I pay around 300 for an AP (faster motherboard and a UBNT card is why)
but 220 for a CPE. These are MT.

I would be willing to pay the extra for the AP (I've a pretty dense CPE

for me. I have places that I could easily put 120 customer per AP and I
have 2 towers with more than 200 customer each on them spread across

doesn't talk to anything wifi? Doesn't sound too good to me.

The $200.00 cpe isn't as much the attraction as the $200.00 or less AP.

That's hard to swallow adding $1k + per ap. I have 100's of ap's. I put

It's the only reason I don't go proprietary is the affordable ap.

Re: [WISPA] tranzeo's web site?

2008-12-22 Thread Josh Luthman
I know I could agree with no compatibility problems while using MT at
both ends, however you still run into MT-only problems or limits.

While this isn't directly WISP related, using RouterOD you are limited
to one partition for everything. With Dude runnig there you (at this
time) can't backup with a 128mb disk/storage device. I would expect
256MB to work, however I can't vouche.

Yes, they should open every box and use software that is only compatible
with Windows NT4 testing every media capable of holding more then 1KB
(1024bytes).

No equipment will be provided by RIAA, however a $99/mo inconvenience
fee may apply if a) the moon is in waxing gibbous b) your initials
include A and Z and c) you sit on hold for no less then three (3) hours
when requesting this.

Point being - this is simply ridiculous. It is not the ISPs job to
monitor the customer's actions, it is not the road's fault for the
driver's car accident and it is not FedEx's job to check every single
package for contents that another company doesn't like, especially
without serious compensation for the increased overhead.

Re: [WISPA] tranzeo's web site?

2008-12-22 Thread Steve Barnes
Other way around (from what was stated from MT) Tranzeo did not follow
all the 802.11 protocol to the letter. Mikrotik in 3.15 came up with a
work around. I have 3.16 on 4 towers so far and works great with
Tranzeo. One has 40 Clients and some of them have been up for 45 days
without a reboot.

My wish is that there was a standard where the Device name in Tranzeo
units would show up as the radio name on MT AP's. Guess that is what
you get with different vendors.

support.tranzeo.com is back up now.

Marlon,

I thought the Tranzeo/MT problem was a Mikrotik issue, fixed by their
update. (Tranzeo did a work-around, but it wasn't their bug) Or is
there some other problem?

Oh, www.tranzeo.com is working for me, now.

And Merry Christmas to you, too!

Re: [WISPA] RIP

2008-12-22 Thread Sam Tetherow
If I knew it would fix it I might, but I have no desire to pay for
upgrades on otherwise working APs when no-one has said it would work
fine in 2.9 on my RB230s. 3.x right now is not an upgrade path I am
willing to take because it breaks my current provisioning scheme and I
have not had the time or good enough reason to rework my entire
provisioning system. As it stands right now I'll just static route it all.

Re: [WISPA] One ISP says RIAA must pay for piracy protection

2008-12-22 Thread jp
If ISPs were able to be compensated for the research and follow up for
RIAA requests, it would make the whole system completely financially
infeasible for RIAA. The reason it sort of works now is because it's
cheap and easy, despite being only partially effective, same reason spam
works. That's the reason it's not happening I think.

I'd take money from RIAA to certify that my company has researched who
was using that IP and relayed the warning to the end user paying for the
Internet service. I would not reveal customer information to the RIAA,
and wouldn't cancel service for the customer solely because the RIAA
asked me to.

Re: [WISPA] One ISP says RIAA must pay for piracy protection

2008-12-22 Thread Josh Luthman
Yes, they should open every box and use software that is only compatible
with Windows NT4 testing every media capable of holding more then 1KB
(1024bytes).

No equipment will be provided by RIAA, however a $99/mo inconvenience fee
may apply if a) the moon is in waxing gibbous b) your initials include A and
Z and c) you sit on hold for no less then three (3) hours when requesting
this.

Point being - this is simply ridiculous. It is not the ISPs job to monitor
the customer's actions, it is not the road's fault for the driver's car
accident and it is not FedEx's job to check every single package for
contents that another company doesn't like, especially without serious
compensation for the increased overhead.

I love this opening line as it shows at least one person isn't afraid to put
their foot down! "Jerry Scroggin, owner-operator of Bayou Internet and
Communications , wants the music and film industries
to know that he's not a cop and he doesn't work for free."

We could make the analogy that bootleg CDs could be hauled by FedEx.
Shall FedEx halt deliveries in this case?

[WISPA] Kernmantle Rope

2008-12-22 Thread Scott Vander Dussen
Looking for 1200' of kernmantle rope. I found a spool here (sorry for the long
URL, TinyURL doesn't work for this link) -

https://www.nettechdi.com/eserv/eclipse.ecl?PROCID=WEBDISP.WOEB.MAIN&ID~1=107&ID~2=864&ID~3=865&CLEV=5&PLEV=1&QLEV=1&PN=12764&ITEM.NO=8&PN.CT=21&TRACKNO=J2537830143&BANNERID=

Price seems reasonable at $680/1200' thought I'd ask if anyone has a better
source. Thanks!
