you could get a DC to DC converter that works off of 24 volts (or make your own)

You can use a parasitic thing from Packet Flux. Or CTM.

The biggest thing the CMM provides is GPS timing. (other than a Ethernet
switch & Power).

If you want to use a different GPS timing provider, then you don't have
to use a "CMM"... (e.g. www.packetflux.com)

First, I would recommend being the VoIP provider yourself and dumping
Vonage. Short of that, I would recommend that you use something like
VoIP-Jet or Broadvoice, where you can BYOD, and get rid of the sipura
devices that are hardwired to Vonage.

Okay, It prolly isn't so much a factor of how many hops, as it is the
co-mingling of traffic going out through the bottleneck point.

I recommend that your client place all SIP, IAX2, and related traffic at
the top of the firewall ruleset - If you don't, then anytime someone
(especially if it is upstream at the bottleneck) visits something like
youtube, your clients going to begin having problems.

You might also be NAT'ing NAT'd traffic - bad w/SIP.

You may be required to have the NAT'd traffic heading to/from the sipura
or other IP/VoIP device NAT'd from a public IP and then not NAT'd again,
because there are issues with SIP behind firewalls when you're not doing
1:1 NAT (A way around this is to put a bridge on the forward facing
firewall exposed to the public IP network - like the FreeSwitch contrib
for pfSense, arguably the best firewall out there, and free).

Contact me offlist for additional particulars.

Hope that helps :)

Kindest regards,

I have seen the same problem with the PacWireless dishes. We tried
them with PTP400 radios and UBNT Rockets. They will not allow the
radios to function full duplex. We went with the Gabriel QuickFire

issues resolved.

This looks good, but uses 7.5 volt power. I need something that uses
the 24 volt power that is in the box.

Re: [WISPA] Slightly different question - Single radio or multiple radios in the same box?

2010-08-21 Thread Chris Hudson
I have some Nstreme2 ptp's that are using MTI Dual Pol Panel antennas that work
great. But now I have a Pacwireless Dual Pol 2ft dish and when I am running
with 1 radio in half duplex it works great, and it doesn't matter what
polarization - V or H. As long as one pol is running at a time. And this is
when I have one pol at 5200 and the other at 5745, so opposite ends of the
spectrum. When I enable the nstreme2 the whole connection just struggles.

I have verified that the frequencies are clear and including the immediate
adjacent channels.

Any Ideas? Oh, I'm using RB433AH's with 2 R5H's on both ends. I'm thinking of
changing the RX radios on both sides to a non High power radios, just haven't
decided which one.

I love UBNT. I've been upgrading backhauls to RocketM's and CPE to BulletM's
and/or NanoM's. Customers keep mentioning the network seems faster & faster.
The word on the street is we're faster than cable & dsl! The only issue I've
had so far is that the legacy radios dont like UBNT AP's.

[WISPA] No connectivity at 3-5 user locations, seems strange

2010-08-21 Thread Ron Wallace
Anyone who can help,

We have 3-5 users that cannot access the internet via Canopy 9000 SMC's w/ 17
dB Yagi, ss600 surge,

When config'd to freq. & Color Code, same firmware version as AP - AP does not
"see" the radio, radio does not see tower AP. Go to 'tools' in SM, alignment
mode, and we have -60 to -70 dBm on all radios, spectrum analyzer shows a good
signal across the 924 MHz channel. Switch off the alignment mode and 'SA', 'go
back to 'status' and there is only the 107 to 108 RSSI.

One site I have changed out the entire installation, been good for four years,
the same result. Rural area, 1-5 miles separation between sites, happening on
two (2) different 9000 APC's.

Customers are unhappy, I am stumped. Does anyone know the answer to the
problem? A suggestion, anything?

Re: [WISPA] More BTOP/BIP

2010-08-21 Thread Chris Cooper
Round two awards are up to 70% grant without a waiver. RUS expects to
be paid back on the loan portion and structures the deals so that they
are made whole before anyone else.

Thanks,

Chris Cooper

I think it's all grants.

The funny thing is that the RUS BIP grants were basically only given
to existing RUS lendees. So they won't be asking Windstream et al
to repay these. Of course the repayment doesn't come from them -- it
comes from USF, another tax.

The BIP money mostly went to ILECs, it seems. Windstream cleaned up
again. I see one WISP there (Wave Wireless). And a bunch of
satellite stuff. The BTOP side was a little more varied.

I did that once with a bunch or tranzeos. Works good. of course, having a
switch up on a tower isnt practical. I'm sure there must be a registry entry
for the dhcp timeout on windoze somewhere?
