How much do you want to reuse? :)

We are still in need of 2-3 volunteers to drive the schedule. I don't

Mark, would you like to volunteer providing the MediaWiki-not-Wikimedia

 What about other perspectives?

Come on, it is a good chance to step in and do some good.

[Wikitech-l] Amsterdam hackathon workshops

2013-05-10 Thread Finne Boonen
For all Amsterdam hackathon attendees

We've made a first draft of the programme for the Amsterdam Hackathon. We
have room for 6 workshops which will be run twice over the course of the
Hackathon.

Which topics should we cover in them? Based on your motivations, we've made
a list of the top 8 topics that seem to be of interest. Please take a look
at the page and let us know which topics you'd be most interested in:
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Amsterdam_Hackathon_2013/Topics

For some of these workshops we're still looking for presenters. Are you
interested? Let us know! (hackat...@wikimedia.nl)

Think you could fill a 1h (interactive) workshop for one of these topics,
but you're not sure? I'll help you create a workshop and help you practice
beforehand.

 Dear All,

FOSDEM is nearing and it is promising to become awesome again.

Like last year, we will provide two 'community meeting rooms' (formerly
 called BoF rooms).

The concept is simple: any project/community can reserve a timeslot (15
minutes to an hour), during which they have the room just for them.

It is meant for ad-hoc discussions, meet-ups or brainstorms. It is not a
replacement for a devroom and it certainly is not meant for talks, so there
will deliberately not be a projector. The rooms are cosy and small with
 around 30ish seats.

Reservation can only be done on site and *during FOSDEM*. The reservation
sheets are at the infodesk in the H building. The rooms are not far from
that infodesk. Reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

My talk[1] is on Saturday after lunch, I plan to spend the most of Saturday

For starters, my jetlag and me will be at https://fosdem.org/2013/**

  Friday evening.

+1. I should arrive to Brussels at 5:30pm. I will go to the hotel and then
to the beer event. If anybody else arrives to Brussels around 5:30, we can
go to the hotel together. My theory is that traveling in group increases
chances of arriving to the destination.

I guess we are all at the same hotel (NH Grand Place Arenberg). We can even
go to the event together. Depending on how fast I get to the hotel I could
go to the event around 7-8pm.

No, just that it might not be the easiest place to meet up with people due
to the crowd. It waxes and wanes and it's perfectly fine if you like
crowds/are there early. Otherwise if you're looking for a meetup for MW

+1000. I 3 that way of thinking and I'd very much like our community
to have the same attitude towards GSoC. We're a community working

 organization is a right fit.

Agreed.

GSoC imho is not about getting code written but getting people
involved in our community. As such we should look and see how many
people remain involved after GSoC.

was quite a bit of work to get the firehose of data in such a form as
not to melt the receiving server trying to process it.

OK, then the problem becomes: how to set up something like
stats.grok.se feasibly internally for all the other data gathered from
a hit? (Modulo stuff that needs to be blanked per privacy policy.)

What exactly are people looking for that isn't available from
 stats.grok.se that isn't a privacy concern?

I had assumed that people kept installing these bugs because they
wanted source network break downs per-article and other clear privacy
 violations.

On top of views/page
I'd be interested in keywords used, entryexit points, path analysis
when people are editing (do they save/leave/try to find help/...)
#edit starts, #submitted edits that don't get saved.

only 2GB (presumably, the first 2GB) of what I have sought to download
has actually been downloaded.  Is there anyway around this?  Could
anyone possibly suggest what possible reasons there might be for this
 difficulty in downloading the material?

Downloading to a filesystem that only does maximum 2GB files?

Also, several http clients don't like files over 2GB - this is because the
 large
number of bytes in the Length field causes an integer overflow (2GB is the 31
bit limit). wget likes to die with a segmentation fault on those. I found that
 curl works.

But of course, the file system also has to support very large files, as
 Gerard said.

Finally: yes, it would be nive to have such dumps available in pieces of
 perhaps
 1GB in size.
