For one, I'd prefer to keep the this discussion on the web-admin list, so
that Wine development doesn't get crowded out by administrivia. (I just
added you Andreas, and anyone else interested should read the CVS
commit info on winehq.com/dev.html and mail me privately.)

One of the problems is that we're inside Corel's firewall. This is bad
from everyone's point of view (they are exposed to our incompetence /
malfeasance, we are exposed to their firewall breakage, etc.) and it's
being fixed. Once that's done it should be possible to be much more open.

OK, let's stop bitchin' and flamin' now and let's get back to work ;-)

So what to do ?

Is there somebody who could help with setting up e.g. mailman (I'm NOT yet
convinced that this is the best alternative - I don't have any idea)
instead of Majordomo ?

Unfortunately Langley Rock seems to be pretty much out of reach.
At least two mails didn't get through...

I'd try to read about ML managers in my spare time and perhaps set it up
or perhaps help in case help is needed or something.

What exactly are we going to do ?

I know nothing about but Majordomo but if what Uwe suspects is true,
I'm against it as well. Things like this should only happend in the
event of hardware failure IMNSHO. This the second time in only
a few months.

Hoe exactly is Majordomo implicated in this? If delivery is slow, it is
the MTA's fault because Majordomo does not do delivery. If messages are
being refused, it is the MTA's fault because Majordomo does not accept
messages.

Majordomo is a thin and simple layer and it relies on the MTA to do
essentially all of the work (which is a good idea in general, because MTAs
are supposed to be good at things like delivering mail). If someone has
decided to run Sendmail and expects it to deliver quickly or stand up to
high load then you have the culprit.

Blame Majordomo for what's wrong with it, but don't blame it for things
that have nothing to do with it.

If the missing wine-cvs mails for the recent CVS commits are caused by
majordomo, count me as another member of the Wine-Developers Movement
Against Majordomo.

Most probably yes.
At least there is some room for improvement.

Hmm, I probably should have done more on the mailing list side before :-\
But time is a somewhat limited resource, I'm afraid.
(I've been doing a comprehensive content check and update of WWW-WineHQ,
though)

Hey, shouldn't we organize the Wine-Developers Movement Against Majordomo?
Let me see if I can remember some of the people I know don't like majordomo:
- myself
- Dimitrie O. Paun
- Jutta Wrage
- Peter Hunnisett
- David Elliott
- Andreas Mohr

(anyone I forgot?)

Compare with the people I know like majordomo:
- none

There are not only political reasons for not using the non-free package
majordomo, there are also superior free packages that all list subscribers
would be much more comfortable being subjected to, and that would appear
less prone to losing subscriptions and bouncing and losing mail the way it
does now.

I've noticed that the wine-devel has gone very slow. In fact, wine2.winehq.com
has ben refusing connections and the backup mailserver at Corel has been
bouncing messages for no obvious reason.

I don't know whether this helps
