Hello everyone,

The Community Tech team[1] has released a new feature: Enhanced Password
Reset[2]. We developed this feature in response to the #3 wish[3] from the 2019
Community Wishlist Survey[4]. With this feature, you can prevent password
reset emails from being sent unless both your username and email address
are provided on Special:PasswordReset. This is an optional feature,
available in the “Email options” section of Preferences. If you enable the
feature, you can reduce harassment through unsolicited password reset
emails. For more information, you can visit the Help:Password Reset page[5]
and the project page[6].

Thank you,

Ilana Fried

Hello Everyone,

It is with great pride I would like to share great news with the community.
We did Proofreading contest in Punjabi Wikisource from 21 December 2018 -
31 January 2019 and we have record breaking results.

Starting from 300 proofread pages per month with only about 4-5 editors,
and almost 0 editors with 50+ editors in October, we only had 1269 pages
proofread since past 2 years.

After the contest, we now have community of 24 editors with 50+ edits and
35 participants that joined us via outreach programs and workshops . We
were able to get 5100+ pages proofread in 40 days, making us the fastest
and the most active Wikisource community in India. And as per the latest
stats, we are also the fastest growing Wikisource community globally in
terms of growth and third most active community in terms of pages proofread
after 40 days of the contest. We will continue to validate the proofread
pages from the contest in the next couple months to maintain quality and
reliability.

We hope we can continue to grow and advance the mission of free knowledge
from Punjabi Community.

Dear all,

the Advanced Search interface will soon become a default feature on
all wikis. Its deployment is planned for November 28.
The feature adds an advanced parameter form to the Special:Search page
in order to make already existing advanced search options such as
"intitle" or "subpageof" more visible and accessible for everyone. It
also changes the way namespaces can be selected.

We want to announce the upcoming deployment on village pumps with this
short message:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Johanna_Strodt_(WMDE)/Advanced_Search_Deployment_everywhere

The feature has already been deployed to deWP, arWP, faWP and huWP, so
we're now looking for translations in other languages.

We're planning to publish the message on Monday, Nov 26, around 11 am
UTC. Therefore it would be great to have the translations ready by
Monday November 26, 7 am UTC.

Thanks a lot. Any support is very appreciated!
Johanna

Hi folks,

The open call for Project Grants is officially underway! As you prepare
your proposals this month, please keep in mind that the final deadline is
November 30th, and that this will be only the only open call for Project
Grants during this fiscal year, which ends on June 30th, 2019. To learn
more about this grant program and how to prepare an application, please
visit our landing page on Meta. <
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project>

In addition to the resources mentioned in the prior announcement, we have
scheduled some proposal clinics where applicants will be able to discuss
their proposals or ask questions with Wikimedia Foundation staff using
Google Meet or using IRC. Some of these will be themed toward specific
topics (such as proposals involving a GLAM-related project), and others
will be more general. For a list of scheduled proposal clinics, please
review the Project Grants landing page on Meta. <
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project#Upcoming_events>. Additional
clinics may be added throughout the month.

Thanks,

Chris

That sounds like a database query that should be possible. I'm not familiar
enough with the syntax to write such a query myself, but if no one else on
this list offers a suggestion, then I suggest you ask on the Research
mailing list or in the #wikimedia-research channel on Freenode IRC.

Good luck,

I imagine that you can use the API to get such a list, although doing that
is beyond my current competence level. Perhaps there are other ways as
well. If you're interested in using the API, you might ask on the Research

Re: [Wikisource-l] Wikisource for Alaska Native Elder stories?

2016-02-24 Thread Pine W
Hi Nicolas,

I am guessing that the languages will be in Alaska Native languages
primarily, perhaps with some alternative translations in English.

My guess is that there will be a mix of oral stories with stories that are
represented in images like totem poles
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totem_pole>.

Would you have some time on Sunday when we could meet? I can message you
off-list to set up a time.

2016-02-23 Thread Pine W
Hi Wikisourcers,

We in Cascadia Wikimedians have been contacted regarding the topic of
Wikimedia resources that could be used to host materials related to Alaska
Native Elder stories. I'm familiar with Wikisource largely from what I've
heard about it. I've only made one edit. Is there an experienced
Wikisourcer who might be available for me to meet with via IRC or Hangouts
sometime, so that I can get familiar with the basics and provide
appropriate guidance regarding the possibility of uploading Alaska Native
Elder stories to Wikisource?

Thanks!
