Re: [WISPA] no net but ping works

2010-08-25 Thread Jeromie Reeves
Have a client with the problem do a nslookup before a ping. It sounds
much like a dns or a arp issue as mentioned. Can you route each
Powerstation ? I like to bridge the AP (with dedicated ports behind
them) and WDS the clients (with their radios running internal routed
10.x subnets , no nat!). This has show to be the best balance between
speed and stability. Also check the powerstation arp tables as well as
the upstream router, before they issue the nslookup or ping, then
after. Also try disabling dns caching on the client radios.

Re: [WISPA] no net but ping works

2010-08-25 Thread Mark Dueck

I don't think it's a DNS because most clients that are complaining are
from one AP.  Today I got one that's from a diff AP that said their net
was intermittent.

I myself am browsing on the same network and never experience that
problem.  I have the same settings.

Mostly Tranzeo SL2's as clients, with 2 PowerStations as AP's.  The
rest of the AP's are all Tranzeo. All clients are routed internally,
but after the client radio everything is bridged.  I rebooted the
gateway to clear the arp cache, but clients are still experiencing the
same problem.

Could it cause a problem with the fact that the gateway is multiwan and
2 of it's wan's are on the same network as the clients, but different
subnet.  I know I need to VLAN, but had some issues with  VLAN not
connecting.

Anyone have ideas why this could happen?

Well my bug has been sleeping so far :) Have not noticed anything wrong,
but I am very glad to hear they may have finally fixed the RPS re-enable
problem that was a nice feature we had hoped to use to reduce cut-over time

One quick question since this is the right crowd... Does the FCC license
for 11Ghz gear need to be posted somewhere at the tower site? I'm guessing
it does but I'm not positive and I haven't received them in the mail yet.

Re: [WISPA] Reminder: California State Broadband Mapping Program filing due Aug 31

2010-08-25 Thread Kristian Hoffmann
Send an email to broadbandmapp...@cpuc.ca.gov and ask to be added to the
mailing list.

The CPUC sent notifications to the utilities (cable and telco)
primarily, but tried to scrape up a list of WISPs and other providers in
the state. They new it wouldn't be 100%, but since we're not regulated
there's really know way for them to know. We received the notification
for the first round (last August) by snail mail 3 weeks before the
deadline. Luckily it got pushed back a month or so.

I'd say it would be worth making an attempt to respond. If nothing
else, you'll be ready for the next one.

[WISPA] Reminder: California State Broadband Mapping Program filing due Aug 31

2010-08-25 Thread Kristian Hoffmann
Hi,

Just a reminder that the state's 2nd broadband mapping program filing is
due next Tuesday. The information regarding the request is located
here...

http://www.cpuc.ca.gov/PUC/Telco/Information+for+providing+service/BB
+Mapping.htm

It may seem like a lot to ask on top of the FCC form 477 filing, but it
should be well worth everyone's time. If you don't file, you'll be left
out of the state's coverage database which includes their forthcoming
public broadband provider lookup database.

As WISPs, we have two options for filing. You can create your own RF
coverage maps using your favorite GIS software. The required feature
attributes for your submission are outlined here...

ftp://ftp.cpuc.ca.gov/Telco/BB_Mapping/pdf/Record%20Format%20for%
20Wireless%20Providers.pdf

The second option is to provide a list of your tower/antennas with
location, bearing, height, beamwidth, etc. The CPUC's helpful GIS staff
will produce the coverage maps for you. The template for that format is
here...

ftp://ftp.cpuc.ca.gov/Telco/BB_Mapping/Excel/BB_Wireless_Antenna.xls

Also of note is that this request states that you must submit GIS data
using their template geodatabase in the FileGDB (proprietary ESRI)
format. I've confirmed with Tito (their head GIS guy) that the ESRI
shapefile format will work fine as long as the fields match the PDF
linked above.

This is new to everyone (including the CPUC), so they're being very
understanding and flexible for anyone showing a desire to comply with
the request. If anyone has questions about the request (technical or
otherwise), feel free to discuss on the California WISPA list or email
me directly.

Regards,

Re: [WISPA] Trango APEX v1.3.0 live

2010-08-25 Thread Steven McGehee

 Hey Scott,

My experience with their email can be hit and miss as well
unfortunately; I use their 'techsupp...@trangosys.com' address.
Normally, I get a response, but sometimes I don't. My most recent email
from last week has gone unanswered, which is rare for them.

As for the RFM upgrade, I did have the same problem, but, I realized
that the reason appears to be because I already had that version of RFM
installed. I went from v1.2.3 to v1.3.0, and even though there is an RFM
file in the v1.3.0 package, for me it was the same size/same version as
the v1.2.3. As I look again now on the FTP, the v1.3.0 files have been
removed and the directory renamed to say 'pending release.' But, before
that, there was a text file that showed what version of
FPGA/FW/OS/PIC/RFM that v1.3.0 takes things too, and the RFM was
un-changed from v1.2.3 -- so I think it's failing when you do
'bootimage' because you already have it upgraded.

I don't have these two units in production yet (within a week they
should be installed), and normally I just use the CLI so I can't comment
on the Speed stats under the Web interface.

I'm also not able to offer much on what this release does -- on the
phone he mentioned that it fixed a rare gateway issue related to the
ipconfig/ibm ip -- it wasn't the fact that you couldn't set an ibm
gateway ip, that was fixed in v1.2.3, but it was something else. That's
all I know :).

Thanks.

-Steven

Hey Steven,

I upgraded one of our apex links this morning and its been fine all

I have a few questions to compare with you though, I emailed Trango
tech support but I never heard anything back. Maybe I have the wrong
email, its like they never get them??

First, I could not upgrade the sys_rfm_v130.F915283E file. The
bootimage upgrade 4 command returned FAILED. Re-downloaded the file
from the ftp site and re-tftp'd it to the radio tried again and still
no love - on either radio. I proceeded without it and its been
working fine. I'd like to know if you had the same problem and if you
know what that system file is for. It looks like a big text file with
OIDs or something.

Second, after the upgrade, in the web interface under statistics I
think, it shows the modulation at the top as QPSK for both sides but
it isn't - a speed command or status modem command from the CLI
returns 256QAM both sides at 250Mb. The previous v123 firmware worked
properly I'm pretty sure I would have notice that before.

Lastly, since you were discussing the new firmware on the phone with
them do you happen to know any of the changes in this newer version?

Thanks
