 edit box.

Haha, yep, that's obviously what's going to happen to current editors with
any new interface as radical as this ;)

Perhaps an image at the top, showing a sentence with a mouse cursor
hovering above it, accompanied with click on a sentence to edit it
would help?

[Wikitech-l] Wikipedias with old logo

2011-01-27 Thread Amir E. Aharoni
There are still some Wikipedia projects with the old logo, for example
http://rw.wikipedia.org .

Can someone create a list of such projects? I could go manually over
nearly 300 of them and check it, but there's probably an automatic way
to it.

Thank you.

[Wikitech-l] OT: Sunday in San Francisco

2011-01-27 Thread Daniel Kinzler
Hi all!

I'm coming to San Franscisco to spend a couple of days at the Wikimedia Office
on Feb 7/8. But before that, I have a weekend to spend in SF... well, I might
already have something for Saturday, but Sunday is still free.

So... any recommendations what to do and see? where to hang out in the evening?
I'd like to see a bit more than the office and the hotel, and I'm not so much
for the touristy stuff...

ideas?

We have found few bugs and enhancements to be reported.
What is the appropriate component for this project.
 https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=MediaWiki%20extensions
I cannot locate InlineEditor. Inline scripts if the correct component?

Ah, looking forward to see what you've come up with! Like Roan and Chad
said, the InlineEditor component is now in the list, so you can add bugs
 there.

Hi Jan
Few bugs and a enchantement are reported.
We will continue with bit of boundary testing.

Is it a good idea to keep a track of enhancements/bugsposted by others?
I mean recording them in Bugzilla

Thanks

Have you seen http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Visiting_San_Francisco ?

If you like doing hikes, you can do what I did last Saturday and walk
the Land's End Trail. It's about a 3km hike, which you can extend by
going back on the El Camino Del Mar Trail via the Legion of Honor,
and/or by visiting Sutro Heights Park, and/or by continuing into the
Presidio toward the Golden Gate Bridge. If you're in the SoMa area
(where the office is), take bus 38L to Geary 48th. The trail starts
near the parking lot at Point Lobos Ave.

Another fun thing to do is get lost in Golden Gate Park, which is a
huge (roughly 7x1 km) park in the middle of the city. Lots of cool
stuff there, and lots of bike rental places around the edge of the
park.

I'm in town until next Thursday, so we can hang out if you like.
Sunday is my 20th birthday, and, if you feel up to it, you'd be
welcome to join the celebrations.

I think that might have been copied from elsewhere for a specific
event. The part
near the end about having breakfast and lunch provided? Awesome, but I don't
think they're giving everyone who comes to SF free food ;-)

Surely it should. In a very similar manner, I've had a trouble with
local MediaWiki installation (old 1.14, haven't checked with newer
ones), when I've created user accounts and sent these via the email,
people were unable to login, because when you select a text line using a
mouse, Thunderbird mail sometimes copies line feed character into
clipboard, so it was pasted into the password field then and the
password didn't match. Users were frustrated. I've explained them that
line feed is being placed into the clipboard which is visible when you
paste it into the text editor. I am unsure which browser they have been
used, maybe some browsers strip 13 / 10 from text inputs, maybe don't.

HTML5 specifies that they should, for passwords:

User agents must not allow users to insert U+000A LINE FEED (LF) or
U+000D CARRIAGE RETURN (CR) characters into the value.
http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/states-of-the-type-attribute.html#password-state

The value sanitization algorithm also makes sure this holds for
default values and script-inserted values.

If only!

Would it be worth giving this page a quick hack to make it a general
visitors guide / pointer to good visitors guides? Considering how many
visitors the WMF office gets, it would probably be a good idea :)
