[Wikitech-l] MediaWiki 1.35 Branch Cut and Release

2020-06-02 Thread Cindy Cicalese
On March 30, we announced that we were temporarily pushing back the release
of MediaWiki 1.35 due to uncertainty resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are now ready to begin the process of moving forward with the release.

The first step is cutting the release branch, REL1_35, which will occur on
Monday, July 13.

We will then be in "pencils down" mode: developers will stop targeting
MediaWiki 1.35 for new features. Instead, any new features would continue
to be applied to master and would target MediaWiki 1.36 or later. The only
work that would continue towards MediaWIki 1.35 would be blockers -
critical bug fixes or features close to completion that need to make it
into the release. This would happen by merging those patches into master
and then backporting them to the REL1_35 branch.

We anticipate that MediaWiki 1.35 will be released at the beginning of
August.

We appreciate your patience in these difficult times. Wishing you safety
and health,

Cindy

[Wikitech-l] Subject: New train branch time: Tuesday 02:00UTC

2020-06-02 Thread Mukunda Modell
The Branch cut for our weekly MediaWiki release train is moving to full
automation, starting with 1.35.0-wmf.37[0] at 02:00 UTC, next Tuesday, June
16th 2020.

This is a slight change to the branch cut timing which usually happens at
approximately 17:00 UTC on Tuesdays. Previously, this was at the discretion
of the train deployer and will instead be at a deterministic time going
forward.

If you have concerns about the timing of the branch cut, there is a
Phabricator Task[1] for that discussion. There is still flexibility in the
timing of the branch cut and we will consider further feedback as we fine
tune this process to best suit the needs of everyone involved.

[Wikitech-l] How do you use Wikibase and how can we support you?

2020-06-02 Thread Mohammed Sadat Abdulai
*Apologies for cross-posting!*

Wikimedia Deutschland is interested in having an overview of what’s
happening with Wikibase users and thus, we are running a survey to learn
how we can advance engagement between the software development team
and the people
who are using or are considering using Wikibase.

If you would like to participate, please use this link
 (Google Forms, estimated fill-in time
6min). If you don’t want to use Google Forms, you can also send me a
private email with your answers. We would love to get as many answers as
possible before Saturday, June 6th.

The participation is anonymous and there are no required answers. The data
will only be shared in an aggregated form.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me directly.

Cheers,
