Re: [Wikitech-l] pageview dumps for 2020-09?

2020-10-06 Thread Gabriel Altay
Thanks for the quick reply Dan! I don't want to create any extra work for
you or your team. I can use something else for this month. I would be
interested in getting some info on the new format and distribution channels
whenever you are ready.
best,
-Gabriel

Re: [Wikitech-l] pageview dumps for 2020-09?

2020-10-06 Thread Dan Andreescu
Hi Gabriel,

My team maintains this dataset. We have been working on a new version
which will deprecate all other pagecount and pageview datasets. Release of
this new dataset is imminent. When we saw the old job failed, we couldn't
fix the problem quickly and have been thinking maybe it isn't worth the
effort since the new data is coming out soon.

However, if you have an immediate need, do let us know. So, in other
words, if you can wait a week or two and tweak your scripts to work with
the new data, that would probably be best. Otherwise, let us know and we
can look at the failure more closely.

[Wikitech-l] pageview dumps for 2020-09?

2020-10-06 Thread Gabriel Altay
Apologies if this is the wrong list, but it appears that the page views
dumps for september were stalled on the 24th

https://dumps.wikimedia.org/other/pagecounts-ez/merged/2020/2020-09/

and the full month dump (pagecounts-2020-09-views-ge-5-totals.bz2) was not
generated,
https://dumps.wikimedia.org/other/pagecounts-ez/merged/

does anyone know what the situation is?

best,
-Gabriel

[Wikitech-l] cloud-vps vulnerability discovered -- please check project membership

2020-10-06 Thread Andrew Bogott
Earlier today a vulnerability was uncovered that might have permitted
unauthorized users to manipulate project membership or create or delete
VMs within cloud-vps. That issue has since been resolved, and there is
currently no evidence that anyone exploited it.

Nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution: if you are a project
admin, please review the members and projectadmins of your project. If
you see any unknown or untrusted users or unexpected instances, remove
them and notify me directly about what you found and what you've done.

Thank you!

-Andrew + the WMCS team

Re: [Wikitech-l] Public API for Wikimedia map tiles to be discontinued in 45 days [crosspost from Maps-l] [final warning]

2020-10-06 Thread Erica Litrenta
Hi everyone,

Just a reminder that deprecation of the Maps API for third party referrers
happens next week. If you are using that API on a non-Wikimedia hosted
website for a Wikimedia affiliate or an established wikiproject, please
comment as soon as possible on Phabricator [1] linking to your domain and
providing an example of your usage of maps.

We appreciate your patience as this is our first step towards making maps a
reliable and consistent experience for contributors and readers, and we'll
share more about our plans in the next weeks.

[Wikitech-l] TechCom meeting 2020-10-06

2020-10-06 Thread Giuseppe Lavagetto
This is the weekly TechCom board review in preparation of our meeting on
Wednesday. If there are additional topics for TechCom to review, please let
us know by replying to this email. However, please keep discussion about
individual RFCs to the Phabricator tickets.

Activity since Monday 2020-09-28 on the following boards:

https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/techcom/

https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/techcom-rfc/

Committee inbox:

   -

   T264334 : Could the
registered module manifest be removed from the client?
   -

New task about the possibility of removing the huge module registry
from the js sent to the client. The idea is being discussed.

Committee board activity: Nothing to report, besides inbox

New RFCs: none.

Phase progression:

   -

   T262946 : Bump Firefox
version in basic support to 3.6 or newer
   -

  Moves to P3 (explore)
  -

It is pointed out that we’ve dropped support in production for TLS
1.0/1.1 in january, so de facto only Firefox 27+ is able to
connect to the
  wikimedia sites
  -

In light of that, it’s suggested that we might bump the minimum
  supported versions of browsers further.

IRC meeting request: none

Other RFC activity:

   -

   T260714 : Parsoid Extension
   API.
   -

Last call to be approved, that will end on October 7 (tomorrow)
  -

   T487 : RfC: Associated
   namespaces.
   -

On last call to be declined, there is some opposition to the
opportunity of marking it as declined on phabricator. Last call
should end
  on October 7 (tomorrow)
  -

   T263841 : RFC: Expand API
title generator to support other generated data.
   -

Erik asks if this is going to be generally applied to all generators
  or not.

Cheers,
Giuseppe
