[Wikitech-l] Missing $wgUseVFormUserLogin ??

2014-04-22 Thread Daniel Renfro
Cheers wikitech-l,

Whilst upgrading to 1.22.5 from 1.21.8 I came across $wgUseVFormUserLogin [1].
Form what I can tell this global directive is completely missing from core. The
docs on mw.org say it's in 1.22+, but I can't find any record of this setting.
I also searched the mailing list archives (both mediawiki-l and wikitech-l) and
found nothing.

I would like to disable the new login form (for legacy reasons, not because I
don't think it's sexy.) Is there some other way?

It's not a typo and the app team has been around for quite a bit now working on

* Wikipedia App (PhoneGap)
* Commons App
* Wiki Loves Monuments App (2013)

and is currently focused on a native Wikipedia app. Come say hello on

[Wikitech-l] New wikibugs bot

2014-04-22 Thread Merlijn van Deen
Hello all,

As the original wikibugs bot did not come back online today, the tasks of
wikibugs have now fully been taken over by a python re-implementation of
the same bot, running on Tool Labs.

A few improvements over the old bot:

 - running on Tool Labs instead of the WMF mail server, so
community-maintainable,
 - messages to multiple channels based on bug properties (e.g. product and
component)
 - several minor improvements:
-> shows changes instead of the new situation
   -> adds first line-or-so of a comment,
-> shows product and component for each message,
-> better URLs (with anchor to the specific comment),
-> real names are now *always* used (they are retrieved from BZ if the
mail does not list them).

Source code is available at https://github.com/valhallasw/pywikibugs

Comments, suggestions for improvements and pull requests are, as always,
very welcome.

Looks good. Maybe release it to PyPI too?

Also, instead of executing stuff via subprocess why not use a
Git API module, and a Gerrit API module ?
Those are available on PyPI.

[Wikitech-l] GerritCommandLine update

2014-04-22 Thread Jon Robson
I've recently updated the GerritCommandLine tool [1] so that you can
use it to manage incoming reviews.

gerrit.py --reviewee jdlrobson --gtscore -1
Will show all patches across all projects that have you down as a
reviewee and are currently not negatively reviewed.

There are various other helpful filters. e.g. only show patches that
have been open over X days, run it on a given repository via project.

If you are having trouble not knowing what to review or what needs
review give it a go!

Thoughts and patches welcomed!

I don't quite understand your question, sorry. I'm talking about adding
fields to TemplateData which VisualEditor uses to build a user interface
around templates. TemplateData is defined on-wiki as a JSON blob.

[Wikitech-l] Welcome Dmitry Brant as Software Developer to the Mobile App Team

2014-04-22 Thread Tomasz Finc
I am pleased to announce that Dmitry Brant joins WMF this week as a
Software Engineer for the Mobile App Team!

Dmitry will be working remotely from Cleveland, OH, where he has lived
ever since immigrating from Moscow, Russia many years ago. He joins
the Wikimedia Foundation coming from a previous life in speech
recognition software for use in military robots, UGVs, and medical
devices, and an even earlier life in software for controlling welding
equipment and industrial robotic cells.

Dmitry believes passionately in WMF's mission, and is excited to help
enhance the Wikipedia user experience on mobile platforms.

In his spare time he creates software for digital forensics and data
recovery [1]. In his other spare time, he's an avid guitar player,
blogger, and mushroom forager.

Dmitry will work closely with Yuvi to further enhance the user

Re: [Wikitech-l] VisualEditor template editing interface

2014-04-22 Thread Trevor Parscal
We are introducing recommended fields which will be automatically added
when the template is added. We already support required fields which are
automatically added, but we are adding recommended fields so that required
can be reserved for actually required fields. In time, we expect required
will be enforced as well, but are still researching the impact of that.

[Wikitech-l] VisualEditor template editing interface

2014-04-22 Thread Yury Katkov
Hi everyone!

I'm using VisualEditor and TemplateData to insert template calls in
the wiki page. My users find it prerrty hard to understand the Add a
template Dialog: you should first find a template, then add all its
fields to the call and only after that place some value in each of the
fields. Is it possible to automatically add all the fields to the
template call once the template is selected?

Cheers,

Re: [Wikitech-l] Callback for mw.toolbar.addButton() executes on edit view load instead of on click

2014-04-22 Thread Erwin Dokter

I've tried setting the callback to 'removeDuplicateLinks',
removeDuplicateLinks, and I've even tried turning it into an anonymous

Am I misusing syntax, here?

I have tried finding where mw.toolbar.addButton is defined, and closest
I got is .../mediawiki.action.edit.js. It does not have a callback
parameter, so I'm not even sure I have the right one. I may be woefully
wrong... please point me to the right source file and doc page... This
is truly frustrating!

What I *suspect* you are doing wrong is... using the 'callback:'
parameter. I think this is the addButton's function callback. It stands
to reason that it would be executed once the addButton function has done
its work.

From what I have been able to discern from the badly organized
documentation (again, I may be totally misguided), is that you want to
use the 'action:' parameter instead.

Use the action=setnotificationtimestamp API to mark your own talk page
 as 'visited'.
