There is a difference on wether you use Rigid or EMT type pipe. Rigid pipe is of course thicker, heavier, and stronger. However, we often use EMT, because its lighter and cheaper. The 2-3/8 dia pipe is not just for stability at heights, but also to have a larger surface for clamps, to prevent left-right rotation of the antenna. We will be approx 30 miles east of the Eye which means we'll catch the brundt of the storm I am 13 miles inland but know we will lose all services as we usually do during a storm. I am in need of 10 VOIP ATA Devices to provide emergency services locally after the storm passes. I have sent my family out of the area and will have some MPEG4 streaming cams running during the storm. Rick Harnish / John Scrivner / Mac Dearman - can you help ? OK, so we should plan on being able to stage people and stuff there? 30 miles might be close enough that you'll have no water or power or much of anything else if the gusts keep topping 200mph. Who's got alternate locations? Also, for any potential staging areas how about some gps coordinates? I'm guessing streets will be hard to find. I don't think I can make it down. We did too much new stuff this year and I can't take care of myself right now. If it's really bad I can try though. Hopefully there will be people from the region that can make it in. [WISPA] FW: Hurricane Rita - Please Circulate to your ISPs
Please circulate this to your ISPs. The FCC is preparing for Hurricane Rita. The FCC has well established procedures for assessing telecommunications outages and facilitating restoration. This is true of broadcast, spectrum, and satellite. Of course our procedures for assessing and facilitating internet services are not as formal. If members of TISPA or other Texas ISPs need to contact the FCC, please consider me the point of contact. We may be able to facilitate resource needs. This could include working with FEMA in order to get necessary authority, negotiate fuel deliveries, coordinate telecommunications restorations for critical circuits... Perhaps individual Texas ISPs will not be impacted, but they want to be part of the restoration effort. We can help coordinate that. If your members might also be able to tell me assessment information. If they have a network status page online, I would appreciate knowing its URL. If there are other network problems that perhaps we could help resolve, let us know. Good luck. Re: [WISPA] Rita
There are about 100 or so unrelated group efforts (none any more powerful or better than the other) all doing fine in bringing immediate access to technology and communications without having Part-15 speak for them in the gulf area and without any firm structural centralized management so it really does not make any difference to me one way or the other whether Part-15 is involved in this with us or not. I think Part-15 is doing really good things. I know we are too. That does not mean we have to answer to them for every step or run anything past them before we act. Nor does it mean I have issues working with them directly on helping. I applaud their efforts along with the other 99 or so groups helping out down there. If it helps then do it. Long story shortif you want to mesh with Part-15 then go right ahead. I am not telling you or anyone else what to do to help. We are all adults and can help however, whenever, with whoever we see fit. As long as you are helping then that is good. Scriv Mark Koskenmaki wrote: How does all this mesh with the P-15 people? The 1st time I drove in I had to stop on side of the road as my eyes filled up and got a limp in my throat. It was pretty evident that I wasnt ready to be there!! They tell me I need to ride down to the coast line and check it out and I asked them (knowing the answer) if it was worse and they stated that I hadnt seen anything yet. I havent had time just to ride and look as the days arent long enough to do what needs to be accomplished as it is. That would be great and I will be the first to adopt a family - - -you have my word. Headed back to the bay this morning. MCI has a DS3 in GulfPort for us and we started hanging gear yesterday. MCI said use their gear, but someone hasnt done their homework because I know that it is a 18 mile shot in 5.8 - - - - about a 70' fresnel zone, 125' on one end and 85' on the other. EV1 handles literally about 2% of the total web traffic on planet earth. They have redundant grid connections and dual backup generation facilities. I do not think we will lose them. I hope not anyway! It is just an option. If they do not make it then we will have to look elsewhere I guess. Koree Smith, my previous Sysadmin, is working there in Houston and he says we should be able to get as much bandwidth as we need there. It is a massive data center with multiple fiber backbones into the location. They also have redundant power systems in place. They will not go down. It is a long distance from there to the proposed affected areas but it is at least an option we have if needed.
