Re: [Wikimediauk-l] Polish becomes England's second language
To give a sense of scale until someone finds more accurate data, according to http://stats.wikimedia.org/wikimedia/squids/SquidReportPageEditsPerCountryBreakdown.htm and http://stats.wikimedia.org/wikimedia/squids/SquidReportPageViewsPerCountryBreakdown.htm 94% of edits from the UK are on the English Wikipedia, and 6% to the other languages; and about the same is true for readers. Also, according to: http://stats.wikimedia.org/wikimedia/squids/SquidReportPageEditsPerLanguageBreakdown.htm , http://stats.wikimedia.org/wikimedia/squids/SquidReportPageViewsPerLanguageBreakdown.htm 2% of edits to the Polish Wikipedia come from the UK, and about 1.5% of the readers; if I read the page right. Re: [Wikimediauk-l] Verifying membership applications - Suggestions and comments
Sorry to chime in from outside, but why is checking the address so important? How many people in the UK do not have some form of government ID (passport, drivers licence, etc., I know the UK is not big on ID cards)? By the way, Couchsurfing has a friendly way of verifying addresses: they send you a postcard (that can be recycled as stickers) with a unique code that you need to type in on the website. Re: [Wikimediauk-l] Mobile uk.wikimedia.org still failing
I think this issue affects all *.wikimedia.org addresses (at least the ones of chapters hosted by the WMF); a workaround is to change the user-agent setting in your mobile browser, if possible. Re: [Wikimediauk-l] Wikimedia UK report - June 2012
Hi Stevie, Thank you for this report! Would you be able to share a bit more about the train the trainers event's outcomes, and the overall goal of it? (The linked page seems to be written in a future tense, and I admit, I got a bit confused at times when "trainer" was used more than 3-4 times in the same sentence... Who were the external consultants involved in this workshop? How many people did end up going out of the ones who signed up? What is the status and future plans with the syllabus that was meant as an outcome?) And a minor point, your developer would be working among other things on your "event organisation systems". Would you be able to describe a bit what systems you use or would like to use, and what kind of experience you have with them (they are obviously not perfect yet if you need a developer)?
