Hello Ron,

I talked with the sales people in Vegas last year and at that time I
think there biggest deployment was in Sidney. They sound great but the
price was too high. If I remember right they were talking around 250k and
up.

[WISPA] Need good router

2005-10-31 Thread David Ellis

Hey guys,

I could use some advice on routers, I need to do NAT and static
out of the same router and I do not think Comp-USA stocks this kind
of stuff. Besides paying 1500 or so for a Cisco can anyone guide me
in a better and more cost efficient way?

I thought the list might be interested to know that yesterday we turned
up a 73 mile link to a new WISP starting up in Dalton, GA. This is our
first connection to another WISP and while the 73 mile 45Mbps link took
some planning and a good amount of leg work, it ended up quite well. Not
only was the WISP in question able to benefit from our lower bandwidth
and voice costs available in Atlanta, but we were able to get access to
the local LEC for savings on voice termination in the area.
Additionally, we now have the ability to sell wholesale routes in an
expanded coverage area to our existing CLEC customers. Our next step is
to help this WISP get going and introduce them to WISPA.

If any other WISPs are in the southeast, let's look at connecting. We
currently have plans to buildout into Tennessee and Alabama.

Has anyone contacted FEMA with any offerings of wireless help for the

about the likely event the FEMA / Red Cross set up "Tent Cities" and

If anyone knows if there are any plans with Tent Cities...they're

There is no one to serve internet to in New Orleans but FEMA and
the work crews and I am sure that the Feds have satellite set up.
New Orleans has been issued orders for COMPLETE evacuation. They
are moving all the folks out of the shelters to higher ground
(refugee camps) North of New Orleans City limits. It will be many
months before anyone will be allowed back into New Orleans. Water
is still pouring into town as we speak due to levee breaches and
is expected to have 9' of water downtown before it quits coming
across the levee. A soup bowl cant hold but so much soup.

Re: [WISPA] 6 foot 6ghz antenna rule

2005-08-08 Thread David Ellis
Hey Ron,

What would be the cost to setup the link you talked about in this note? Is
there more operators in our area to split the cost, could we find some local
business or others to buy a block Of bandwith? J ust some thoughts

I have some experience at 6, 11, 13, 18 & 23 GHz, more at 6,
11 &13. These were all carrier links never used a 6' dish
unless it was a short path, less than 8 mi., usually 6 or
less. WE built 40 dB fade margin into every path. tried to
keep the radiated signal beem as narrow as possible, larger
antennas, greater gain, they don't burn out. Downside is
stiffer towers, very expensive.

However, at 6 and 11 you can get 672 Mb/s and that's good. I
don't have the money right now or I would have a two hop
system to Southfield MI where a meg is around 100-125.

My point, the licensed spectrum is excellent, no
interference, and w/ enough fade margin it rocks.

Lonnie and Marlon - I support everything they say, nearly.
We need to use whatever we can get our hands on, that lifts
our advantage.

So keep it up guys.
