Re: [Wikimediauk-l] Phorm opt-out for wikimedia.org.uk?
A number of other chapters have already opted out. I would be very surprised if WMUK didn't, although I'm still unconvinced that opting out will actually do anything... It'd delight me to see all chapters plus the WMF ensure they're opted out, just to say 'no' to cooperating with a surveillence scheme for advertising. I'd also say a release was needed on the issue. Anyone from chapcom here who wants to chip in and say how the others would go? even if purely symbolic, I'd even opt out wikipedia.de - and then hit the press with it. if all the WMF sites opt out too then that is newsworthy enough for a press release. [Wikimediauk-l] Phorm opt-out for wikimedia.org.uk?
Has James sent a Phorm opt-out email for wikimedia.org.uk yet? I ask because wm.de and wm.fr have just opted out too. The canonical web address is now http://uk.wikimedia.org , but opting out provides a nice public message. For publicity purposes, I'd suggest the Board agree it should be opted out and James send the actual message (since he's still registered contact). - d. ___ Wikimedia UK mailing list wikimediau...@wikimedia.org http://mail.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediauk-l WMUK: http://uk.wikimedia.org

We’ve yet to have a firm decision from many of these sites – Facebook, MSN, Google, Youtube, AOL, Yahoo, Amazon and Ebay. But others, including several major sites, have already agreed to block Phorm. Find out more about this on the blog next week. Right now, we need to pile on the pressure. Once sites start blocking Phorm, more people will understand that the concerns are real, and Phorm can be stopped. == Take Action == 1 If you’re on Facebook, join the group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=56045061126 2 Blog about it!
