[WISPA] Wireless Video connection

2007-12-12 Thread Joel White

I am in need of a solution to take a camera who's output is either/or S-video
or Composite into an ethernet connection to then go into a wireless
transmission with another converter on the other end to take it back to
s-video or composite.
I also would like to have a a device to convert the video into a MP4 format so
as to need less bandwidth across the link. Please send any and all suggestions.

TIA

RE: [WISPA] Nstreme2 Link & Pacwireless

2007-07-31 Thread Joel White
Mac,

Can you expand on the "with two cards running Nstream
> along with connection tracking - - which you will miss if it ain't
> turned on.", and also expand on the sensitivity of the SR5?

For the sensitivity, are you referring to just the sensitivity with lightning,
or other problems with them staying connected?

Thanks for the input.

I talked to Bo yesterday. All is seemingly well. His basement is flooded, and
he had to get off the phone because the insurance man was coming. It sounded
like he had no major damage to his infrastructure.

RE: [WISPA] Thoughts on 900MHz mesh networks

2007-09-10 Thread Joel White
Alan,

There is a second manufacture of 900 Mini-Pci cards which is Zcomax. The two
(ubnt and Zcomax don't talk because of different center frequencies. Zcomax is
what Tranzeo is using in there 900 products, so this may be a good way to go,
with the ability to have pre-manufactured client radios. What I have found
with any Atheros card running 5Mhz channels, is that if you scan from another,
you will see the first card transmitting on a channel about 20mhz away. This
transmit is about 20dB less than the primary, but still prevalently there. I
think you could see some issues because of this, and I wonder what frequency
that ends up being when the 900 card is a re-badge of 2.4. To explain this
better, channel 6 on 2.4 is 906 on the ubiquity cards I believe. If I then
scan and see a signature at 2457, what frequency is that on the 900
conversion? It is probably in the high 800 range by my estimate. There are
definitely some issues there.

Also, I have seen better connections with Motorola 900 than with the put
togethers. I do think your idea is something worth while, and I've thought
about something similar myself. I am also familiar with the Muni-market, and
the downfalls, and the good ideas of it. If you remember me, you know I worked
for one of them. In fact, I worked under you I believe!!

Good to see you back.

Metricom was one of the ones that we were uninstalling in Tempe. i.e. out of
business.

I don't know if that was technical issues or management or a combo of both.

I had more contact with Jack than I desired, but not much with Jay. The two
times Jay was in town, I was working on a couple $100,000 dollar deal that MP
later threw away, and the second time I was on a trip that brought in an
extra 5000 dial-up customers the first year and was slated to go up to 20,000
in a year, that MP also threw away.

Paul talked to Jay a lot, and had a very similar impression to the ice to the
Eskimo one.

Brad,

Do I know you? The name sounds way to familiar.

Marlon and all,

I just wanted to pass on the below E-mail that we received regarding the
Nighthawk NH100, and special limited time pricing. This may be a good time for
you to spend less on Margaritas and a little on the remote reboot;0

I don't often get to add much value to this list, but hopefully I can this time.

Best Regards,

Joel

It's not ip based (which is good when your system is down :-). This is pager
based.

When we get some extra funds this is the kind of gear we'll put in.

Re: [WISPA] Really Simple Mikrotik shaping?

2009-01-19 Thread Joel White
We currently use Radius to apply up and down BW throttling at the MT AP,
without MT clients. Some are some are not, but works the same. Also as
mentioned through the Access List you can set the throttling on the wireless
link rather than through a queue.

Joel

You can use Radius and MAC authencation to deliver up and down bw at the
AP/CPE ... Need to have a MT client though.

Or you could look at the advantages of staying on location, supporting WISPA
that went out of their way to get a location that would support the conference
yet be affordable to the 500 mile radius that a majority of the WISPS are in.
Or just accept that no matter what you do you can never satisfy everyone.
Remember that any conference needs volume to get a reduced rate. Stay elsewhere
and the numbers go down. Jmo.

Well that's pretty screwy if that's the case...not familiar with UBNT but
something seems foo there!

The Tranzeo TR5a was the last product we used from Tranzeo that actually
worked okay...the major thing I don't like about them through is the client
didn't automatically sweep if you needed to do an emergency frequency change
on the base.
