We ran a PowerRouter for the MikroTik User Manager. The SATA SSD proved
unreliable, not sure if it was a problem with the SATA interface, the SSD or
what, but it ate our database a couple times (not cool). We ran the database of
the onboard flash for a while before moving the ROS within a proper VMWare
cluster.

Unless you're storing a DB, cache, or lots of logs, you probably don't need the
SATA drive.

[WISPA] PoweRouter 2200 thoughts and alternatives...

2012-04-13 Thread Mark Theis
PoweRouter 2200...

We are looking to replace our 7 year old head-end router with a PoweRouter
2200. I see that they have the option for the 3.5" SATA drive. Has anyone
used this, and do I need to use this option? Our current router has the entire
OS and configs on a 128mb IDE Ram Disk. I can't really tell from the specs of
the device if we need a drive or not.

We are selecting this model because we require the redundant power, fiber
option, and we (of course) want to stay with Mikrotik.

Any suggestions or input is appreciated. If you know of a better solution that
addresses our needs, I would love to hear about it.

Here are the specs as stated on a site that distributes it.

Features of the PoweRouter 2200 Series

2U Rack Mountable
DUAL Hot-Swap 400 Watt Power Supplies
UP TO 14 Gigabit Ethernet Ports!
UP TO 8 2.4 Gig Intel Xeon Cores
Custom Designed System Board and Layout
Industrial Board Design
All Ethernet / Serial Connections are Front Mounted for Easy Access
Space for 3.5 Inch SATA Drive on the Front! (No Case Access Required)
1 Gig DDR ECC Registered RAM (8 Slots Total)
Compact Flash Card
Level 4 Mikrotik License Installed (Upgradeable)
4 Port Copper or SFP Upgrade Option
Dual 10 GB Interface Options
