[WISPA] Ping monitoring?

I can't get smokeping to send a ping say every second and only one each time. 
Any alternatives or suggestions?

Advanced ping looks like a winner. Up/down monitoring and bandwidth monitoring 
only goes so far to know whats going on. Smokeping doesn't scale really well

As an aside on PRTG...  I was wondering if anyone knows of a VoIP dialer that 
you could use for alerts.
I was looking at some PowerShell scripts before, but haven't really gotten 
around to getting it up and running.
