Re: [WISPA] Ground client radio???

2008-05-06 Thread Blair Davis
My fix for this type of problem was to start using shielded cat5 with
built in drain wire.

Hook the drain wire at the radio ground, and at the other end bond the
drain wire to an earth ground.

This stops the surges from ever getting into the wire. I have not lost
an Ethernet port since I did this, even in a location that had killed 5
Ethernet cards before...

Hope this helps...

Re: [WISPA] Ground client radio???

2008-05-06 Thread Scott Reed
Since all you need is to bleed off the induced current, my normal way is
to run 12AWG from the radio to the electrical ground rod. This has
stopped a similar issue on a couple of radios for me.

[WISPA] Ground client radio???

2008-05-06 Thread Kurt Fankhauser
I've got a problem client radio that almost always needs attention after a
lightning storm. It is mounted with a gable mount on an eve so the radio
itself is not physically grounded which I think is where my problem is
coming from. The cat5 wire is grounded with a tranzeo POE ground lead but
that is not stopping the surges. I've got a RB532 board which has lost 3
ethernet ports due to surges on the POE line even while using the tranzeo
POE's ground. Now I have never lost a radio at this location but I have lost
3 ethernet ports and 2 POE injectos. This last time around the radio
actually defaulted back to factory defaults. Radio is a TR-5a-21. Now I
suspect that if this radio was mounted to a TV tower and not the eve that I
would not be having these problems since it would naturally be grounded.
Anyone have any ideas on what I need to do to get this thing grounded. How
heavy of guage do I need?

[WISPA] Gemini troubles

I'm having a problem with my Orthogon Gemini where the Ethernet interface locks
up from time to time. The only way to cure it is to reboot the Gemini. The
Mikrotik it is plugged into says the interface is still up, but it won't pass
traffic until a reboot.
