposal to make use of the full $200,000 that you proposed in your letter of intent and allocate a good budget for language communities and special interest groups. The huge amount of pictures and new users (from the top of my head, more than 2000 participants from India alone, ranking it with distance above all other countries) was unique, but also was the huge enthusiasm of those people. It clearly showed how proud Indians are of their cultural heritage. Of course this was perhaps best illustrated by having 2 (!) Indian pictures in the top-10 of the world best monument photos. For 2013, I hope that there will be another Indian contest, but that doesn't happen all by itself, for that your help is needed. Arnav and Karthik have requested your help (I'm not sure if you've seen it though), and I think that without some help, it would be very hard to organize the contest. I'm not 100% sure if the board of Wikimedia India has already committed itself to organizing the contest (and making available the necessary budget for prizes etc), but I'm confident that if there is enough enthusiasm, that will not be a big issue. So what do you say? Are you willing to help out organizing the Wiki Loves Monuments photo competition in 2013? Worl that needs to be done includes on-wiki work (tidying up the monument lists, adding information such as coordinates, categorizing and checking images as they come in etc - quite boring but you can do it whenever and where ever you like) but also a bit more organizational: setting procedures for judging, helping find suitable jury members, sponsors, translating the website and interfaces, doing some PR for the contest, finding government and NGO-partners for the contest in India etc. You have a wonderful base to work from, I sincerely hope some volunteers will pick up the challenge and beat last year's contribution! Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] why to donate
Guys, I understand this might be a serious issue, but I trust all India mailing list is definitely not the platform for discussion. Please continue this conversation privately, also - wanted to check on couple of points: (1) Do we have a policy of permitted issues to be discussed over the all India Mailing list - if not, there is a necessity to work on it. (2) Disclosures and grievance handling procedures should be shared with each member upon joining and the mechanism should be followed. Again, pointing fingers or rephrasing the issue itself is not the solution - we will have to move beyond the question to get the answer. - abhijith From: Srikanth Ramakrishnan srik.r...@wikimedia.in To: Wikimedia India Community list wikimediaindia-l@lists.wikimedia.org Sent: Tuesday, 12 February 2013 11:31 PM Subject: Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] why to donate Membership under processing is differnt from memvership alreadt processed.
